I see that you're using version 1.42f. We're at version 1.44
now. I don't know if the leak is present in version 1.42f.

I just recieved 38 messages, and it took about 5 minutes to import
them all. The hard disk is still chugging!
This is after upgrading to Windows Millennium RC0 - perhaps the hard
drive needs a defrag after installing all those files.
(Still using 1.41 cos I couldn't see any reason to upgrade)

yeah, i noticed ; just downloaded 1.44 and will install it ...

btw : the leak might be in 1.42f too ; after a couple of sends/receives
memory is now at 5.5 (was 4) physical and 11 (was 10) virtual ... !?

Re: TB! Memory Leak?

2000-06-11 Thread Deryk Lister

Regarding my post about chugging in WinME... it was nothing to do with
TB! In fact, I booted up the system without launching it and as soon
as I moved the mouse pointer the hard disk started chugging - and
continued to do so even after a 10 minute walk to the shop!

A reformat did the disk good, freed up several gigabytes, and got me
to install TB 1.44 at last :p
About installing 1.44 - what a nightmare! I had backed up the MAIL
directory from 1.41, and the only way to get all the messages back was
by installing 1.41 first and then upgrading :) Installing 1.44 alone
left me with blank inboxes, and that ctrl-shift-alt-wotsit didn't work
:)

Different message base formats - the upgrade from 1.41 (old format) to
1.44 performs the reformat. It's like an automagic import wizard run,
not a nightmare - if you know it ;-).

Downloaded last night from exactly that site, but couldn't make it

Well, one reason to upgrade would be that 1.42 and later use new
format of message base which is faster. Also processing attachments is
faster.

It also has a nice new feature, "purge and compress all folders".
Speaking of which, it uses up 100% of memory and does not release any
after the purge&compress is finished. (I just installed MemTurbo and
kind of monitor everything I do .)

Oh yeah, small disadvantage ;). But not for me - I don't run my
TB/Windows 24h a day. I guess 1.42f doesn't have this memory leak,
does it? 1.42f is still at my site:

so if you need it you can get it there.
