Yep it certainly looks more like a printer issue with TB! and I searched my records and did not come back with your printer specifically. The HP printers I've had a lot of problems with were 720s and 820s and the odd 600 range but not yours. The 'box' issue is a font problem somewhere (I think). Have you tried copy and pasting text from TB! into Notepad and prints OK? Probably, as it looks like you've tried everything, so I concur it's probably a TB! issue after all. Print coding is not an easy issue at the best of times I can tell you due to driver differences :) I really don't know what the developers of TB! use in this field, as well as HTML stuff. Maybe they try to roll they own a little too much, as there's plenty of neat add-ins for Delphi out there. > I reject out of hand your suggestion, that I buy a better >> printer, as merely suggesting that I throw more money at the problem. It was an out of hand remark anyway :) Still, if you're ever out looking for a new printer I always avoid HP gear - I've had to work with them too much as it is and I don't like them :) People's mileage varies I'm sure but I've gone well passed the end of the road with HP stuff. Re: TheBat! (and only TheBat!) is printing in non-readable characters
Per your suggestion, I tried the Windows driver, and I tried loading the latest HP driver. (I even tried upgrading TheBat! to version 1.60.) I reject out of hand your suggestion, that I buy a better printer, as merely suggesting that I throw more money at the problem. After all, the might have other uses. I also disagree with your suggestion that this is an HP problem rather than a TheBat! problem. Other programs are able to print with the HP 694C, therefore it is possible for TheBat!'s developer to write code to enable TheBat! to print with the HP 694C. It is only a matter of TheBat!'s developers recognizing whose problem the problem is, stepping up to the problem squarely, and solving the problem. I emailed the following bug report to RITLABS <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on 23 March 2002. ++ Begin Bug Report ++ I downloaded and installed The Bat! Version 1.60. The printing problem I had with Version 1.53d (see below) is still a printing problem. Only the non-readable characters have changed. Now all non-readable characters are the same empty rectangle character. Incidentally, "all my other programs" that print normally on My HP 694C printer include NotePad, WordPad, Word, Quicken, Opera, and Eudora. Re: TheBat! (and only TheBat!) is printing in non-readable characters
Dierk, I use a whole host of reporting engines in my development work to get around the odd HP drivers. Some work and some don't, however the one thing that links them all is the odd range of HP drivers for some reason. It's not all HP printers (drivers) but the two mentioned here (odd 800 and 600 range)have major problems with many a report engines (print engines). Some say 800 range are OK but one, or two in that range don't work well and it's due to the printer driver. From what I've been told, the HP drivers do something a little different than most drivers. The best solution I've found is using a different driver for the printer and bang it works. The end result is that the developers of The Bat, me and untold other developers have wasted a lot of time with HP and the solution is always the same: get a better printer :) Not sure about Kyocera, however I've only had one other printer brand play up from a customer and I can't recall if it was a Kyocera, or not. Might have been a Cannon. It's all in the 'driver', so they say :) If a client rings me with a printing problem I can be sure the next words they say will include HP LOL. The fellow that's having a problem here wants to simply try a different driver and at least try the Windows Standard Deskjet 500 driver, as it usually works OK. Bit limited on a fancy colour printer for sure. HP 720/820 - Problems. HP LaserJet 6P - Better using PCL driver. Hmm, that's quite funny, the HP printers haven't had problems stemming from them. And I am using HP since its 300 series way back under DOS. The 800 and 900 series are to my knowledge identical except for design and some added hardware features. The driver is the same unified one with the addition of the automatic duplexing.
