If you've reinstalled O6.02 over your old installation then I doubt if
you've replaced the original bookmarks file. You will need to import
it back into O. The file to import is Opera6.adr

If you've done an uninstall and then a fresh install, then you've
lost it I guess :-(

Yes. I found version 6 to be kind of flakey, in that it
crashes on some site loads, and won't load the number of
sites it used to without problems. I dl'ed 6.02 in hopes
of fixing this, but no luck. In the middle of this I
migrated from an NT4 machine to a Win3kPro machine, but
that had no positive effect either.

I was running TB 1.53 when this started, upgraded to 1.60h
after the migration. I think I'll give 1.60m a miss,
though I did put it on my husband's machine in trying to
fix a different glitch there. He's not a heavy user, so I
don't expect him to have problems; he's also not using
Opera.

FWIW, I don't think it's TB causing the Opera problem, but
I suppose anything's possible.

Had a strange experience a few days ago when I was surfing with Opera
and I checked my mail in TB! at the same time

I went back to Opera and my skin had disappeared (on Opera, not my own
- LOL) and then a few minutes later I went to access my bookmarks and
they were all gone. They were still in the Opera folder but not
recognized.

Anyway, I downloaded a new copy of 6.02 and reinstalled and then found
my old bookmarks and installed them. All has been fine since. As it
turned out, I found a nice new skin too ... minimalist, or something.
Very small icons and stylish looking.

It's been about 18 hours since my last sudden reboot, so am hoping
that my system has cured itself! Weird.

With best wishes,

Dave

I've had GDI problems in Win2k and the application would crash, not
Win2k. I don't have any solutions except trying to run the system with
nothing else running except the bare minimum and see if that makes a
difference. It may turn out that the problem is something you didn't

Uho!

You may very well be in for a reinstall or you could try installing
over your current system.

I doubt very much that TB! is the problem there though. To eliminate
the GDI problem you can use the fixed width viewer and see how things
go.

You bet :-)
But thank god it's not worst case with The Bat! at the moment, as at least
global application garbage collection works when terminating it normally.
So the leak is only persistent when TB! runs, which at least avoids the
system reboot :-)

For now - using RTV since the leak was filled - I can't find any

OTOH, I don't have such elaborate apps to check it as you, only

And Win2k users using the RTV.

And once again:

There seem to have been a few problems with certain set ups on certain
systems, mostly S/MIME related, that have been addressed by quick
hot-fixes - the alphabetised 1.60 versions.

While "m" seems to have gotten rid of all those buglets, it seems to
have introduced this resource leak. although I haven't seen it on my
computer, yet. And all reports that I have seen seem to be from XP
users.

Graphic Device Interface resources are things like window handles,
brushes, fonts and pens. Programs allocate and release these from the
Windows system as they go. A leak is when resources are not released
correctly.

> and does 1.60m have this?

Specifically, the Rich Text View (RTV) in 1.60m suffers from a
resource leak. The version is perfectly stable when using the PTV or
when using the RTV for short periods (and exiting TB).

What *is* the best, most stable, bug free version? I have not had any
problems with 1.60m yet.

What is a GDI leak and does 1.60m have this? It's so hard to know
which version to stay with, they are changing so fast. I have been a
registered TheBat! user for almost two years now. I know we are
heading towards v2.xx but things have been moving pretty fast the last
few weeks. It is just a little confusing. Thanks for all advice and
feedback.
