Looking at your original message again, it might be helpful to clarify
what you are saying, before looking at the options.

When I first read your message, I assumed that TB was closing itself
down when you first stated the computer. However, you say that this
does not happen when you first start the computer in the morning.
From this I guess you mean that TB runs fine the first time that you
run it when you start the computer in the morning, but then you close
TB down and start it again several times during the day. Is this
correct?

If it is, then I think that the problem could be that TB is not
shutting down properly, and that when you try to restart it, you get
the message because the previous instance of it is still running.

One thing that you could do, after you think that TB has closed down,
is to have a look in the Task Manager to see if it is still
running. You can run the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and
then picking Task Manager from the options. Have a look on the
Applications tab, and you will see all the applications that are
currently running. Is TB one of them? What else is running?

This is not an answer, but an attempt to get some more background to
what is happening. Other people on the list will find the answer once
they have enough information!

One other tidbit regarding the Task Manager: I kept it open while
sending a message to see if something didn't close after the msg
was sent. Something called Connection Centre opened up, then
closed when the message is sent, but nothing hangs on as obviously
stuck and running when it shouldn't. I'm about to check whether
TB will stay open or not if I reboot it following this little
episode (but of course I can't do that before sending this).

Re: Weird TB! crash problem

2003-06-12 Thread Anna
I hope doing it this way keeps this in the proper thread. :0

Okay. With Task Manager on, I shut down TB. TB
disappeared. I double-clicked the desktop shortcut. TB loaded and
showed twice in TM: Once with the TB logo, the second one with a
rectangular icon with a blue strip across the top with a few
white dots on the right side. I clicked Processes for both, and
each one said PID 520, with everything else (CPU use, I guess) at
0.

A few seconds later, both TB processes (?) shut down and
disappeared.

TB is now up, but the only icon in Task Manager is the white
rectangular one.

I have NO idea whether this will be helpful, but here it is.

Thanks,
Anna

A rectangular one.

A I have NO idea whether this will be helpful, but here it is.

Right click on that last TB! process and select 'end process'. Select
'yes' on the confirmation dialog to end the process.

Now restart TB! from the desktop and see what happens.

A crash only with the desktop shortcut and it's not limited to that.

A Thanks for trying. Any other ideas will be gratefully accepted.

What other applications do you have running on your system?

Would you try starting The Bat! with no other application running? I
mean here, no antivirus software, no firewall, no other shell
applications or background applications.

Application interactions are know to cause bizarre things.

Since you're running Win2K you can look at the event viewer and see just what the
error may be. That should give you some more information on why it keeps crashing on
you and sometime (but not always) it will give you a solution.

If you want to post the event log I'll look at it and see if I can see anything that
may be happening.

   Hi, everyone,

I'm told that I fouled up my initial post by not getting it to
the right spot, so I'll try again. Nothing like being an
ignorant newbie, except being a stupid ignorant newbie!

I installed TB! and got it up and going over the weekend (June
7-8) with aid by Jeanny House, yet of this list. Then suddenly, for no reason that
 I
can see or find in FAQs or archives, it's started closing
   itself.

I boot it up, regardless of how long it's been since the last
boot-up, and get a message: Tasks are still active. Would you
like to exit when they are finished? Regardless of whether I

The *only* time this doesn't happen is on initial computer

I'm on W2K Pro. I have it set to download my webmail from
Fastmail.fm via IMAP (which I don't understand, either, but
never mind that) and send mail through my ISP. I don't have anything fancy going
 on, no macros
or anything (I can only handle those in Word). The Task Manager
doesn't have anything interesting to say about it; when the app
shuts itself down, the T.M. says it's shut down, so I don't
know what tasks the silly thing thinks it's running.

I assume that there's a setting or something somewhere that's
wrong, but I've no idea what it might be and haven't been able
to find any hints. I need an email client that's fast,
flexible, and *reliable*, and at present, TB! isn't performing.
   Can anyone help?

   TIA,

Do you have a TB shortcut in the Startup group?

Where is the shortcut you use to start TB at other times?

A I assume that there's a setting

No such setting in TB...

A or something somewhere that's wrong,

Here's my guess.

You have TB configured to collect mail at startup in account
details.

The Startup group shortcut is good and works fine.

The other shortcut you have erroneously includes a /EXIT command
line parameter. The collect mail at startup task kicks in before
the /EXIT is obeyed and stalls the requested exit with the Tasks
are active message you see.

That's all I can think of. Edit the shortcut.
