Re[2]: AVG anti-spam update and restarting TB
Thanks for your help, everyone. I'll just restart TB when I want to be sure that the plug in is using the latest virus database that I have downloaded. Hello Annette and Paul, I don't see this header in either mail I received or sent. Do you have the paid version of AVG 6? PC the 6.0.690 is the AVG program version, 690, not the latest database PC version. So the plugin has to do with the version of AVG, not the latest PC database. I must disagree. On my system currently, AVG shows 6.0.693 which corresponds with virus database 454. Every time you download a new virus database, the last three numbers of your AVG version will change. -- Best regards, Lee Using The Bat! v2.10.03 on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4 Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello Paul, Tuesday, May 25, 2004, 11:54:59 AM, you wrote: G Check the version number under options-preferences-anti virus PC mine says 6.0.690 G There must be 2 versions then. One for version 6 and one for version G 7 PC I think you are right!I keep my AVG updated daily ( check daily..). I believe there are two versions. The free (version 6) version has not been updated for quite a while. The last three numbers in the version number refer to the virus definition file version loaded. Every time you download a new virus definition file, you'll see that number change (but not the 6.0. portion). You'll also see that this number does not change if you don't restart TB. Which brings me back to the original question in this thread: Is it necessary to restart TB to be sure that the plug in is utilizing the latest virus definition file? How can I know that it is up to date? If the plug in architecture requires restarting TB, wouldn't you call that a bug (design flaw)? (Of course it could be only a problem in Grisoft's implementation...) -- Best regards, Lee Using The Bat! v2.10.03 on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4 Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello Roelof, Thanks for the responses, Roelof and Raymund. What it does RO sometimes is telling me the computer has to be rebooted. My main concern is that the version number for the AVG plug in does not get updated when I install a new virus definition file (the main AVG application does show a new version number). I don't know if the AVG plug in is actually updated (without restarting TB). I also don't know if this is an AVG plug in issue (could be just a bug in updating version number? or not updating version at all?) or a more general TB plug in architecture issue. -- Best regards, Lee Using The Bat! v2.10.03 on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4 Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
