JA Close down TB and rename the .tbi file of the offending folder.
JA This should recreate the index, and hopefully your messages will
JA come back to life.

I tried that earlier (saving a copy of the original file, too) but it
did not seem to help.

Thanks,

I tried this, but only the 'new' messages appear to be in the folder.

Tried that, but did not find any errant messages.

ML The re-indexing trick as Januk suggested is quick and effective, but
ML please be reminded it has a couple of side effects:

I appreciate that there might be some things that will happen, but at
this point, I'd just like to get the messages back.

Thanks much,

Says "no lost folders found". Sounds right - the folder is not lost,
it is big enough to have many msgs, and it is a file on the disk, in
the right place. Not lost, but only showing one msg (now two :-). Any
other ideas?

It would seem that all the msgs were marked as deleted. I can see them
by viewing the file directly, but they don't show up in TB. Is there
an UNDELETE command to restore deleted msgs in a folder? That might
fix it, but I'd have to see what's really there to make sure.

Thanks,

ML So the folder isn't missing, but messages in it are, right?

Yes.

ML My first instinct is that you unintentionally "set up" a display
ML filter. Do you know that you may click on any field of a message
ML in the message list pane while holding down the Alt key, and
ML create an instant display filter?

ML E.g., in your TBUDL folder (if you have one), find a message by
ML yourself, and click on your own name while holding down the Alt key,
ML then TB would show only messages from you. This is one of my
ML favorite feature about TB.

ML To undo it, just hit ESC or "Ctrl =".

Hey - that's nice! Just tried it. But that does not seem to be the
problem in that folder. Even tried a restart of TB, and it still has
only a few msgs. I can see much more looking at the file directly with
an editor. They're there, just not showing up in TB.

Thanks for the help,

Re[2]: Missing Folder

1999-12-21 Thread Thomas Fernandez

Hi Keith,

on Wednesday, December 22, 1999, 12:36:18 AM GMT+0800, Keith Russell wrote:

KR Thanks to everyone for your responses. My Pilot folder does not
KR exist--at least under that name--in my TheBat! directory. Is it
KR possible that it could have somehow been renamed?

I don't think so. I'd rather think they have been "somehow" deleted.

Does your Windows "Find File" find anything? Did you check the
"Recycled" directory?

KR It has been suggested that if a Pilot directory exists, I just create
KR a new one from within The Bat! and the messages will automatically be
KR found and imported. How is this possible?

Doesn't make sense to me. If the directory doesn't exist on the HD,
how can TB find the messages?

I did, however, noticed that I suddenly have files called
"foldername." (for example: tbudl. - no file extension) in my My
Documents directory. They contain all messages, with headers, that
were in a folder on 6 December, for some reason. They are in plain
text. I don't know how they ended up there, but maybe you want to take
a look for a file "Pilot." on your PC (if that was the name of the
folder).

KR Two questions naturally arise:

KR 1. What could have happened to cause a single folder to disappear like
KR this?

No idea. Never happened to me.

KR 2. Where are all the messages from my Pilot mailing list going? The
KR filter says to send them to the Pilot folder, and they're not showing
KR up in the Inbox

Good question. Try to send yourself a message that would quilify for
that filter, and then "search" for it.

I would also recommend to either disable this filter or create a
folder Pilot (or Pilot2) now, in order for you to not lose any more
messages. ;-)
