MDP On 16 November 2001 at 18:11:54 [GMT-0500] (which was 23:11 where I
MDP live) Rick Reumann wrote to BatList and made these points:

Create a quick template which contains only the macro %Clear. Give it
a short handle name like 'cl'. Whenever you create a new message and
wish not to use the template, just type 'cl' and then
 ctrlbackspace.

RR ... It works when I select the template from the toolbar but not
RR when I try to do the hitting ctrl and backspace thing.

RR What am I doing wrong?

MDP You, nothing ... well, everything, but through no fault of your own.
MDP Allie gave the wrong keystroke - it should have been Ctrl-Space

Thanks, appreciate the prompt feedback. I'm really liking this program
so far. I'm curious how many users have you gotten that were once
Pegasus users? Are you familiar with Pegasus and any of your thoughts?

The reason I switched over to the Bat is do to the way Pegasus handles
html links. I know it seems like a silly reason to switch, but it
really was annoying since most of the people I deal with use Outlook
Express. Dealing with long html links in Pegasus was becoming a real
problem that they didn't seem willing to address.

Anyway, glad you guys are there to help with the Bat. I do think an
option to Not use template would be a nice feature, but hey you
can't please everyone:)

PP *hmmm* ... If you don't want to use templates at any time, but only
PP for specified contacts you can delete the templates in account
PP properties. To be absolutely sure you can insert the already known
PP '%CLEAR' macro there.
PP If you save the default templates already there into QuickTemplates
PP before deleting them you can also access them manually if needed.

PP account-new-template and optimizing/shrinking account-reply-template
PP and account-forward-template as the best compromise? You don't need to
PP specify templates on folder level or address book entry level, so
PP defaults are token, but a minimum of 'template' even OE or Pegasus has
PP build in, otherwise you would have to manually copy, paste and edit
PP replied or forwarded text. TB! simply makes it more transparent to the
PP user :-)

Oh I agree, and actually I love the template feature of The Bat. It's
not a super big deal, but sometimes I might want start a new message
without my conventional

Sometimes I want this sometimes I don't.. I realize when I don't I'll
just stick to using a quick template. The templates are definately a
great feature. I don't want to totally delete the new message template
as someone suggested as many times I want it. Actually the more I use
it the more I think it's cool anyway:) I'm just used to being lazy and
typing my quick email without an intro or close. The template for new
messages is fine and I'll stick to it anyway. Thanks for the feedback.

 account-new-template and optimizing/shrinking account-reply-template
and account-forward-template as the best compromise?

As a guide, my three really simple templates are:

 [new]

On %ODATE at %OTIME %TOFNAME wrote:

%QUOTES

%CURSOR [reply]

%CURSOR

BEGIN FORWARDED MESSAGE

From:%OTONAME
Date:%ODATE at %OTIME
Subject: %OSUBJ

%TEXT

-END FORWARDED MESSAGE- [forward]

(Don't paste or type the quotes ... the 'new' template is blank,
for example)

The 'reply' one is particularly useful, as it puts

'On 17 November 2001 at 6.00pm Fred wrote'

at the start then quotes the text of the original message and puts the
cursor there ready for typing the response. This always provokes wow,
how did you do that? did you type these in? from Outlook [Express]
users ;)

[I also prefer to use 'None' as the sender information for quotes in
replies, which means that an angled bracket only precedes each quoted
line; anything else results in strange text like Cac preceding each
quoted line ...!]
