JA Unfortunately, it isn't easy within TB. There are a couple of
JA options, none are ideal.

5. (much easier) show the To and From columns in the message list use
Quick Search to find an 'abc' sender message. Alt-Click the sender
to filter the message list to show only these messages. Now Quick
Search for 'xyz' recipient messages. Alt-Click the recipient.
Voila! a list of the messages you wanted.

If the messages are all in the same folder, that is.

Hi Marck,

Historians believe that Monday, November 19, 2001 at 09:39 GMT +
was when, Marck D Pearlstone [MP] typed the following:

MP 5. (much easier) show the To and From columns in the message list use
MPQuick Search to find an 'abc' sender message. Alt-Click the sender
MPto filter the message list to show only these messages. Now Quick
MPSearch for 'xyz' recipient messages. Alt-Click the recipient.
MPVoila! a list of the messages you wanted.

That's good, I use it all the time, yet I forgot about it. It even
works if you move across folders. I suppose one of us should mention
that to get back your full list, just hit the ESC key.

That said, it would be nice to be able to do more complicated searches
with the Find utility.

Yes, or Ctrl+= (which is important to know if you're using a folder
view rather than the main window since Esc will close the folder view
window).

JA That said, it would be nice to be able to do more complicated

It would.

JA Unfortunately, it isn't easy within TB.

I maintain the wish to be able to use simple formal logic in the
search string. Much like the filter strings, which can be connected by
and and or, even not very elegantly.

Can this be done? If yes how must I specify the field names in the

Thank you for your answer.

Unfortunately, it isn't easy within TB. There are a couple of
options, none are ideal.

1. Create a filter with the desired criteria. Have it *copy* the
found messages to a temporary folder. This solution is tedious,
but it works. Also, be careful that you don't *move* your messages
with the filter. That could lead to the loss of mail.

2. Create a regular expression to do the search. If you're
comfortable with regular expressions, it isn't a bad option.
However, for most searches it isn't worth the effort.

3. Do a search on one field, copy the search results to a temp folder
then do another search on the second field, but this time search
the contents of the temp folder. This one is pretty good, but
still not as convenient as it should be.

4. Use an external program. People have reported that they really
like a program called Mailbag Assistant for their archiving needs.
I personally haven't used it, but I have yet to hear a negative
comment about this program. The drawback of this solution is
that the program isn't freeware. However, it does allow you to
migrate between many different e-mail programs with ease (at least,
that's what the marketing department says.)

Yes, this is a phenomenal package - some people have suggested that
The Bat! should have statistics, rather like Eudora does, but this
goes way beyond what is done there, And it provides selective archive
and restore, export to and import from lots of formats, extraction of
any or all fields, scripting, regular expression and soundalike
searches, ...

For someone who ran a busy campaign and got hundreds of emails a day
it was vital.

Alastair
