Version 1.46 upgrade problem

2000-09-17 Thread John Phillips

Hi fellow Bat! fans,

Downloaded (twice) the 1.46 version installed correctly (I
think?). I installed from the URL provided in the announcement re
  1.46 http://www.ritlabs.com/ftp/pub/the_bat/the_bat.exe

Bat started automatically - the Help / About screen shows as version
1.45. When installing also states installing 1.45.

What is the "secret"? Do I need a Masonic hand shake, or similar?

Hmm. I got it from ftp://ftp.ritlabs.com/pub/the-bat/the-bat.exe. Try
that, downloading directly by FTP instead of HTTP.

JP TB does _NOT_ follow the structure Address-Folder-Account, but in
JP reverse order. First the Account-template, if that exists then it
JP looks if a folder template exists and if _that_ exists, it will look
JP for a address template.

Interesting finding which I cannot confirm since I have never deleted
templates at any level. :-) I'll take note of that in case someone else
comes up with a problem.

What I said about the order of priority in which the templates are
*used* (not the order in which TB! checks for templates) still stands.
If all levels of templates are present, then the address book template
will be used over the folder and default templates.

JP So I had deleted the folder template, and TB! didn't bother to look at
JP the address template any more. Pretty annoying if you ask me, but I
JP figured it out and the templates are working now. (finally).

You know, this sounds like a bug to me.

Check your system and make sure you do not have 2 TBs installed.
  -OR-
Check the attributes of the exe file make sure it is not read only.
Thus preventing the 1.46 exe from replacing it.

MDP Erm ... that's ftp://ftp.ritlabs.com/pub/the_bat/the_bat.exe

That did it. Could be a problem with the URL - also downloaded from
the link on the web page directly - this seemed also to only have
1.45.
