vcard problem
Hi, It seems that the photo field of vcard created with TB can only be viewed by TB. I can read vcard created by TB on my Palm Desktop Soft (on PC, not on the handled), but not the photo field ! Hello Joseph, On Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at 11:47:50 PM you wrote (at least in part): JN The macro for first name (%TOFNAME) in the template interprets all of JN that to read, in the message editor: Mr. '%ToFName' ain't the macro for 'First Name' of recipient, but for 'first name' in recipient field. Only '%ABToFirstName' can figure out, what the _FIRST_ name of a person is, as this name is written (hopefully) into a field named 'first name'. So if you write a mail to somebody in your AB and in 'To:' there is Doe, John [EMAIL PROTECTED] '%ABToFirstName' can extract 'John' as 'First Name' from AB, while '%ToFName' takes the very first name it sees. There's no chance for '%ToFName' to identify _the one_ string within all given, which represents the first name. JN Any ideas how to fix? vCard interpretation
I occasionally export my Lotus Organizer contacts, or those with email addresses, in vCard format in order to import the same data into TB! I have a dedicated AB in TB! to contain the information, which is sorted by last name. Because of the use of the Lotus contact database for mail merges, the prefix is one of the fields completed, e.g., Mr., Ms., etc. The import appears to go perfectly; when one opens any of the imported records in TB!, all of the fields are completed appropriately. (Except that I would like to be able to change the Display As field on a global basis.) The problem is that, despite the appearance of the right information in each of the TB! record fields, the macros are not reading the data correctly. For example, if I have a record for myself, and it lists my title as Mr., my first name as Joseph, and my last name as N., in the record (both Lotus and TB!), the TB! address book will list me with the other N's, displayed as Mr. Joseph N. When I click from within the message editor and search for my name, it dutifully comes up, I click the single arrow to transfer it to the TO: field, and what appears on the line is, unfortunately but acceptably, 'Mr. Joseph N.' [EMAIL PROTECTED] So far so good. The macro for first name (%TOFNAME) in the template interprets all of that to read, in the message editor: Mr. To make it even more mysterious, I have various contact groups which are displayed as Last name, First name and the TO: field will show 'Last name, First name [EMAIL PROTECTED] but the macro picks up the correct first name and reads, in the message editor: First name What's going on? vCard exchange -TB to Palm Desktop (was:Syncing with Palm address book)
Hey TBers, This is kind of long, sorry... Saturday, June 16, 2001, 2:53:37 PM, you wrote: SS I have tried to export TB!'s AB as vCard with a pretty old SS version. I filled in all fields in both apps (TB v1.35, and Palm Desktop 4.0.1). Then exported to vCard from each. Palm seemed to be able to better selectively export (in TB the export did everything in the address book instead of just what was selected - does anyone know if you can only export part of a TB address book?). I exported the one address from Palm Desktop (from previous work with Palm Desktop, I know you can export selected or all in a Category, or all). Here is what it looked like: BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:LN;FN FN:FN LN TITLE:Title ORG:Company ADR:;;Street;City;State;Zip;Country NOTE:Note TEL;WORK:Work TEL;HOME:Home TEL;FAX:Fax TEL:Other EMAIL:E-Mail X-Palm-Custom1:Custom 1 X-Palm-Custom2:Custom 2 X-Palm-Custom3:Custom 3 X-Palm-Custom4:Custom 4 END:VCARD Here is what the export from TB Address book looked like (after I ripped out all but the one address...): BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:Last name;First name;Middle name;Mr;Jr FN:Display name as UID:Nickname (Handle) EMAIL;PREF;INTERNET:E-Mail address(es) BDAY:20010616 ORG:Company Name;Department TITLE:Job title TEL;WORK;VOICE:Phone TEL;HOME;VOICE:Voice TEL;CELL;VOICE:Car / Cellular TEL;PAGER:Pager TEL;WORK;FAX:Fax TEL;HOME;FAX:Fax ADR;WORK:;Office;Street address;City;State / Province;ZIP / Postal code;Country LABEL;WORK;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Office=0D=0AStreet address=0D=0AC= ity=0D=0AState / ProvinceZIP / Postal code=0D=0ACountry ADR;HOME:;;Street address;City;State / Province;ZIP / Postal code;Country LABEL;HOME;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Street address=0D=0ACity=0D=0ASta= te / ProvinceZIP / Postal code=0D=0ACountry URL:Personal Web Homepage URL;WORK:Business Web Homepage NOTE;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Memo=0D=0A X-GENDER:Male X-TEMPLATE:New Message Template X-REPLY-TEMPLATE:Reply Message Template X-FORWARD-TEMPLATE:Forward Message Template REV:20010616T201859Z END:VCARD Note, both are VERSION:2.1. (If you want to try importing these, just put them in an ASCII file, and left justify all the text.) I was able to import either file into either app (TB Palm DT). In TB, multiple imports resulted in only one entry. Unfortunately, in Palm TD, each vCard import generated *another* entry (if you have a category selected, that is where it is imported...). The duplicate entries issue importing into the Palm DT I could probably resolve. For example, we could export the entire AB from both TB Palm AB. Then compare the 2, and strip all the dups from the import to Palm file. Any interest? Should I work on this? I don't expect it would be a considerable amount of code, but I only write in Perl which may be a little hard to distribute. If I get this working in Perl, would anyone be interested in porting to C? Here is the vCard export from the Palm DT of the above TB Address entry: BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:Last name;First name FN:First name Last name TITLE:Job title ORG:Company Name ADR:;;Street address;City;State / Province;ZIP / Postal code;Country NOTE;QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Memo=0D=0A EMAIL:E-Mail address(es) TEL;WORK:Phone TEL;HOME:Voice TEL;CELL:Car / Cellular TEL;PAGER:Pager END:VCARD You can see that there is considerably less information in the Palm address book! vcard importing
Hi, One of the features that I'd really like to see in TB (or know how to use if it exists) would be the ability to import an entire directory of .vcf (vcard) files into the address book. I use Time Chaos to manage my contacts (highly recommended) and I can use the mailto: field in it to invoke The Bat, but I'd like to duplicate my contacts in TB's address book. As it stands now, Time and Chaos can do a mass export of all my contacts and create individual vcards, but there are hundreds of them and it's a bit time consuming to import each one at once.
