I'm starting to get more and more meeting requests from Outlook users.
Does anyone use a good program they use with TB! or have a good

Thanks for the help.

vcard problem

2004-08-11 Thread WilWilWil
Hi,

It seems that the photo field of vcard created with TB can only be viewed by TB.

I can read vcard created by TB on my Palm Desktop Soft (on PC, not on the
handled), but not the photo field !

I can read vcard created by TB on OE6 Outlook Pro but not the photo field !

What's this problem ? Compatibility of TB is not universal ?

TB is behaving as is to be expected. %ToFName picks the first part of
the name, apparently unless it encounters a known format like 'lname,
fname' where it takes the part after the comma.

JN Any ideas how to fix?

Since all of the addressees are in your AB, you can use
%ABToFirstName, that will work like a charm.

Hello Joseph,

On Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at 11:47:50 PM you wrote (at least in part):

JN The macro for first name (%TOFNAME) in the template interprets all of
JN that to read, in the message editor: Mr.

'%ToFName' ain't the macro for 'First Name' of recipient, but for
'first name' in recipient field.
The difference is: you can differ between 'First Name' as e.g.
'Joseph' for your name, while '%ToFName' goes for the 'first instance
of a name' it sees there, and this is 'Mr.' in your case.
Only '%ABToFirstName' can figure out, what the _FIRST_ name of a
person is, as this name is written (hopefully) into a field named
'first name'.
So if you write a mail to somebody in your AB and in 'To:' there is

Doe, John [EMAIL PROTECTED]

'%ABToFirstName' can extract 'John' as 'First Name' from AB, while
'%ToFName' takes the very first name it sees. There's no chance for
'%ToFName' to identify _the one_ string within all given, which
represents the first name.

JN Any ideas how to fix?

Use consequently '%ABToFirstName', maybe in addition with an '%IF'
construct, that uses '%ToFName' if '%AB...' macros are empty because
you're not writing to somebody from your address book.

Roelof and Peter,

up the correct text.

There is another way to achieve what you are looking for, although
IF-statements are helpful sometimes.

You can just use %ABtoFIRSTNAME=%TOFNAME (or
%ABofromFIRSTNAME=%OFROMFNAME for replies) in your template. This uses
the first name in the address book if there is one, otherwise it uses
the result of %TOFNAME/%OFROMFNAME.

Peter,

I inserted the following and it seems to be doing the trick. With my
tests, it picks up the correct first name when there's an AB entry in
any form; when the TO: syntax reads lname, fname email [with
quotes], regardless of whether the recipient is in the AB; and when
the form is fname lname email, regardless of whether the recipient
is in the AB.

   %ABToFirstName=%TOFNAME,

Is there an IF statement that would be better?

Especially for this case you can use %ABtoFIRSTNAME=%TOFNAME, this
will insert the address book first name when available and the the
first name part of the To address when no AB entry is available.

vCard interpretation

2002-06-11 Thread Joseph N.

I occasionally export my Lotus Organizer contacts, or those with email
addresses, in vCard format in order to import the same data into TB! I
have a dedicated AB in TB! to contain the information, which is sorted
by last name. Because of the use of the Lotus contact database for
mail merges, the prefix is one of the fields completed, e.g., Mr.,
Ms., etc. The import appears to go perfectly; when one opens any of
the imported records in TB!, all of the fields are completed
appropriately. (Except that I would like to be able to change the
Display As field on a global basis.)

The problem is that, despite the appearance of the right information
in each of the TB! record fields, the macros are not reading the data
correctly. For example, if I have a record for myself, and it lists
my title as Mr., my first name as Joseph, and my last name as
N., in the record (both Lotus and TB!), the TB! address book will
list me with the other N's, displayed as Mr. Joseph N. When I click
from within the message editor and search for my name, it dutifully
comes up, I click the single arrow to transfer it to the TO: field,
and what appears on the line is, unfortunately but acceptably, 'Mr.
Joseph N.' [EMAIL PROTECTED] So far so good.

The macro for first name (%TOFNAME) in the template interprets all of
that to read, in the message editor: Mr.

To make it even more mysterious, I have various contact groups which
are displayed as Last name, First name and the TO: field will show
'Last name, First name [EMAIL PROTECTED] but the macro picks up the
correct first name and reads, in the message editor: First name

What's going on? Any ideas how to fix?

vCard test

2001-12-27 Thread Dierk Haasis

Hello TBUDL Members!

I just added a JPEG to my vCard. When I sent it to my brother for a
test neither Outlook nor OE could handle it correctly. Both
programmes handed it over to WAB (Windows Address Book), which every
time we tried to open (import) the vCard consistently crashed.
Fortunately it didn't take Windows 98SE with it.

Since I use my vCard mainly for business purposes I don't want to
sent it out as it is. Can anybody see what I do wrong?

That's the way it should be if a programme doesn't support pics (as
OE, Outlook and WAB don't).

5.0) I got the message that it didn't seem to be a valid vCard. When I

Have you tried it with TB!? On my side there is no problem. The
picture is a normal JPEG created with the export filter from within
Corel PhotoPaint 9, which never did anything wrong to my knowledge.

And how come you could import it, but my brother couldn't, if the
picture is not correct?

At least it all became a bit better than what I had half a year ago,
when Win9x based machines consistently crashed - other than Macs with
Netscape which didn't have any problems with my vCard (even saved the
picture).

vCard naming

Hello TBUDL Members!

I just tried to rename my personal vCard under TB! from
Account.VCF to Dierk Haasis.VCF to attach a sensible named vCard
  to my business messages.

Guess what, TB! can't recognize the renamed file; it has to be named
  Account.VCF.

I would rather if my vcards could be named after me; the best would
be to have an option when creating or changing the vCard under
properties to give it a name of choice.

vCard exchange -TB to Palm Desktop (was:Syncing with Palm address book)

2001-06-16 Thread Tim Musson

Hey TBers,

This is kind of long, sorry...

Saturday, June 16, 2001, 2:53:37 PM, you wrote:

SS I have tried to export TB!'s AB as vCard with a pretty old
SS version. PalmDesktop failed to import them:( I've never tried to
SS do it ever since:)

TM Not sure where vCard came into the discussion here... All I found was
TM ref to .csv files in the thread (not that I looked that hard g.

Had some time, so looked at using vCard for address book exchange.

I filled in all fields in both apps (TB v1.35, and Palm Desktop
4.0.1). Then exported to vCard from each.

Palm seemed to be able to better selectively export (in TB the export
did everything in the address book instead of just what was selected -
does anyone know if you can only export part of a TB address book?).
I exported the one address from Palm Desktop (from previous work with
Palm Desktop, I know you can export selected or all in a Category, or
all). Here is what it looked like:

BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N:LN;FN
FN:FN LN
TITLE:Title
ORG:Company
ADR:;;Street;City;State;Zip;Country
NOTE:Note
TEL;WORK:Work

EMAIL:E-Mail
X-Palm-Custom1:Custom 1
X-Palm-Custom2:Custom 2
X-Palm-Custom3:Custom 3
X-Palm-Custom4:Custom 4
END:VCARD

Here is what the export from TB Address book looked like (after I
ripped out all but the one address...):

BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N:Last name;First name;Middle name;Mr;Jr
FN:Display name as
UID:Nickname (Handle)
EMAIL;PREF;INTERNET:E-Mail address(es)
BDAY:20010616

X-GENDER:Male
X-TEMPLATE:New Message Template
X-REPLY-TEMPLATE:Reply Message Template
X-FORWARD-TEMPLATE:Forward Message Template
REV:20010616T201859Z
END:VCARD

Note, both are VERSION:2.1. (If you want to try importing these,
just put them in an ASCII file, and left justify all the text.)

I was able to import either file into either app (TB Palm DT). In
TB, multiple imports resulted in only one entry. Unfortunately, in
Palm TD, each vCard import generated *another* entry (if you have a
category selected, that is where it is imported...).

The duplicate entries issue importing into the Palm DT I could
probably resolve. For example, we could export the entire AB from
both TB Palm AB. Then compare the 2, and strip all the dups from
the import to Palm file. Any interest? Should I work on this? I
don't expect it would be a considerable amount of code, but I only
write in Perl which may be a little hard to distribute. If I get this
working in Perl, would anyone be interested in porting to C?

Here is the vCard export from the Palm DT of the above TB Address
entry:

BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N:Last name;First name
FN:First name Last name
TITLE:Job title
ORG:Company Name
ADR:;;Street address;City;State / Province;ZIP / Postal code;Country
NOTE;QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Memo=0D=0A
EMAIL:E-Mail address(es)
TEL;WORK:Phone
TEL;HOME:Voice
TEL;CELL:Car / Cellular
TEL;PAGER:Pager
END:VCARD

You can see that there is considerably less information in the Palm
address book!

Thoughts anyone?

Hello Dierk and everyone else...

DH After I've get my vCard properly to work (by deleting my picture, so
DH other mail clients can import the vCard), I just realised that the

DH Is this possible in TB!? Or is this a feature request?

Try this... Export your own contact information to a vCard (.vcf)
file. Name it whatever you please. Sure, give it your name. Then use
the %attach macro in your message template to attach the custom-named
vCard to your message, rather than letting TB name it. :-)

...what I would do, anyway. GL

He uses NS 4.5 for Mac - and was the one bringing me to use vCards.
It looks as though he of all people cannot use the whole format with

Hi Slava

 Having problem with personal vCard.
 Utilities|Attach Personal vCard| - nothing happens...
(I do have record for myself in address book)

You've to edit your personal vcard in Account properties.

With the proper account selected click on Account/Properties. You
should see a button labeled "Edit personal vCard" which will lead you
to the vCard that will be attached. This isn't in the address book.
It is a file named ACCOUNT.VCF found in the account folder.

Re: The Bat! - bug report (VCard Export)

Hello, the Bat! list recipients,

The Bat! - bug report (VCard Export):

When you export from an address book you export entire address book,
vcf format supports multiple entries in one file, then when you view a
vcf file it just positioned at first entry.

Try export selection to export selected entries only.

vcard importing

2000-05-09 Thread Gord McCallum

Hi,

One of the features that I'd really like to see in TB (or know how to
use if it exists) would be the ability to import an entire directory
of .vcf (vcard) files into the address book. I use Time Chaos to
manage my contacts (highly recommended) and I can use the mailto:
field in it to invoke The Bat, but I'd like to duplicate my contacts
in TB's address book.

As it stands now, Time and Chaos can do a mass export of all my
contacts and create individual vcards, but there are hundreds of them
and it's a bit time consuming to import each one at once.

Is there a workaround or am I missing anything?

Open the vCard. On the top-right corner, you will find a button "add
to addressbook". Click on in, and the whole vCard is imported to your
addressbook.
