Ken, use the page numbers you see in the status bar, not the page numbers
you told Word to print.

Well, maybe we're getting closer.

FWIW, neither section has been formally named or designated as "Section 1" or
"Section 2".

When I entered page range "p2s2-p4s2", I got pages ii thru iv (from the
foreword section of the book).

I'll keep trying if more ideas come through.

IIRC, you can also just specify the section, choosing to print s1, s2, and
so on. Without having to specify the exact page numbers...

You have to specify the section number, along with the page numbers.
IIRC, the start page is "p1s1-p8s1".

[TCP] (no subject)

2007-11-19 Thread poshedly
Here's a printing problem for you Word-experts.

Currently, I'm working on a document approximately 100 or so pages in length. I
used a "section break" to split the first 8 pages from the rest of the book.

The first section (Foreword) contains the title page, TOC and a few more pages
of technical data and uses Roman numerals in the page footer. Total length = 8
pages (or "viii").

The second section (book proper) begins with Arabic number 1 in the footer and
contains a series of chapters which are really the meat of the book.

The first chapter in the book proper is also 8 pages long.

When I attempt to print out only pages 1-8 (of the book proper), I get "i" thru
"viii" AND pages 1 thru 8.

If I attempt to print pages 1 thru 7 or anything less, I get only those pages
from the Foreword (i through vii).

Of course, when I print pages 9 thru anything else, only those pages from the
book proper are printed (obviously because there are no Foreword pages "ix" and
up).

In the Word print menu, I checked the "Print what" and "Options" drop-downs and
none of the choices apply. (The "Properties" button, of course, applies to only
the printer itself, in this case a Canon Imagerunner 7095, but it doesn't
matter because it happens with all of the other printers in the printer room
anyway).

How can I print ONLY pages "1" thru "8" (or anything less) without getting the
Foreword (Roman numeralled) pages as well?

I'm sure there's a few keystrokes I'm not doing, but what are they? And lots of
trees out there would like to know as well.

WOW! Reading about other folk's projects makes me feel like a slacker! My main job is teaching Psychology rather than tech writing. But I do tech writing as part of my moonlighting activities. I'm learning more about it reading posts from you pros.I'm currently working on:1. An assembly manual for a novel kit car frame - while building the prototype.2. Building a website for the project (http://www.mekk.biz).3. Assisting development of another website (http://www.ddstaff.com).4. And, attempting to prep* for reading 170 student psych experiment reports (takes about 40 hours). * Requires meditation,
remembering I'd be starving with out my tiny salary, and occasional consumption of alcohol.See my blog at: psysciguy.blogspot.com/ for comments on the intersection of Psychology and the wider world of Science. Freedom isn't free.___
