Re: [tech-cord] updatting faculty computers
Hey Charby We actually had two systems running XP in our district now you can't fall behind Rockwell City!!! We are always last and our administration wants it that way. I should send you a letter for a tech meeting where one teacher compares computers to the passing fad of pet rocks and another one PC sales repreps to snake oil trader that passing threw town selling the schools over priced junk that doesn't advance the students knowledge. Also that we here in Rockwell City should be a leader in non-technology. And hey guess what we are WE ARE NUMBER 1# in your face Sac City!! Heck, I could have replaced the whole machine for $200, already own the Windows software and Office, etc. and could have re-used the monitors. Computers have really reached the commodity level now. I'm going to order one of the Lindows machines, put it through its paces and then I'll report back to everybody. Re: [tech-cord] updatting faculty computers
Chris, You could transfer Windows 98 SE to the new systems. Most of my Windows licenses I purchased through OEM's and are not attached to a specific machine. That will change for sure with XP. Re: [tech-cord] updatting faculty computers
I am with you George. I replaced my teachers old 133MHZ machines this summer with P2 400 Compaqs for around $100 each. Cost me 20 to ship. I bought some extra that I will use if they die otherwise they have become disposable computers for me. IF one dies I will part it out and get rid of it. My staff think they are the fastest machines made and for what they do it is ok for them to run. I also bought P75 17" monitors for $70 shipped. I spent around $14,000 this past summer and added 60 machines and 60 monitors to my elementary and 20 computers to the HS. Whatever we can do to save money.
