Haven’t heard back about install procedure for Terascript 7.1.3 on OSX

We still make the recommendation to install version 8 in a discrete

All –

We have released 8.0.7.

The installer will install both the Server and TeraScribe products. You should
run the uninstaller first.

Corrected are several bugs in TeraScribe plus a new theme. The theme will only
load if you first delete the preference8.xml file from your user directory –
this won’t lose data sources or other settings.

In the next release we’re going to ship at least one more theme and make themes
portable and provide theming documentation so you can customize them.

Server notes:

New @HASHPASSWORD and @VERIFYPASSWORD to help with password security.

@ISDATE|NUM|TIME|TIMESTAMP backwards compatible value= attribute support.

New tag @PARSECSV

@INCLUDE eval=false to include TML without evaluating it.

@WEBCALL can now support client-side and self-signed SSL certificates.

Improved @SORTs SMART behavior

@LIST no longer requires a type

List tags reworked for more intuitive use

Please let us know if you have any trouble.

Thanks,

Robert

RE: TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript 6.2.7 [Advanced Edition] 30 seconds freeze when timing out variables, on Windows Server platform

2017-07-24 Thread Andrej Popovic
The internal client does succeed in making the hit in the end (probably by
negotiating down from TLS) but at the cost of all the threads being suspended
for 30 seconds.

I guess I could set up a HTTP web on the same server on a “private” socket and
use that just for the internal callbacks, but in this case I was able to
implement the required functionality by using another method which did not rely
on the variable timeout trigger.

I suspect I need to have a look at the IIS config as the above implies that SSL
or TLS 1.0 are still live.

Thanks for your help.

There may be a connection there. The VTT uses an internal http web client that
broke over the years with changes to SSL/TLS. I believe that you’ll find that
forcing non-SSL protocol will correct the issue. The same goes for
startup/shutdown URLs and cron URLs. It’s best to avoid HTTPS.

Hi all

I am observing TeraScript 6.2.7 [Advanced Edition] on Windows Server pausing
all processing when timing out session variables for a user session. The pause
is always around 30 seconds and affects all TeraScript threads.

It would seem to be connected with using variableTimeoutTrigger which is set at
the start of a user session to:

https://<@httpattribute<https://%3c@httpattribute> SERVER_NAME><@httpattribute
PATH_ARGS>?function=logoff&userid=<@var user_id>

Examining the value of variableTimeoutTrigger in the user session shows the
correct URL with the metatags evaluated to the correct strings.

The customer has recently gone from using HTTP to HTTPS and this seems to have
introduced the 30 second pause, but not 100% sure about that.

Does it make sense? Anyone else experienced this? What can we do?

TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript Server 7.1.3 patch released

2016-09-07 Thread Robert Shubert
A bug was found in the initial release of 7.1.3.

In rare circumstances this bug will cause data source usernames and
passwords to decrypt incorrectly.

This issue has been corrected and new installers are now available. If
you've already downloaded and installed 7.1.3, please download the installer
again and redo the installation.

Even if your data sources are working normally, you are encouraged to update
since the bug may show up in other parts of the platform.

The installer has the same name, however when you run the installer the
first screen will report 7.1.3.1 indicating this patch.

Likewise the executable will not show any differences and @VERSION will
return 7.1.3, however the .exe file itself will be dated today.

Re: TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript Server 7.1.3 for OSX

2016-09-06 Thread dale . graham
Installed successfully on El Capitan (10.11.6) using the
"Install_Terascript_10_10" script.
Note that I had already been running TS server 7 on El Capitan

One big trick appears to be installing Java 6 if you have a fresh install of El
Capitan in order to get the installer itself to run. AND to allow "Install
Anything" as well.

If you are running El Capitan, it is running Apache 2.4, so you will need the
mod_terascript_apache24.so file and will need to modify the the terascript.conf
file to point to the 24 so file rather than the 22 so file BEFORE you run the
10_10 script, too.

We haven't tested on El Capitan Mac OS X server though.

Subject: TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript Server 7.1.3 released

We are pleased to announce the release of TeraScript Server 7.1.3

TeraScript 7.1 is the final release of the 7.x product line and, for the
server, the final release based on the codebase that can be traced back to the
90s. We will be supporting 7.1 until 12/31/2017. This support will cover
functionality which doesn’t match documentation, operating system compatibility
and security issues. We will not be adding new features to 7.1 unless there is
a clear need for the feature. Our goal is to provide a solid and secure
platform for you to use with confidence while you migrate to our newer
platform. This version will also act as our benchmark for legacy compatibility
going forward.

We have corrected a number of issues present in 7.1.1 which customers and
internal testing found. We’ve also updated SSL to support TLS 1.2.

The OSX release is delayed by a week.

Here is the change log:

XML Documents now preserve encoding when copying to another variable
@APPEND: now errors if STR is not Text
Implement FTP directory listing over secure FTP
Fix bug when assigning unscoped, subscripted variable that partially matched
configuration variable name
Fix passing binary data through TCF return and out parameters
Fixed memory leak in the email action
Fixed bug in hex decoder when input was not valid hex characters
@++: Fixed memory leak
Removed extra CRLF when building HTTP headers under pooling
Make new directories with open permissions
Improved throwing normal errors on timeout
Improved request timeout mechanism in ODBC
Split error -335 into two errors (adding -334)
Update dependencies: cURL 7.50.1; OpenSSL 1.0.2h (supports TLS 1.2)

The installer is available on our website www.terascript.com
<http://www.terascript.com> and will work with your current licenses.

Thank you,
TeraScript Support

I think this error basically says that convert can’t run ghostscript.

You may have to write a that just calls gs directly and see if there is some
problem running it from the external action.

The strange thing is that when I run this line from the Terminal it works

The error I’m seeing in the Console is this:

4/15/16 1:46:24.983 PM sudo[4723]: wayneirvine : TTY=unknown ;

-flatten /path/to/target.jpg

I added the following lines to the sudoers file:

Default:username !requiretty

username ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL

Now I get no error, but no JPG either.

TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript Server 7.1.1

2016-01-04 Thread Robert Shubert
We are pleased to announce the release of TeraScript Server 7.1.1

TeraScript 7.1 is the final release of the 7.x product line and, for the
server, the final release based on the codebase that can be traced back to
the 90s. This release will serve several purposes over the next few years.
First, we will be supporting 7.1 for two years, until 12/31/2017. This
support will cover functionality which doesn't match documentation,
operating system compatibility and security issues. We will not be adding
new features to 7.1 during this period unless there is a clear need for the
feature. Our goal is to provide a solid and secure platform for you to use
with confidence while you migrate to our newer platform. This version will
also act as our benchmark for legacy compatibility going forward.

We have been able to correct a number of issues present in 7.0.7 and add a
few new features. We've also updated some dependencies to address security
issues mostly related to SSL. Here's the change log for the server:

Fixed loading of Custom Tags on newer 64-bit Windows OS

Fixed JDBC crash when the resultset contained a null value

Storing the resultset of a Select action into a DOM now works

@CIPHER: added SHA3 hash algorithms: SHA3_256, SHA3_384, SHA3_512

Email action: fixed ability to make a new connection when using username and
password

Email action: obfuscated password in debug

Email action: additional encodings

File actions: added FTPS support (implicit port 990 and explicit AUTH)
(requires TeraScribe 7.1)

Webcall action: added FORM protocol which POSTs a multi-part form (RFC 2388)
(requires TeraScribe 7.1)

Updated Dependencies: cURL 7.41, OpenSSL 0.9.8zf

@POSTARGFILENAME: new tag that returns the file name of a POSTed file

@LOCATE: new attribute START, indicates the byte at which to start scanning

@SUBSTRING: NUMCHARS attribute is now optional, when not supplied substring
returns the rest of the string

@SQL: Reverted behavior to return last SQL query regardless of method call
stack

@NEXTVAL, @++, @--: improved logging

Update action: fix crash when no data source set

Encoding: new encoding type "json" for JSON strings

TCF method return value: Added new return types and improved existing ones
(requires TeraScribe 7.1)

Fixed small memory leak when accessing a file

Fixed crash when cookie name is empty

Fixed a bug with @COL and @COLUMN when not in @ROWS but in a method which is
called from within @ROWS

Fixed a bug when ODBC datatype was CLOB

OSX: Updated build system for OS X 10.10 (Yosemite)

OSX: Fix linking for Yosemite

SQL Generator: Add FileMaker Dialect

SQL Generator: Corrected several quoting and escaping issues

Updated Installers

We are also releasing TeraScribe 7.0.3. This release fixes a bug in which
TAFs and TCFs might become corrupt due to two actions having the same name.

TeraScribe 7.1.1, as mentioned in the change log, is currently in internal
testing and will be released as soon as possible.

These updates are available on our website www.terascript.com
and will work with your current licenses.

Thank you,

TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript 8 Beta program

2015-07-30 Thread Robert Shubert
TeraScript Developers,

Tronics is looking for people who are interested in actively participating
in the version 8 beta.

Participation will involve installing builds roughly once per week and
testing your own software on them. Should you encounter issues, you would
provide code or observations back to us so we can correct the issue.

We understand that most people are busy with their projects and commitments,
but we are hoping to have a few users who can carve out a bit of time here
and there to help us make the product better before launch.

You may join or leave the beta program at any time, and we expect the
program to run through the end of 2015. Currently we are only making builds
for the Windows platform. OS X and Linux users: we'll open the beta up to
these platforms later in the year.

This is not a public beta program, however, you will not be required to sign
an NDA or other agreement, and are allowed to discuss and share the software
during the beta with others who are not participating.

It is strongly recommended that you do not run any beta software in a
production environment.

If you are interested, please send an email to b...@terascript.com
. We would like to start the program in a few
weeks.

Thank you,

Robert

TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript Platform: Dropping support for ODBC

2015-05-22 Thread Robert Shubert
TeraScript Users,

As we evolve the platform, it becomes necessary to change some fundamental
aspects to provide a better product or keep up with current technology. Our
decision to focus on Java as our development platform was one of these
choices, driven mostly from the inactivity in C++ projects which help us
extend the functionality of the platform.

Today I'm announcing that we will be phasing out support for ODBC in the
next few releases.

There are three main reasons for this decision:

1) While ODBC support is robust on Windows, the Linux and OS X
platforms support only minimal ODBC features and with a significant learning
curve to the end user.

2) Since our products are now Java based, and the JDBC to ODBC driver
is no longer supported, included, or functional, it's difficult to interact
with ODBC data sources.

3) JDBC now has a feature set that is superior to ODBC. Our
applications can learn more about the data sources they are connecting to
through JDBC.

A little more about those points:

My first point mainly speaks to how ODBC is an integral part of Windows, but
an add-on on other platforms, some of which (OS X in particular) no longer
include it by default and make it difficult for the end user to install and
manage. By switching to JDBC, we level the playing field. Updated TAFs will
hold a JDBC configuration and will work on any platform, regardless of
environment and how that environment is configured. It won't be necessary to
make changes to your OS settings (Windows Data Sources control panel, Linux
odbc.conf) nor will it be necessary to alter the jdbc.ini file in the
TeraScript Server installation. TAFs and TCFs will retain all of the
necessary information to create a JDBC connection and will simply work.

The second point is regarding the use of the JDBC to ODBC driver which was
added to the Java platform as a stop-gap measure back in Java 1.1. That
driver was never officially supported, and today it is sometimes not
included (OS X, Java 8) or doesn't function properly (64-bit JVM and MS SQL
Server). No one is going to support this software and we must move away from
using it.

My last point is about the feature set of JDBC. You may not know this, but
Microsoft actually stopped development on ODBC back in the 90s. In 1997,
ODBC 3.5 was released and that was the last release of the spec (and
management software) until Windows 7 in 2009, which came with ODBC 3.8. This
dozen year gap in development meant that users looking to get more out of
their database connectivity looked to the evolving JDBC standard. JDBC 4.x
(the current spec) contains a significant amount of well standardized
information about the database it's connecting to, the environment it's
executing in, and the connection itself. As we improve our platform,
TeraScript will use this information to create better queries and
improvement performance, stability and security.

All major databases now offer a JDBC driver, most of which are JDBC 4.0
compliant, supporting the full range of functionality. JDBC is now as fast
as ODBC, and it will provide a tighter integration to TeraScript so that
retrieved data retains its proper type.

What to expect:

TeraScribe 7.1 will drop support for using ODBC to introspect a database.
All data sources in TeraScribe will be setup with JDBC. You will still have
the option to provide ODBC credentials for TeraScript Server to use. Users
on OS X know that this is how TeraScribe has always worked for you.
TeraScribe 7.1 will offer some improvements to help you build your JDBC
connection URL and to easily update all the data source information in a TAF
at once. Migration will not be necessary, you will only need to update
database actions as you modify them.

TeraScript Server 8.0 will drop support for ODBC. Version 8 is a complete
rewrite in Java and as such will not use ODBC in any way. Migration will
again not be necessary, however there is a new configuration variable which
allows you to map a data source name to a JDBC connection. For applications
which use ODBC, this variable will need to be set appropriately.

For users who must have access to ODBC, we are planning on supporting at
least one bridge technology. One such option is made by Easysoft which you
can read about here:
http://www.easysoft.com/products/data_access/jdbc_odbc_bridge

Please feel free to ask, either publically or privately, any questions you
may have about this transition. Comments and suggestions are also welcome.

Regards,

Robert

RE: TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript JVM errors

2014-11-17 Thread Robert Shubert
Anyone having an issue getting the JVM to load on Windows 2008 R2 or newer may
have to install this package from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523

Note that this link points to the 64-bit package, and a 32-bit package is
available for those OSes.

The symptom is that once Java 7 is installed and the path in the server.ini is
known to be correct, the JVM still doesn’t load.

This may affect other versions of Windows. We’ve done no testing with Java 8.

Anyone have any ideas on this below.

We currently have TeraScript 7.07 Advanced Server installed and licensed on a
Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64-bit server. Upon start of the TeraScript 7 service, one
error and one warning show in the event viewer. The error is "[1604] Java

load: Unable To Load any JVM shared library. The specified resource type
cannot be found in the image file". The subsequent warning is "[1604] JAVABEAN
Interface: Cannot initialize the plug-in The specified resource type cannot be
found in the image file" and I assume is related to the error message.

TeraScript is installed to C:\Program Files\Tronics Software\. The website
documentation indicates that JRE 7u25 is the preferred version, and I have
tried installing both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and changing the
JAVAVIRTUALMACHINE in the server.ini to point to the jvm.dll within each of
these, to no effect.

What is needed to get rid of this error/warning and to enable the java
integration for TeraScript?

This is our first install of any version and we are using the newest product
version

Hi Steve,

Can you check whether the JVM path is rightly defined in config file? Probably
there's a typo in JAVAVIRTUALMACHINE param that's missing the eye, just match
that with the path where dll is located and restart the server. Should be good
to go.

Naveen.

RE: TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript JVM errors

2014-11-16 Thread Robert Shubert
Steve,

After installer a relatively new (or latest) version of Java 7 (64-bit), you
should enter this in the server.ini:

JAVAVIRTUALMACHINE=C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre7\\bin\\server\\jvm.dll

(you can verify the location)

If it still fails to load, there may be some other issue.

You only need the JVM to load if you are using JDBC or JavaBeans.

error and one warning show in the event viewer. The error is "[1604] Java
Virtual Machine: JVM specified by JAVAVIRTUALMACHINE in server.ini file did not
load: Unable To Load any JVM shared library.

This is our first install of any version and we are using the newest product
version

Thank you for any help

TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript 7 Calendar

2014-10-28 Thread Robert Shubert
Hi all,

I thought I'd post the current rough calendar of releases for TeraScript 7
since it has changed quite a bit in the past few months. Timeframes will be
rough, and releases may or may not be made due to customer feedback,
severity of issues, etc. This should, however, help users plan for the
future.

Version 7.0

October 2014: Release 7.0.7

Jan - Feb 2015: Release 7.0.9, clear up any remaining reported issues. Final
7.0 release.

Version 7.1

We are now planning to release a set of 7.1 releases throughout 2015 as
such:

Q1 2015: 7.1.1

Q2 2015: 7.1.3

Q3 2015: 7.1.5

Q4 2015: 7.1.7

The goals of 7.1 are:

To extend support through 2015. Many users are still moving from Witango and
6.x and we want to ensure that they have a supported platform to upgrade to.

To improve installers and platform support for OS X 10.10, Ubuntu/CentOS,
and Windows Server 2012 and 8.x. OS releases later in the year will be
supported at that time.

To provide TeraScribe improvements. TeraScribe has remained stagnant through
7.0, and we want to return to improving the developer environment.

Version 7.1 is expected to be the final 7.x release. 7.1 will operate with
existing 7.0 licenses, so this will be a free upgrade. 7.1 may have some
platform support changes, such as dropping CentOS 5, Windows XP and Windows
Server 2003. We will update the supported OS list on the site to better
document which releases are supported on which OSes. We may also make
changes during 7.1 which will ease migration to 8.x.

I hope this helps users who are still planning upgrades and/or new
installations. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Robert

RE: TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript Community Questions

2014-05-09 Thread Scott Cadillac
Hello,

When I made the transition to ASP.NET from Tango (early 2001?), I found the
learning curve steep and I had to totally change how I thought about
application design. Some days I really missed the Tango Editor and it’s
graphical ease.

For the most part it has been true that building an application from scratch
can be faster using the Tango inspired Editor, than using MS Visual Studio.

But now-a-days this statement is no longer true. With the advent of jQuery and
other Libraries & Frameworks like Twitter Bootstrap, MVC and Razor syntax –
building a sophisticated application quickly in Visual Studio is almost
trivial. Not to mention the gains in extensibility, like Web API and Azure.

I sincerely don’t mean to muddy the waters here. I truly wish Robert every
success, but some statements in this thread are not entirely accurate (in my
opinion).

In my experience, the success of a Software project will first of all largely
hinge on how capable your people are. The tools they use are secondary to their
skills, because their preferred tool will give them the path of least
resistance (and presumably speed them on their way) and their not-first-choice
tool will definitely slow them down – especially if they resist the transition
to a new toolset.

The idea that a good Developer’s toolset is interchangeable with their skills
sounds practical, but in reality should be taken with a pragmatic grain-o-salt.
This is not necessarily true in all cases, but definitely some.

So Steve, you’ve asked some good questions here about platform choices, but
have you asked your current Developers what they prefer? Because you might
already have your answer, in which case it becomes a problem of the low-hanging
fruit and how high up the tree you need to go ;-)

All the best!

Darth Cadillac

have been using the product for around 100 sites on 6 servers along with
several databases and have been very happy thus far. When I say mission

Hi Steve,

I'll put in my 2 cents...

Doug makes some good points, but I believe that there are other criteria as
well.
Otherwise, I would have changed to another language myself!

Terascribe is truly a fast prototyping tool and programming language. I find
that I
can program twice as fast in Terascribe as in languages like PHP and ASP.NET,
which are the biggest languages out there.

I am NOT willing to have a drearier programming experience that takes twice as
long, so I stick with Terascribe. My clients also benefit from the dollars
saved in
 my programming time.

There are some very large high performance projects that may not be suitable for
Terascribe, but anything small to medium large can be handled well. I think that
I remember Robert saying that Terascript should be able to handle a million page
views (executions) per day. [Robert, care to update this number?]

Yes, there are fewer Terascribe programmers around, but they do exist. There
are good
ones on this list. And it is fine to post work projects on this list. People
have done so in the past.

So, it really depends on what your needs are. If you are in a situation where
it's really
important to have a large pool of programmers to pick from, then use a
mainstream language.

2014-05-08 Thread Ian Daniel
Not to be left out … Ian Daniel here, of NCOL Internet

I originally replied to Steve off-list .. but for the benefit of the community
.. allow me to summarize my comments.

n  We use Terascript extensively;

n We also develop in .NET .. and have found the same as everyone else .. it
requires more time to develop .. and that impacts the bottom line.

n Terascript is stable and robust, and Robert is the best thing that could
have happened to the product.

n The future releases that Robert has described will only increase its value
to our team here.

I hope this helps in decision-making …

Hello Steve,

We also have been using Tango, Witango and Terascribe and I concur to
everything that Stefan has pointed out. As for mission critical applications, I
have been using the product for around 100 sites on 6 servers along with
several databases and have been very happy thus far. When I say mission
critical, we are talking about some very large corporations located mostly in
the US. We do not handle their public facing sites, but have built many portals
for employees, vendors, suppliers, franchisees, etc. We also develop in
.net/asp but have found that the rapid deployment is a plus when using the

If you care to email me off the list, I would be more than happy to reply with

Hi Steve,

I'll put in my 2 cents...

Doug makes some good points, but I believe that there are other criteria as

Otherwise, I would have changed to another language myself!

Terascribe is truly a fast prototyping tool and programming language. I find

I am NOT willing to have a drearier programming experience that takes twice as
long, so I stick with Terascribe. My clients also benefit from the dollars

If you are a smaller shop and want to be very competitive based on dramatically
reducing
programming time, then Terascribe may be a great way to go. It is for me.

There aren’t very many people using WiTango around the world according to any
relevant metric out there. The pool of WiTango candidates in the Cincinnati
area is almost certain to be small or non-existent.

A friend of mine mentioned that the Clojure community felt that they achieved a
milestone when there was enough support of prominent open source committers and
contributors that if the founder Rich Hickey left they would still have a
healthy and active development community. WiTango is not open source so as a
platform it is only supported by Tronics Software. Tronics is very small and
only has two people (Emily and Robert) if I’m not mistaken. It is harsh to
say this as I don’t want to disparage anyone’s “baby”. However these

RE: TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript Community Questions

2014-05-08 Thread Robert Shubert
Steve,

Doug’s most recent post is on point. I would add that we do have a small team
of people that we’ve hired to help us, but Emily and I are the only full-time
employees of Tronics.

The community is small and the majority have been using the product for 10+
years. There are several firms that use the language around the country, as
well as in Canada, Australia, and Europe. It should be possible to find one to
take on consulting work. We (Tronics Software) also do consulting work. And
it’s OK to post to the list when looking for a developer. Provide a few general
points about the work involved and anyone who may be interested should contact
you.

When major platform development was stopped around 2005, the product lost a lot
of momentum. Since we’ve picked it back up in 2010, our goals have been mostly
to catchup to the modern server environment. A critical decision was made in
2012 when it became evident that the server codebase had an unsupportable
legacy to it. This prompted us to start from scratch on a rewrite.

Our focus is now moving to the future of the platform, including making it
attractive to new developers. To that end version 8 will be a distinctly new
product, albeit with robust backward compatibility support. Almost everything
outside of the core language will change, including how the software is
licensed, how it’s deployed and how it executes. It’s now designed around a
fully modern interpreter model and allows for significant extensibility. I’ll
soon be posting about new features and the open beta coming this summer.

I hope that helps and thank you for considering TeraScript,

Robert

A friend of mine mentioned that the Clojure community felt that they achieved a
milestone when there was enough support of prominent open source committers and
contributors that if the founder Rich Hickey left they would still have a
healthy and active development community. WiTango is not open source so as a
platform it is only supported by Tronics Software. Tronics is very small and
only has two people (Emily and Robert) if I’m not mistaken. It is harsh to say
this as I don’t want to disparage anyone’s “baby”. However these are the exact
same pieces of information I would give any executive with regards to the
question of WiTango adoption.

I'd like to thank all the users that provided bug reports and other input

RE: TeraScript-Talk: TeraScript and Internationalization and Localization

2014-03-21 Thread Robert Shubert
Due to the handling of multi-byte character sets (Unicode) TeraScript 8 will be
the first version to provide support for all languages through the UTF-8
character set.

In versions of the product previous to version 8, it is possible to support
other versions of ISO-8859, although this would be easier if I added a language
selector to TeraScribe so that the TAFs could be saved in the native charset.
In theory Witango and TeraScript < 8 could be made to work with any single-byte
character set.

That said, that’s really only solving the problem of processing specific
character sets. To fully internationalize your application would take some work.

Mac beta is not released.

When it is, you will be able to run both side by side, however you will
need to manually manage which plugin your web server uses.

Re: TeraScript-Talk: Terascript 6 STARTUPURL error

2013-04-17 Thread Tango-Talk
Hi Steve,

Robert has been very helpful in debugging this with us but unable to
reproduce this error. That's why I thought it was worth posting here to
see if anyone else is experiencing this. It doesn't appear so. Must be
something in our configuration.

Robert had me create a new server.ini with just the default settings,
remove our custom tag libraries, and strip things down to the basics.
Unfortunately that didn't work either. The site (all other .tafs, tcfs.)
work fine if we omit the STARTUPURL.

Per your suggestions:

Yes, we've tried the SHUTDOWNURL and while that alone doesn't keep the
server from starting up it does prevent it from shutting down cleanly. I
need to kill the Windows process via Task Manager. So there is perhaps
something related here.

I did remove all other server instances. Still happens.

I've tried this on 6.2.1, 6.2.3, 6.2.5 on two separate servers. Happens on
both. Very strange and most likely a result of something we're doing wrong
if we're the only one this is happening to.

DNS works on the app server. I can run the STARTUPURL .taf from the app
server just fine. I've even gone so far as to put the app servers assigned
static IP address in VALIDHOSTS instead of just leaving 127.0.0.1

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I'll post back to the forum when we
find a solution.

All the best,
Matt

Hi Matt,
The user I setup is a member of the Administrators group on the local machine.
You have done everything that I would suggest. I assume that web sites are
working fine on the server.
You have probably had Robert look at your server.ini.
I really reaching now, but have you tried reducing the server.ini to a minimum
and removing the other instances setup?
Have you tried SHUTDOWNURL to see if it will run a taf?
Does DNS work properly for this url?
Within server.ini?
Maybe try a different url (path) to gowstrt.taf.
http://localhost/gowstrt.taf
Is this a production server? Any chance you could downgrade to 6.2.1?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for this information.

We are running an "Advanced" version of 6.2.5, which I believe is the same as
Pro. I have 3 other instances setup on the server but am only running one while
we test this issue.

I just tried to run the Terascript server as the local Administrator on the box
(just to see if privs were an issue) and that produced the same results: server
appears to execute the STARTUPURL but then crashes and tries multiple restarts
before stopping. I also create another local user and gave it rights to Tronics
directory, no dice. Put it in the Administrators group, no dice. All our other
servers run as "Local System." May I ask what user you run your service as?
What permissions they have?

Yes, we can run the STARTUPURL .taf from a web browser without a problem. I can
also run it from a web browser on the application server itself. I have created
a .taf with an empty ResultsHTML action in it. That doesn't work either. Very
strange.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thank you for you help.

Subject: TeraScript-Talk: Terascript 6 STARTUPURL error

Does anyone run a .taf file by way of the server.ini STARTUPURL setting?

Our Terascript 6.2.x install crashes on startup when we have a .taf file set to
STARTUPURL. We have used this setting since the beginning of time with Witango
to have the app server do some maintence, drive mapping, etc. when it starts up.

Here's what you'll see in events.log on T6 when it crashes on the execution of
STARTUPURL. It attempts to restart. The Terascript.log file will show multiple
attempts at trying to restart before it quits. When we remove the STARTUPURL

Re: TeraScript-Talk: Terascript 6 STARTUPURL error

2013-04-15 Thread Tango-Talk
Hi Steve,

Thanks for this information.

We are running an "Advanced" version of 6.2.5, which I believe is the same
as Pro. I have 3 other instances setup on the server but am only running
one while we test this issue.

I just tried to run the Terascript server as the local Administrator on
the box (just to see if privs were an issue) and that produced the same
results: server appears to execute the STARTUPURL but then crashes and
tries multiple restarts before stopping. I also create another local user
and gave it rights to Tronics directory, no dice. Put it in the
Administrators group, no dice. All our other servers run as "Local
System." May I ask what user you run your service as? What permissions
they have?

Yes, we can run the STARTUPURL .taf from a web browser without a problem.
I can also run it from a web browser on the application server itself. I
have created a .taf with an empty ResultsHTML action in it. That doesn't
work either. Very strange.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thank you for you help.

- Matt

RE: TeraScript-Talk: Terascript 6 STARTUPURL error

2013-04-12 Thread Fogelson, Steve
Hi Matt,
We have been running STARTUPURL for over a year on our server. Same setup as
you. 64 bit Windows 2008 R2 server.
Three things potentially different.
We are running the pro version with 4 instances running on the same server.
We have not updated our server to the most current version. I believe we are
using 6.2.1.
We are not running the Terascript services as “Local System”. We are logging in
as a different account.
I assume you can run the taf successfully from a browser on the server.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Our Terascript 6.2.x install crashes on startup when we have a .taf file set to

If you are making thumbnails from jpegs, may I strongly suggest that you use
the -thumbnail command and not resize. There are several reasons, but the most
important being that it wipes out the color profile and other meta data. Very
important when serving lots of thumbnails.

It works! (sorta)

I have now changed the BASH script and the Command Line action.

First a make a VAR cmd and assign it like the following:

<@ASSIGN NAME=cmd SCOPE=local
VALUE='/Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/~luxe/tours/raw/IllyFreak679212.jpg
-resize 200x200
/Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/~luxe/tours/images/IllyFreak679212.jpg'>

The Command Line action is:

Command: /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/~luxe/admin/resizeimage.sh

Environment Variable:
cmd @@local$cmd

Trouble is the actual command I want to use is:

-resize 200x200\>

The backslash is causing an error. I have tried escaping it:

-resize 200x200\\>

But no difference.

Any clues?

Thanks Robert,

It is fairly straightforward to install Terascript on OSX Lion (10.7). Just use
the installer as though it was 10.6 Server and all works as planned.

That said, more than happy to test it out. My Lion server is just idling away
until I crack this one so I am more than happy to assist. I tried the BASH
script route but as I lack any experience in BASH scripts and can't seem to
find where to debug (console?) I struck a dead end.

Wayne,

I am pretty sure this could be done in lion with a simple bash script, and
witango_cmd would not even be needed. I feel bad, I couldn't find the source to
update. I would be willing to help but you would need to test. I don't have os
x lion running anywhere. I guess I can build a VM real quick, with vmware. What
is the best version of OS X to install terra script on? So I don't have to jump
through any hoops?

This should be fairly straight forward for windows batch also. the main reason
that I didn't do it that way before, is witango had some horrible crashing
problems with external apps and I made witango_cmd detect certain issues and
exit instead of hanging. Hopefully, that isn't necessary anymore.

TeraScript-Talk: Terascript and ImageMagick (still)

2012-04-11 Thread Wayne Irvine
To recap, on older Mac OSes (pre-Lion) I used witango_cmd (by Robert Garcia of
Big Head) as the link between Witango/Terascript and Imagemagick. I mostly use
Imagemagick to resize uploaded images to suitable sizes, but will shortly be
using it to create images for CAPTCHA.

The process is fairly straightforward. I define a var called 'appPath' and
assign it the value of witango_cmdX:

<@assign local$appPath "/file/path/to/witango_cmdX">

I then assign the command line to a var 'cmd':

<@assign local$cmd '/opt/local/bin/convert "/file/path/to/source/file.jpg"
-resize 200x200\> "/file/path/to/target/file.jpg"'>

I then use the Command Line action to send these to witango_cmdX:

Command: @@local$appPath

Environment Variable:
CMD @@local$cmd

Now that witango_cmdX no longer runs in OSX Lion I am a bit stuck. Someone
suggested using a BASH script in place of witango_cmdX. I tried writing the
following to a text file:

#!/bin/sh
# resizeimage.sh -- shell script to resize image
/opt/local/bin/convert $source $cmd $target

And calling it with the Command Line action with the three Environment
Variables:

source /file/path/to/source/file.jpg
cmd -resize 200x200\>
target /file/path/to/target/file.jpg

It doesn't work but without some sort of console or debug report I can't seem
to see what I have wrong.

Can anyone help with this, or point me in a direction where I can see what is
going on when I run this TAF?
