kde livecd from nightly-composes?

2010-11-13 Thread Rob Healey
Greetings all:

I am so grateful that someone has been able to get the KDE livecd working
from http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/kde !

There are two different architectures available on the website, but the
x86_64 iso is NOT truly 64bit! So I decided to download and burn the
opposite one thinking that maybe someone got the file names switched! Wrong
again!!!

Is there a way to create a 64bit livecd on a 64bit machine using setarch on
a 32bit install? I have downloaded and installed the livecd from the
website above, but it is not really a 64bit iso. Since there is no 64bit
iso right now, is there a way to create my own?

I tried using setarch x86_64 livecd-creator ... , but it does not know what
architecture I have typed ...

Sincerely yours,
Rob G. Healey

Updated F14 64 FTP file transfers Corrupted

2010-11-13 Thread Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX N2469R
Fedora 14 386 .iso files downloaded from cat.pdx.edu with
Firefox are corrupted and fail the sha256sum check.

The exact same files downloaded with Ubuntu 10.10 check OK.

It also appears that ftp and ncftp downloads are corrupted.

Comparing corrupted files with goof copies reveals bursts of
mismatches in between good data.

I suspect this is the same bug that affects pan and klibido
yenc downloads.

Re: Linus's Memcpy doesn't fix F14 pan breakage

I added the Linus memcpy given in the referenced articles
to the source code of xface.c, one of the routines in pan(1).
That did not fix the problem.

I also tried LD_PRELOAD and that didn't fix the problem either.

This suggests the breakage is unrelated to Pan's use of memcpy.

Note that if you have an i7 then there is a different glibc problem
(actually a chip bug) which affects F14 glibc, see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=651638
If you have that chipset I suggest you update to glibc-2.12.90-19 from
updates-testing (or downgrade to the latest F13 glibc).

More on file corruption with pan et al.

2010-11-13 Thread Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX N2469R
I net-installed 386 F14 on another machine.
This apparently brought in the latest files
as yum update had nothing to do.

A quick check of Pan revealed no problems.
I copied (cpio) the 386 Pan, the lib and usr/lib trees to the server
running 64 bit F14. Bingo, corrupted yenc downloads.

So far, it appears that 64 bit pan, klibido, ftp, ncftp, firefox-ftp,
and 32 bit pan are all affected by the updated 64 bit F14.

I thought the default was to build as the same arch as the system you are on.
You need to do setarch to build i386 on x86_64.

It is up to you but if you already have control-center rpm package
then you can do

  rpm -Fvh --nodeps --replacefiles control-center-2.91.2-2.fc15.x86_64.rpm

and follow that up with remaining updates.

Thanks, marked mine as a duplicate. Discovered that when I do a Bugzilla search,
the default OS is Linux, and this doesn't show your bug, but when I actually
file a bug, the default OS is Unspecified. You would think that Linux would
be a subset of this, but apparently it's considered distinct, so you get a
completely different list of bugs. So for now I'll have to do separate searches
on Linux and Unspecified to find all of them.

Pan, klibido, ftp, ncftp corruption: Another piece of the Puzzle?

2010-11-13 Thread Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX N2469R
I did a 64 bit F14 net install on my office machine.
This is the first 64 bit net install I've done since the days
when pxeboot installs worked for Rawhide.

Lo and behold, Pan now seems to be working properly
under the 64 bit net install F14. Previously a DVD
install followed by update resulted in a broken Pan.

So - DVD install followed by updates != net install

No worries at all. ;)

I am running composes now... it looks like more than the kde spin will
work this time, so it will take a while to complete them all. ;)

As soon as they are done I'll sync them over and update this thread.

Subject: kde 64bit nightly compose iso

Dear Kevin:

I am just asking if you were able to fix the 64bit iso for KDE? I would also
like to know about when you will upload it and make it available?

I am sorry to be irritating you, but I am anxiously awaiting for the iso...

Sincerely yours,
Rob G. Healey

Dear Rob et. all,

I had a successfully pre f14 x86_64 bit machine, but I believe many packages
are
broken :(, and one cannot do anything with it anyway. Don't mean to be
offensive to anyone, but for two weeks, rawhide is dead in my two machines. \

If one can use a livecd/livedvd, can we chroot /mnt/sysimage and yum update
from
there? Reinstalling is not what is my mind, unless other tried methods don't
work. I have tried logging into level 3, and yum updating from there, but
there
are too many broken things, even turning selinux to permissive gets me nowhere
:( I guess I wanted to test rawhide because I felt guilty not being able to
help out much with Fedora 14, and I am paying for it with Fedora 15 :(

Regards,

Antonio

P.S. Will try to update through Fedora 14 release, using chroot /mnt/sysimage
yum update and see if I can get anywhere, but next week not right now on those
machines :(

I did a 64 bit F14 net install on my office machine.
This is the first 64 bit net install I've done since the days
when pxeboot installs worked for Rawhide.

Lo and behold, Pan now seems to be working properly
under the 64 bit net install F14. Previously a DVD
install followed by update resulted in a broken Pan.

So - DVD install followed by updates != net install

Same hardware for both machines ???
