Re: [PBSS] elections, and Christmas

2010-10-23 Thread mmcart1061
So where and when would PBSS have their Christmas party in Carlsbad?
Can it be in a RV park? I need to plug in my camper so I can use the
110v outlets! without using the generator.

Cheers...

All--
At the October meeting we did not discuss either a Christmas Party or
officer nominations. I imagine we would vote at the November meeting?

So
are there nominations? Are there ideas for a Christmas Party? Maybe

we can
all go to SWR at Carlsbad 1st weekend of Dec. and call that the

party?!

We can get a motel room...shades of off-campus college parties...

Ideas posted to this list might get some good discussion going. Jacqui

Either way, I didn't have this info and now I do. Thanks for the coordinates.

Jacqui, I didn't write those, that came from BLM. BTW, the coords for it is
+32° 6' 37.74", -104° 24' 23.92" if you wanna plug those into a GPS.

[Texascavers] Re: New Project! Inner Space Caverns (HONEY CREEK CAVE TRIPS ANNOUNCEMENT!)

2010-10-23 Thread speleosteele
Right you are, Mark, don't forget tank hauls in Honey Creek Cave, Texas'
longest cave. We have our own tee shirt now, just distributed at TCR.

Matter of fact, there are two tank haul trips being planned now for mid to
late January 2011, and two more in the spring. So, there will be plenty of
fun for us all!

The first two tank hauls in mid-late January will be to support Jean "Creature"
Krejca and James Brown, two of the top cave divers in the USA and living right
here in the Lone Star State, in replacing the 18 - 20 year-old dive line in the
1,435 foot long HS upstream sump. Their gear will go in one weekend and come
out the other. We need lots of strong cavers, around 25, and the trip will
require a wetsuit and a smiley disposition. We will not be waiting on the
divers,
so a long wait in the fumes of Mallory's scented candles will not be your
experience, unlike what has happened before.

There are many great photos to be had in the almost three miles of the cave you
will see, but please take them on the way back to the entrance from the sump.

I'm ready to begin taking names of those cavers interested in these trips. We
will finalize the dates in the next week.

And if you go on one or both of the tank hauls, then you will qualify to go on
an exploration trip sometime next year when we will take my new 20' deer stand
ladder in, which breaks apart in five four foot sections, and get up the Shower
Stall and the other dome near it, which we will pass on the tank hauls.

Ellie Watson is helping me organize these trips, so please let either of us know
that you're interested.

Let it never be said that there aren't enough opportunities to go caving in
Texas!

Between all of our existing TSA projects (CBSP, Gov't Canyon, Longhorn), the
new
Devils River Project, TSS' Lake Amistad Project, the DFWG's Spring Creek Cave
project, and a load of other less publicized projects out there, just pick a
weekend and there will be something to do and somewhere to go.

As long as they're announced here and entered into the wonderful TSA Calendar.

Which leads us to our next new Project!

I began discussions over a month ago, during a sojourn to Longhorn, and after
having given a cave talk to a large group of Boy Scout leaders near Salado.

The general manager and landowner were very interested in beginning volunteer
activities with the TSA at this spectacular cave and, IMHO, one of the best
show
caves in the Southwest.

Here's what they initially would like for us to do:

Power Washing the trails - After hours (they close at 5:30) and using their
equipment. Rubber boots or tennis shoes recommended.

Algae cleanup from formations - Ditto, but if you have resto equipment, you're
welcome to bring it.

I'm thinking this would be a Friday night and/or a Saturday night project, for
as long as it takes or folks are interested, and they also have graciously
volunteered to take volunteers on a wild cave tour, either Saturday day or
Sunday AM.

No dates have been set, as I'm just trying to gauge the interest level. This
would be an excellent project for college cavers, due to it's proximity to
Austin (and DFW, for that matter).

Please contact me offline and I'll put you down.

Thanks again and hope to hear from YOU!

Mark
