Re: [Texascavers] HC Road Repair Pics

2016-03-09 Thread Bennett Lee via Texascavers
Perhaps you should have left a really rough patch with deep ruts. It’s so
smooth now that everyone’s car will make it to camp and no one will park at the
gate. Consequently, we’ll have more traffic and wear out the road faster
because you guys did too good of job. For shame! Learn to cut corners and
slack off!

But don’t slack off on the write up. I agree with Crash—this needs to be
published in the Texas Caver. That way future generations can see the efforts
we took to appease landowners and maintain access to Texas’ longest cave.

[Texascavers] second call for presentations --- TSA Spring Convention

2016-03-09 Thread Crash Kennedy via Texascavers
Cavers! This year's TSA Convention is going to be the biggest ever. We
will be at the Edwards County Fairgrounds in Rocksprings on April 22-24.
And this year we are also inviting the general public! So come prepared to
interact with ranchers, hunters, landowners, and schoolchildren and help to
teach them about the karst on which they live. Needless to say, we all
need to be extremely professional and on our best behavior. Oh, and
Edwards County has a no alcohol policy, so absolutely no bottles or cans
should be anywhere in sight (and coozies are not adequate cover -- use
another opaque container instead).

This short reminder is also to solicit additional 20-30 minute talks. We
still have some spaces available, so if you have something cool to share on
exploration, mapping, geology, biology, archeology, or paleontology
specific to Edwards Plateau caves and karst, then I want to hear about it!
Yes, this year our talks all have a theme, becoming the Edwards Plateau
Symposium. Contact me directly if you want to make a short presentation.

Now for some other teasers: We have camping on site, but with limited
trees, so come prepared. (Hey, it the Edwards Plateau, so that shouldn't
be a big surprise.) We'll have a central campfire, but no other fires are
allowed. We'll have the usual TCMA fundraising auction, but with a few new
twists. Esteemed chef Stefan Creaser and his crew will be serving a
delicious Tex-Mex buffet for the Saturday banquet. There will be
doorprizes. And you can make your own arrangements on Friday to see the
bat emergence at the Devils Sinkhole (Texas' deepest pit) or visit nearby
Kickapoo Caverns or Caverns of Sonora (both sponsors of this Convention)
before you head back home on Sunday.

If you have more questions, or need maps and directions, check out the 2016
TSA Spring Convention Facebook site. All the latest news and details will
be posted there.

See you in Rocksprings in April!
