[Texascavers] Fwd: [baltogrotto] Ellisons WNS positive
>From TAGnet: Ellisons WNS positive By: Allen Padgett (Lafayette, Georgia) on_r...@windstream.net Ellisons Cave on Pigeon Mountain in Walker County Georgia is the latest positive test site for WNS. The southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia has confirmed a sample bat submitted from a March 20 collection was positive. WNS signs were observed in numerous individual bats but no dead bats were observed. Ellisons receives visitors from all over the United States, Canada and the rest of the world so proper following of decontamination protocols is in order to protect continued access to this and other caves. The over 1800 bats living in Ellisons Cave have been advised of the finding. They have agreed to cease migrating especially southward or westward, not associate with any known infected individuals and to cover their mouths when coughing. Feel free to repost to other places as long as original source, Tag Net is referenced. Safe cavin, clean caving Allen Padgett

Re: [Texascavers] Looking for a grotto in Maryland
Not only is the Baltimore Grotto the most active of the 4 grottos mentioned, but also since most the caving for the entire region is Done in WV / Western VA the DC, Baltimore, and PSC (Northern VA) Grottos (all very active) maintain a shared caving calendar and communicate events to each other. http://www.cavingclub.org/info/calendar/cal.pdf user/pass: calend/gocave For the more informal events make sure to get into the grottos mailing list. Note: VAR is happening this weekend, this is kind of like TCR with lots of caving and partying. I would highly recommend going. -Brian On Tue, Sep 18, 2012 at 12:05 PM, Mark Minton wrote: > Hi Lissa, > > I am a former Terxas caver now living in Virginia. Re: [Texascavers] CBS WFAA Ch. 8 (DFW) Story on WNS and Bracken Cave
Because the body temperature of Mexican freetail bats doesn't drop low enough for the fungus to thrive, experts suspect freetails may instead become carriers that infect other bats. I hadn't heard that before... -Brian On Fri, May 11, 2012 at 11:02 PM, R D Milhollin wrote: > > http://www.wfaa.com/news/texas-news/Bats-threatened-by-mysterious-disease-150833365.html >
