[Texascavers] For those who know the Olenicks in Austin

2020-12-23 Thread Jocelyn Hooper
Walt Olenick called to let me know that he and Rae were in a bad car wreck
in early December...HWY 71 near La Grange. Car totaled. Both survived, but
spent considerable time in the hospital in Austin.
Rae has been home a couple of weeks, broken hand, concussion and seat belt
damage, but he just got home. He had to have some cracked cervical
vertebrae fused, plus other damage. They only have a land line, so you
cannot text, but would love to hear from folks. Walt can't do Zoom, so he
has not been able to attend the Grotto "meetings" and misses his caving
family. You are also welcome to go out to their place, socially distanced.
512-371-3786, 16216 Stewart Rd, Austin 78734-3545.
So thankful they are doing better, and may be back to acro-yoga one of
these days!

Speaking as a mother...ex-female caver...having children is wonderful, but
changes your ability to go caving. Easy family trips become the norm. No
more expedition type trips until the kids are old enough to stay home
alone, or go along safely. Or you stay home with the kids and your spouse
goes on the trips.

Re: [Texascavers] Caving vehicles

2019-06-08 Thread Jocelyn Hooper
Pete’ old red truck has gone to Houston with a fellow Sprouse told him
about who rebuilds old power wagons. We are still stuck with Stone’s truck
that slid upside down along a hwy in Mexico all those years ago. He lost
the title, and neither Pete nor I have been able to get him to get
another. Would love someone to haul it off! 若

[Texascavers] Off Trail Access at Palmito?

2019-04-14 Thread Jocelyn Hooper
Dave Brook forwarded this request to me. Orion says he is not up on the
subject, and Rune is down in Mexico right now...so, does anyone else
familiar with Bustamante have an answer for Michelle? Can she get the
permit in town, or does it have to be at the State level?
Thanks!
