Good idea. It has been a long, long time since I even considered descending into a pit. The knees refuse to cooperate any more. The youthful mind is deterred by the aged body. Getting old is not for sissies is it. And hey 25 times 3 aint that bad... I can still walk and possibly crawl. [Texascavers] Devils Sinkhole trip
Special announcement! After much work, we have arranged for a very limited trip on Sunday of the Convention into the Devils Sinkhole. You MUST have your own gear and be proficient in it's use, including passing rebelays and performing changeovers. Preference is being given to cavers who have NEVER before had an opportunity to enter the Sinkhole. Instead of holding a lottery or drawing names from a hat, we are auctioning off the spots, with the top 15 bidders guaranteed a spot on the trip. Proceeds go to TCMA. Details and bidding process is explained at http://www.cavetexas.org/events/TSASC/tsasc2016/devils_sinkhole_auction.php. Good luck! Please post to other Texas caving listserves. Also, don't forget to preregister for the Convention and save substantial money! http://www.cavetexas.org/events/TSASC/tsasc2016/register.php Jim Kennedy TSA Vice-Chair ___ Texascavers mailing list | http://texascavers.com Texascavers@texascavers.com | Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/texascavers@texascavers.com/ http://lists.texascavers.com/listinfo/texascavers
[Texascavers] Devils Sinkhole Trip
Folks, I have a water level measuring instrument in Devils Sinkhole which I need to remove on Saturday. I'm looking for one or two folks (toadies) that are vertically competent to go along and help. This is a one day trip scheduled for Saturday, May 2. Devils Sinkhole is located near Rock Springs, Texas, approximately 2 hours west of San Antonio. I would like to enter the cave in the early to mid morning. You must have your own vertical gear, know how to use it. Be able to change from rappelling to ascending and back to rappelling (be able to do a change over) and not have a fear of heights (the drop is 145 feet). This should not be your first or even second vertical cave. I'm looking for more experienced folks - thank you. You must also follow decontamination procedures in that all of your equipment must be clean and decontaminated before you arrive on the property. You must also be willing to sign a release to enter the cave. If you are interested, please send me an email at gschin...@edwardsaquifer.org Thanks, Geary M. Schindel
