Believe me, as TSA secretary, I know! I don't know what people expect from
volunteers or why they like to complain so much. Human nature I guess.

Yeah, this is totally out of character for her, but then again, I do
have a habit of bringing up things most people don't like and maybe I
rubbed her wrong at the business meeting. I know you weren't trying
to kick the nest, but some where taking it that way, since you are
posting updates, etc. That's why I stepped in and tried to put a few
people in their place.

Ah well, can't make everyone happy :)

Wow, what's Julie's problem!?

I think she wants to be deleted from CaveTex and, probably, needs to be.

I didn't know or intend to kick a hornets nest. I thought announcing more
material in the Members Area was a good thing!

I wonder if Jerry Atkinson and Julie are somehow related? Or are they simply a
couple of curmudgeons?

Jerry I always knew to be one, Julie surprises me. She's always been really
nice. I wonder if something isn't going on with her personal life.

Anyway, you're doing a great job and don't change a thing with Cavetex. I guess
a couple of folks (Julie and Jerry) thought things were too quiet and had to
stir things up a bit.

It's one thing to bitch and moan about what someone wrote and another to
think that you need to be the censor for the list serve. I find you
very restrained as I'm sure that it is far harder to not intervene
sometimes. Then again, you can always censor the folks that complain
too much.

Anyway, I've always thought that the folks that run these lists are
saints and receive no credit for the incredible service they provide. I
really they help to foster a region wide caving community.

Yes, you're my unsung hero.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

I should be pro-active? Why should I spend my time moderating a list,
when it takes someone less than 1 second to delete an email.

I spend enough time maintaining, replying to questions, and paying for
the infrastructure behind this server, why should I spend even more
time policing adults?

You wouldn't like me moderating, and I'm sure it would drive a lot of
people away.

Thank you, but I'll pass. I volunteer enough of my time here and
while many people thank me, many more just complain about how they
want things changed.

2009-05-15 Thread Fritz Holt
Charles,
We all appreciate your making this venue available to us.
As far as paper vs. electronic, I can understand why a younger, dedicated caver
may want to establish an original hard copy collection for posterity. I wish
that I still had all of The Caver issues which I received in the mid fifties.
We are all enthusiastic about caves, caving and the environment. However, while
I would prefer to receive the hard copies, it makes no sense to me to waste all
of the dollars consumed by printing and mailing when they could go towards
something more tangible and beneficial. It's not as if we didn't have access to
the same material.

Jerry, you are wrong on both accounts, not printing every member a
copy and allowing us to view it on a computer and saving paper is
being responsible. Plus the TSA doesn't have to pay to print and mail
it out, so that is fiscally responsible.

You have a right to your opinion, doesn't mean its the correct one. I

[Texascavers] TSA Members Area Update - More TC's Are Now Online!

2009-05-12 Thread Mark . Alman

All,

I'm pleased to announce that Carl Kunath has been gracious enough to submit
three back issues of the TEXAS CAVER from 2001, 2002, and 2004 and Butch Fralia
has dutifully posted them to the Members Area of the TSA Website for your
reading pleasure.

There's some great reading from the past in these issues. Stories such as the
purchase of the Deep and Punkin Cave property, a daring rescue of an injured
caver in Mexico, CARTOONS!, and a lot of past history and articles from present
day cavers and from some who, unfortunately, aren't with us any longer.

Hours of great reading have been added and I would like to thank Carl for
submitting them and Butch for posting them for posterity.

Not to mention, the 2nd quarter 2009 issue of the TEXAS CAVER will be posted
very soon, maybe, by this weekend!

This is looking to be a huge issue (36 pages), chock full of LOTS of photos and
just in time for ICS!

If you're a TSA member, but haven't yet joined the Digital Revolution, it is
extremely painless to do so. Go to http://www.cavetexas.org/members/ and sign
up and enjoy the back issues!
Please remember to select how you want your TC: mail or digital.
You can still opt to receive the TC in the mail, or you can do your part to be
environmentally and fiscally responsible, while sticking it to the USPS and
their recently adopted rate increase by opting to go digital!
The Members Area continues to expand very well and we currently have grown to
well over 80 members. This is over 40% of the total membership.

Not a TSA member? No problem! We still would like for you to contemplate
becoming a TSA member. Send me an email for your complimentary TEXAS CAVER and
see what you've been missing.
Or, you can visit the TSA website at www.cavetexas.org and become a paid member
and/or become an online member of the TSA.
There now are a total of 14 back issues available for your reading pleasure!

Enjoy!

Mark Alman - TSA Chairman and TEXAS CAVER Editor
