I totally have to disagree with the idea of buying an external device to accomplish this feat. I mean, I did it with only a very good turntable, a decent preamplifier and a computer containing a fairly good sound card. The results were indistinguishable from the original. Most new sound cards are capable of converting audio into digital at a rate of 50Khz with 24bit resolution - settings I made the recordings with. About 6 years ago, I reported on Cavetex that I had copied some of my vinyl LP's onto my computer's hard-drive using a free program I had found on the internet. http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/ Unfortunately, I never used it much after that. There are many ways now to get your music off of an old LP and into your IPOD or other gadget. Supposedly, the trick in getting a good sound transfer is to not use a computer, but to either purchase a $ 500 TEAC CD-LP recorder, or purchase an "external" sound card and a really good turntable. The cheapest route seems to be the download above, plus a cheap turntable, and a pre-amp going into your computers sound card. I still think it could be a lot easier, such as straight from the LP to your portable gadget. I believe the old Sony Walkman Mini-disc recorder had that capability, but I never confirmed it. I still listen to my vinyl records. Most of mine are rock from the mid-70's. I have all of the Bill Wither's albums, Gerry Rafferty, Jim Croce, Kiss, and occasionally I will a vinyl record at Half-Price Books, if it is in excellent condition and semi-rare. I hope someday, I can get all my favorite music on a portable gadget. My new gadget I am posting about ( N800 ) is supposed to have a good music player in it. As a bit of a follow up to my ravings about vinyl. After hooking up the large amp to the big speakers and playing some classic Frank Zappa (Holiday in Berlin, Regyptian Strut) at very high decibel levels - I must digress Digital Sounds Good Too. -WaV
