[ot_caving] Hybrid car news.

2008-12-08 Thread David
I saw a Hybrid Chevy Malibu driving down the road in Houston today.
I am pretty sure
this car isn't yet available in Texas. My best guess is that it
was a 2009 model because
the license plate said "MANUFACTURER," instead of "DEALER."

Although I poke fun at American made cars, I do hope this car is
successful. I rented
a 2007 Malibu and it was a nice ride.

There are still a few hybrids that I have not yet seen at the dealer.

1.Saturn Aura
2.Nissan Altima
3.Cadillac Escalade

And there are several that I have only seen in dealer show rooms and
never actually
on the road.

1.2007 Chevy Silverado Truck
2.Lexus GS 450 sedan.
3.Lexus LS 600 sedan.

Honda claims it is bringing back the Insight next year in a 4 door model:

It looks too much like a Prius.

Based on my years of experience with my 2002 Insight, I don't think I would
recommend the new one to people who need inexpensive transportation.
However, I bet it is going
to be a good car for a small family that does a lot of commuting, and probably
more practical than my 2007 Honda Fit.

Ford is claiming that the 2009 model of the Escape Hybrid is better
than the 2008.
It will go 40 miles per hour on just electricity instead of 30.It
has much better brakes,
and a tiny bit more power.

If you already own a Prius, how about modifying its aerodynamics for
better MPG on the highway:

[ot_caving] hybrid car news

I saw a Chevy Malibu ( hybrid ) driving down the road yesterday.

I knew Chevy had plans to build one, but thought they only planned
on selling them in the California area.

It has the same hybrid label as the Saturn Vue Hybrid. But not the big
bold letters on the side like the Tahoe is supposed to have.

There was a story on line today, that some girls are attracted to men
who drive hybrids. That may be the case in the Pacific Northwest,
but I doubt it will ever catch on in Houston. Here in Houston, you
have to drive a high dollar convertible sports car, to get a girl to turn her
head, a Beamer or Lexus will get you a yawn, and any normal car will
just about get you the loser sign.

Fortunately, I seldom go to Houston anymore.

Speaking of my favorite brand of foreign automobile, while I haven't checked
the fuel efficiency or if an optional engine is available, the new Honda CRV
sport utility is about the slickest looking vehicle of its kind. Believe it or
not, while possibly a bit larger, the new Saturn Vue SUV is also one sharp
looking vehicle. What's your take, David?

Honda confirmed today that late next year the Honda Fit will be
arriving in the showrooms with a hybrid model.

President Fukui also indicated that 2 other hybrid models would
be available - a sport performance car and along with the 2nd
generation of the hybrid Civic.

He said for certain that Honda would not explore plug-in Hybrids
in the near future and subtly indicated that Honda would stick
to nickel-metal hydride batteries.

Volkswagen reacted by dropping their plans to make a hybrid
vehicle anytime soon. Rumor is VW felt their customers where
not going to pay the huge addtional cost for the vehicle, especially
when consumers could choose a less expensive reliable Honda.

[ot_caving] hybrid car news

2008-05-06 Thread David
There are rumors floating around now that the electromagnetic field
inside the car of a hybrid
vehicle will cause leukemia in children.

Are there any physicist out there that can
verify that there could possibly be a strong
electromagnetic field in a hybrid car.

What about in a 100 percent electric car?

Can anybody verify that electromagnetic
fields cause damage to the iron in the blood
or some other side effect?

[ot_caving] hybrid car news

2008-01-30 Thread David Locklear
According to this article there are only 3 hybrid test cars on the road
capable of using 85 percent ethanol ( E85 ).

http://www.world-wire.com/news/0706140001.html

Since the article is 6 months old, the remaining 17 vehicles may already
be on the road now.

However, they are not available to the public, and I don't see anywhere
on the web were such a car will be available in the next 2 or 3 years.

It wouldn't do anybody any good down here in Texas, as I still have
not seen an E85 pump.

On a related note,

Did you see that the price of chickens went up yesterday. This is
all because of the lack of supply of corn feed which is going into E85
production instead.
