[Therion] Pocket Topo Shot Direction question

2015-01-26 Thread Footleg
Thank you Beat. That explains why I have never seen it in my data. I have
not yet flipped an extended elevation in PocketTopo. Now I can update my
cave converter to handle text export files with these characters knowing
what they are for.

I had an enquiry as to what this converter tool was I an talking about.
Details can be found here for those who are interested:

[Therion] Pocket Topo Shot Direction question

2015-01-26 Thread Beat Heeb
The ‘<’ character after the trip number means the extended elevation runs
to the left.

Without the character it runs to the right.

Thanks. So I think I may have suspected that this option was the cause of the
problem I was investigating. But it sounds like it is not related. What I am
actually trying to work out is what is causing the text export file from a
PocketTopo survey someone sent me to include a < character between the trip
number [1] and the comment in double quotes. I've not seen this in any text
files exported before, and I need to know what it indicates so I can update the
parser in my cave converter program.

[Therion] Pocket Topo Shot Direction question

2015-01-26 Thread Martin Sluka
Typical situation one may use this feature is when a station is inaccessible.
So you measure from station A to station B in normal direction. And from
station C to B next shot. You may manually change the order of stations from
B->C to C->B. But you should do it three times. Much easier is to use reverse
shot function.

The direction used for the extended elevation is set by the ‘Flip’ command
in the drawing context menu.

This completely independent of the shot direction set by the ‘Shot ->’

[Therion] Pocket Topo Shot Direction question

2015-01-25 Thread Beat Heeb
Hi Footleg

The command has two meanings depending on what kind of data it is used:

If used on a simple measurement from the current station (7.7 -> , if the
current station is 7.7),

it turns the measurement into a survey shot using the next station name (7.7 ->
7.8).

If used on a survey shot (7.7 -> 7.8) it swaps the station names (to 7.8 ->
7.7). This reverses the

direction of the shot.

The direction shown in the menu (Shot -> or Shot <-) indicates the new
direction used. It depends

on the ‘Reverse’ option when used on a simple measurement and on the
current direction

when used on a shot.

So it is used 1) to turn a measurement into a shot if you do not want to make
three measurements

for some reason, and 2) if you occasionally measure a shot in the non-standard
direction and quickly

want to fix it.

Regards

Beat
