Re: [tw] TW 2.8.1 (June 23, 2013) - Save broken in Firefox, on linux

2013-08-15 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Lyall

I've not come across the problem of the closing head tag and opening body
tag being removed. Can you replicate that behaviour with a vanilla
TiddlyWiki?

Annoyingly we can't disable left clicking on the download link.

With respect to having stopped using TiddlyFox, it is still the recommended
way to save TiddlyWiki files locally. What's preventing you from using it?

Best wishes

Jeremy

I recently upgraded to 2.8.1 as firefox security has finally caught up

The save does not work, for me, because the saved file does not include
 the following bolded lines.

 !--POST-HEAD-START--

 !--POST-HEAD-END--
 */head
 body onload=main(); onunload=if(window.unload) unload();*
 !--PRE-BODY-START--

 !--PRE-BODY-END--

If I copy these two lines back into the newly saved tiddlywiki, the new
 file will work.

I have not tested to see if this is caused by some of my plugins, yet.

Accidentally left clicking the save link seems to cause almost
catastrophic failures, I am wondering if we can somehow disable left clicks
 on this link.

I also note that the right click seems to take ages to respond.

I have disabled the tiddlyfox plugin, as that no longer seems to perform
the function I installed it for.

Maybe I am simply overlooking something?

Re: [tw] TW 2.8.1 (June 23, 2013) - Save broken in Firefox, on linux

2013-08-15 Thread Lyall
Hmm..

Linux, Gentoo, 64 bit Intel (amd64)

Firefox 17.0.8 (latest versions are not current in Gentoo due to
compilation issues).

Using a freshly downloaded empty.html, no problems.

I open 'empty' and 'import' all the tiddlers from my tiddlywiki (around a
1000 of them, at a guess) and things go wrong.

I have tried disabling ALL plugins and the problem persists - even though
my tiddlywiki *appears* quite broken, it still functions.

I have 36 active plugins under normal circumstances. See attached list of
plugins.

It's not a huge loss, I know what I have to do each time I save.

The utility of TiddlyWiki is starting to fade with the tightening up of
browser security, at least for me. If I can't overcome this, it's just
another nail in the coffin and pushes me one one step closer to an
alternative, with TiddlyWiki being relegated to a reference only
information source, until I have completed the transition. This is a pity,
I have always loved the ability to manage my own data on a USB key, or
access it from my web hosting or use it on my work PC, without having to
have anything extra installed.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

There is still some discussion going on about the new TW5 markup language.
IMO it is not settled enough, to convert all your TWclassic content to TW5.
It also depends on plugin you use with TWc. There may be no equivalent in

[tw] How to do CSS for text in triple curlies

Re: [tw] get title of current tiddler

2013-08-15 Thread Jeremy Ruston

I am insert in tiddler text $view field=title/, this is OK.

But my idea do not work.

 {{{ [tag[TagName1]]+[tag[TagName2]] }}} - OK
 {{{ [tag[$view field=title/]]+[tag[TagName2]] }}} - do not work

Ah, it looks like you are trying to generate a list of all tiddlers that
are tagged with the current tiddler and also by TagName2. Is that right?

If so, it can be accomplished like this:

{{{ [tag{!!title}tag[TagName2]] }}}

a) inner curly braces in a filter operator cause the operand to be
retrieved from the specified tiddler text reference
b) the !!title text reference refers to the title of the current tiddler

Let me know how you get on,

Best wishes

Jeremy

Re: [tw] Chromium

2013-08-15 Thread Simon Harper
Thanks for this Jeremy, sorry to not thank you immediately but I've been on
Holiday.

On Friday, 2 August 2013 17:15:47 UTC+1, Jeremy Ruston wrote:

 Hi Simon

You're not doing anything wrong, the behaviour you're seeing is the
fallback HTML5-compatible saver. It allows TW5 to save changes on almost
any browser, without using non-standard features, but with the disadvantage
that rather than saving the file back to it's original location, instead it
downloads the new copy of the file. As you've found, the end result is that
you accumulate many *.html files in your downloads folder. Sometimes that
may be what you want - each file acts as an intermediate backup. However,
it's usually more convenient to switch Chrome's settings so that it always
prompts for the location of downloaded files. With that option selected,
clicking the save button in TW5 presents the file save dialogue, which
makes it easy to select the existing file and then hit return to overwrite
 it.

 Anyhow, all these shenanigans are far from convenient for regular usage;
depending on the browser there are a number of other options:

 * With Firefox (incuding Firefox for Android) you can use the TiddlyFox
 extension (
 https://github.com/TiddlyWiki/TiddlyFox/raw/master/tiddlyfox.xpi) to
allow you to save changes directly

 * On the iPad/iPhone, use the TWEdit app to view and edit TiddlyWiki5
 documents

 * Run TiddlyWiki5 under node.js as a local web server, so that you can use
 any browser

 * I hope to create a Chrome extension similar to TiddlyFox. Chrome doesn't
let extensions directly access the file system, instead it will be confined
to loading and saving files from a sandbox stored within Chrome.

So, the idea is to provide a solid, generic fallback for saving that will
work in most circumstances, and a bunch of platform specific plugins to
make saving slicker where we can.

 Best wishes

[tw] Braintags update

2013-08-15 Thread David Gifford
Hi everyone

I just updated the braintags adaptation of TiddlyWiki classic:
http://www.giffmex.org/braintags.html

One issue that came up was that tiddlers with date and time stamps as
titles came up in searches as just that, giving the user no clue as to the
tiddlers' contents.

Thanks to Gottfried Nemec's help it now has a new search window that shows
results in a tiddler but also gives you snippets of the tiddler content.
Plugins have now been hidden from the search results, too.

[tw] Re: Braintags update

2013-08-15 Thread David Gifford
There are quite a number of things that TW 5 would need before it could do
what braintags can:

1. The text wrapping in the quickedittoolbar
2. A newTiddler button that creates a tiddler already tagged with a tag
(for the new note button)
3. A newTiddler button that creates a tiddler that has a preset text inside
of it, inserting a tiddlerfilter based on the title of that filter (for the
new index button)
4. Searching with preview snippets
5. A way to do a filtered search for tag names
6. There is a word cloud plugin demo for 5, but it would need to be able to
access the tags of a TW in order to create the tag cloud
7. Perhaps a newHere button in the viewtemplate
8. A way so that tagging a tiddler automatically creates tiddlers for any
tag names that aren't currently tiddlers
9. A way so that tiddler indexes that are created get added to the list of
tags.

As it stands, TW 5 lets you move from parent to child tiddler by creating a
list field in, say, MyTiddler, then populating the list field with tiddler
titles, and then adding {{{[list[MyTiddler]]}}} to the MyTiddler text to
see the tiddlers listed by that tiddler. Long complicated process.

And TW 5 lets you move up from child to parent by tagging tiddlers with
their parent category, then in the dropdown from the tag button, accessing
or creating their parent tiddler.

But upwards and downwards don't precisely meet in the middle because one is
using lists and the other is using tags.

Ideally there would be a way for listing and tagging to meet in the middle
so that you can create and move completely up and down the chains.

Maybe list should be subcats because lists are really lists of
subcategories, and tagging should be renamed parentcats because it is a
list of parent categories, and sideways or siblings relations should be
done by linking and referencing within tiddlers, and by seeing what other
children are tagged by the parent of that child and what other parents list
the same child.

At this point what you can do in TW5, Yitzhak, is create notes by simply
creating tiddlers and tagging them.

And create indexes by creating tiddlers, titling them and then inserting
this in the text, replacing XXX in the filter below with the title of the
tiddler:

-
$list filter=[tag[XXX]]
! $view field=title format=link/
!! $view field=description format=wikified/
$view field=text format=wikified/
-
/$list

 Hi everyone

I just updated the braintags adaptation of TiddlyWiki classic:
 http://www.giffmex.org/braintags.html

One issue that came up was that tiddlers with date and time stamps as
titles came up in searches as just that, giving the user no clue as to the
 tiddlers' contents.

Thanks to Gottfried Nemec's help it now has a new search window that
shows results in a tiddler but also gives you snippets of the tiddler
content. Plugins have now been hidden from the search results, too.

[tw] Re: Braintags update

2013-08-15 Thread David Gifford
Actually, insert

-
$list filter=[is[current]tagging[]]
! $view field=title format=link/
!! $view field=description format=wikified/
$view field=text format=wikified/
-
/$list

So you don't even have to replace XXX with the tiddler title.

Yitzakh, here is the closest I can come in TW 5 right now to braintags:

Re: [tw] Re: New: SharedTiddlersPlugin (evolution of IncludePlugin)

2013-08-15 Thread Scott Simmons

Thanks. I hope that this year it will become about 50% more cool again :)
reloading is on its way, and some other features as well, but the
development doesn't go very fast.. may be I even have to redesign some
 internals once again.

Slow and steady wins the race. ;) It's certainly taken me long enough to
catch up to you as a user, and I don't mind waiting for updates, especially
when the current version suits my needs so well.

Ok, I can see where the problem can be from. Try this: grab the full-code
version of STP [1] and substitute the line

 includeURL = w.tiddler.getIncludeURL(),

 with the line

 includeURL = w.tiddler ? w.tiddler.getIncludeURL() : ,

and let me know the result. Or you can send me a TW you have trouble with
 to me directly.

That worked beautifully for me at first — until I had multiple TWs with
SharedTiddlersPlugin enabled open at the same time. When that occurs, I
get a slightly different alert:

http://tiddlywiki.secret-hq.com/images/screenshots/TiddlyWiki%20SharedTiddlersPlugin%20errors/search_PrettyLinkHijackWithNodeError.png

I may have introduced a new bug on my end. To manage
config.options.STP_hijackPrettyLink and
config.options.STP_hijackImageFormatter, I created two option checkboxes —
chkLetSTPHijackPrettyLinks and chkLetSTPHijackImageFormatter, respectively.
Then I check and set the main values with this line before your code:

config.options.STP_hijackPrettyLink =
config.options.chkLetSTPHijackPrettyLinks;config.options.STP_hijackImageFormatter
 = config.options.chkLetSTPHijackImageFormatter;

(The idea was to insulate your values from my cookies so I could turn off
or delete my cookies if you used something different later on. Of course,
that introduces the possibility that I've screwed something up.)

Maybe there's a conflict somewhere between the cookies being set by these
options?

I'll try overriding them by hard-coding the values for
config.options.STP_hijackPrettyLink and
config.options.STP_hijackImageFormatter and report back. (But if anyone
spots anything bone-headed about my scheme itself, please chime in and let
me know.)

As for the trouble with the [[tiddler]]@node syntax, I didn't really get
what happens/doesn't happen. May be you can attach a couple of TWs with
 minimum tiddlers reproducing the problem?
(describeNode macro can be used inline, but I consider that as rather bad
practice -- it was introduced in first place to be able to use one nodeName
in several places, so the definition should be elsewhere, in IncludeList)

In putting together a test case to show you, I saw the problem. It wasn't
my syntax -- but it was some ham-fisted TiddlyWiking on my part. :(

My inline node definition was enclosed in /% and %/ as part of the
definitions of a tab set. E.g.:

tabs txtTabSetTabs tab1 first tab [[ThisTiddler##MyTab]] etc.
/%
!MyTab

describeNode nodeName index.htmlSee [[this
link|ThatTiddler]]@nodeName for details.
%/

... which is why I was seeing the error: The node definition wasn't being
set because it was hidden from display and wikification! (When the section
it was contained within was displayed in the tab set, the link and text got
wikified fine, but the node definition doesn't get wikified in that context
and was undefined. (Hence the error.)

Of course, this is handily avoided by defining all nodes in IncludeList. :P

Re: [tw] Re: New: SharedTiddlersPlugin (evolution of IncludePlugin)

2013-08-15 Thread Scott Simmons
Since the alert is only showing up with ImageFormatter hijacking, I decided
to look at PrettyLink hijacking (which never throws an error) and see what
the differences were.

The function associated with PrettyLink hijacking allows for null/undefined
values:

includeURL = w.tiddler ? w.tiddler.getIncludeURL() : null,

... but the ImageFormatter hijacking function only allows for empty sets:

includeURL = w.tiddler ? w.tiddler.getIncludeURL() : ,

I'm updating that line in the ImageFormatter hijack function to match the
one in the PrettyLink hijacking function to see if that does away with the
mysterious alert. :)
