Re: [tw] Re: Anyway to improve the speed of TW5?

2014-04-04 Thread Jeremy Ruston
One question, would it be possible to temporary disable the Show Preview
feature in the New Tiddler screen? I think the refresh is for the
instant preview feature right?

Well, the refresh cycle is how all UI updates are handled, and it's the
trigger for syncing to the server. As noted above, there is definitely an
opportunity to avoid doing it on every keypress, as well as opportunities
to optimise the performance of the refresh cycle itself.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Hi Jimmy

There are indeed performance issues with TW5 that I am addressing at the
moment.

The underlying issue is that the refresh mechanism is a bit suboptimal
in the way that it processes filters, to the extent that filter processing
can comprise 80% of the refresh cycle time.

BJ's plugin works by deferring the expensive refresh cycle so that it
doesn't occur on every keypress. Adding a variant of that mechanism is the
get out of jail card for these performance issues: we know from BJ's work
that it is possible to avoid running the refresh cycle on every keypress.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

It might be a good idea to try to make sure you don't have a long list
of tiddlers displayed in the sidebar. Certain selections on the More tab
seem to cause some of the delays during refresh. Selecting the Open tab
might be a good option.

[tw] TW5 and node.js on Ubuntu 13.10

2014-04-04 Thread Tomáš Greif
Today I tried to install TiddlyWiki on Node.js on Ubuntu 13.10.

Because I am not sure where to put this so it becomes part of documentation
permanently, here are the steps:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install nodejs npm
$ sudo npm install -g tiddlywiki
$ sudo ln -s /usr/bin/nodejs /usr/bin/node
$ tiddlywiki mynewwiki --init server

How do I put this on github? It says that readme.md was generated
automatically by TydlliWiki so I guess I can't just create a new pull
request?

Re: [tw] TW5 $edit field=title/ results in new tiddlers

2014-04-04 Thread Danielo Rodríguez
Hello Jeremy,

I tried your solution and fixes some problems, but now I have to face two
new issues:

 - *The field is, by default, empty . Here is what I tried:
 - $edit-text field=draft.title default=/
 - Typing again the same name for the tiddler results in a blank tiddler
 - After saving the tiddler a tw-navigate event is triggered.

Thank you very much.

Hi Danielo

The edit widget works by rewriting the current tiddler with the new field
value at every keypress. The effect of rewriting it with a different title
will be to leave the tiddler with the old title intact, hence the
proliferation of tiddlers that you're seeing. We should probably detect
attempts to edit the title field and prevent it.

Rather than editing the title field directly, the approach TiddlyWiki uses
is to edit the draft.of field of draft tiddlers, and then have the
tw-save-tiddler message in the navigator widget save the tiddler under
that title. You can see how it's done in the core edit template.

Best wishes

Jeremy

include ../airbank_tw/index.html filters:
[tag[AirbankProspectPackage]] import:4 ...

Is there a way to speed up the process? Maybe be grouping lines with more
clever filter, but I could no find the right syntax...

Such a usage of the macro is not optimal. Although the TW is only loaded
once, on the first macro call (it's the STP behaviour), this still makes
some extra work. The most slowing factor, as I've mentioned, should be the
multiple refreshing, but even if you use the noRefresh param, this syntax:

include ../airbank_tw/index.html filters:[tag[AirbankBlankPackage]]
[tag[AirbankCataloguePackage]]
[tag[AirbankContactPackage]] [tag[AirbankProspectPackage]] import:4noParam

should provide more optimal behaviour (@Eric: yes, STP does use
store.filterTiddlers, and in this particular case the usage of OR is
something excessive, but the regexp version looks nicely).

Without usage of the noRefresh param this would increase the speed
significantly (again, because of less refreshing).

Best regards,
Yakov.

SharedTiddlersPlugin probably uses the TWCore's store.filterTiddlers()
function to select the desired tiddlers by tag value. If this is the case,
then you should be able to install:
http://www.TiddlyTools.com/#MatchTagsPlugin

which extends the TWCore filterTiddlers() handling to enable matching
combinations of tag values, using *boolean* operators (AND,OR,NOT, and
parentheses as needed). For example, you could write this one line:
include ../airbank_tw/index.html filters:[tag[AirbankBlankPackage OR
AirbankCataloguePackage OR AirbankContactPackage OR
[tag[AirbankProspectPackage]] import:16
You can even use text patterns (regular expressions) within the tag
values, like this:
include ../airbank_tw/index.html filters:[tag[Airbank.*Package]]
import:16
which will match tag values that start with Airbank and end with
Package with any other text in between.

By using MatchTagsPlugin to combine the filters for the same file, you
should be able to save some overhead time: it won't re-read the same file
contents multiple times, and there's only one loop through the tiddlers to
filter them.

Let me know if it helps...

enjoy,

[tw] Re: [TWC] tagging on importing with SharedTiddlersPlugin

2014-04-04 Thread Yakov
Hello Julien,

this is not currently implemented. I have a use-case where this would be
nice, too. But I don't want to implement this using a simple approach like
addTag param or something like, because another time, it will be nice to
remove some tag/tags, or add a field value or ... So, what should be
implemented is something like onTiddlerLoad param that eats JavaScript
that does some changes to the tiddler. Though, actually, syncing should
be implemented in another way, using special import mode(s) that would
set a date of syncing field to a tiddler and take into account dates of
syncing and dates of modification of the tiddler versions in two
TiddlyWikis.

But, to be honest, this is not a top priority dev tasks for the moment.
Currently, STP is in the process of core refactoring that would allow
different things like consistent search through all nodes (TWs) and also
better performance, clearer priority/conflicts logic and more compact
code. And, unfortunatelly, STP itself isn't the top priority development
for me now (I have to finish docs and publish an update of
ForEachTiddlerPlugin and some cool addons for it).

On the other hand, I don't get your idea about tagging. You add the projA
tag to show that it's interesting for the project A. But in this case,
what's the point of tagging it projB automatically? May be just tag it
shared A+B or smth like that? I mean, what's the difference between
tagging shared A+B at once and tagging projA and then -- autotagging
projB? Does your model have something to do with multiple TWs? If that's
the case, you can tag your tiddlers with both projA and projB at once,
without waiting them to be imported. Or not?

Best regards,
Yakov.

Hi,

I have a tiddler ComplaintMap with this in it:

[img[bodyDiagram.jpg]]imageMap ComplaintMapMap

and ComplaintMapMap has this:

Right Ear
58,94,53,106,66,130,73,130,75,126,74,101,65,95,58,94

When I click on the ear in the picture, the Right Ear tiddler opens,
but it opens as if its a newly made tiddler, even if the real [[Right
Ear]] tiddler is open.

The weird thing is that the tiddlers I open and edit in the example in
ImageMapPluginInfo
behaves normally, i.e. links open the proper tiddlers.

Any suggestions?
