Hi Tony, please see my reply detailing my expectation on selection of
multiple lines ^^,

I expect a different behavior when a linebreak or blank is between two
rows.

Re: [tw5] Re: New goody for Stroll - outliner

2020-08-13 Thread TW Tones
JD,

Almost correct I think.

   - There already is a button to add "*" to selected lines.
   - Please don't add * to selected "blank" lines with a tab.
   - I want "a tab on a blank line to, 'add a tab' ", this is more
intuitive anyway. Then Saq's solution would mean enter gives the next line
with the same number of tabs on the previous line, just as it does with one
   or more * or #

[tw5] Help with Bookmarklet links

2020-08-13 Thread TW Tones
Folks,
If you place this in a tiddler,

 Reset Dirty

Clicking on the resulting link will reset the dirty flag on a wiki, turning
the red save wiki button grey.

   - This allows you to close the tab without the save prompt, or close you
browser without that wiki insisting you save.
   - This link can ba dragged and dropped in your bookmarks, or Favourites
and click from there will do the same for any tiddlywiki in your browsers
   current tab.

This is a bookmarklet, and I believe many more would prove useful to the
community

However I have found the following problems

   - #1 How can I store the javascript in another tiddler or field and have
a variable or text reference to embed in in the link?
   see here in this below;

 Reset Dirty

   - #2 I would like to do this also when the javascript includes quotes "
   and double quotes ""
   - #3 How can I somehow provide this bookmarklets in a Google Forum post?
  - Such they can be dragged and dropped to bookmarks/favourites?

Why?

   - I would like to share such bookmarkletts more freely
   - I would like to load some bookmarlets with a larger payload and want
   to store it seperatly
   - I want to build an easy to use bookmarklet tiddler

Thanks in advance for any possible suggestions

Regards
Tones

[tw5] Re: Hosting NodeJs version of site (not stripped down)

2020-08-13 Thread Garrett
I was able to get the TiddlyWiki full-fledged site from a node version ->
static with the tiddlywiki _name_ --build command. Having no problem
hosting that. My only step left now is figuring out how to disable the
control and editing functions on the static --build version.

I know that the following CSS will work to disable what I need:

.tc-tiddler-controls {
   display: none;
}

.tc-tab-buttons {
   display: none;
}

But I'm unsure how to get that CSS run only on the --build version and not
on the development --listen server automatically.

Re: [tw5] Re: New goody for Stroll - outliner

2020-08-13 Thread E Browns
Ooh, but a plus on what Tony said, of a smarter detection.

Maybe...

`
# item
# item
object
`

When row 2 and 3 are selected then [tab] will produce

`
# item
## item
# object
`

But a linebreak separation will default it to an asterisk? Where the
selection of row 2, [linebreak] and row4 here:

`
# item
# item

object
`

Will produce

`
# item
## item

 * object
`

The expected will be that [tab] will consider the row above it, defaulting
to * if the above row is blank, and defaulting to [linebreak] * if the
above row is not blank but does not contain (# or *)... Where [linebreak]
will facilitate list wikification.

So how it considers what to add when above row begins with (# or *)...
Maybe like this?

Samples on row2 and row3 selection...

`
# item
#* item
object
`

Becomes

`
# item
#** item
# object
`

And

`
# item
#* item
#* object
`

Becomes

`
# item
#** item
#** object
`
I wonder if others have the same expectations?

Garette

Also look at using read-only theme or other method before export.

This is a template used to generate static html from the tiddlers, you can
modify this to change the nature of the exported pages.

   - I am keen to have one that creates static tiddler pages on which any
links open not the other static versions but the full html giving
   interactive features.

With the new zip plugin in the next version this may automated to a high
degree.

[tw5] Re: New goody for Stroll - outliner

2020-08-13 Thread TW Tones
David,

Thanks for helping us keep up with Saq's prolific work.

Saq,

I would see adding "*tabs*" into the editors and wikification process of
tiddlywiki a great improvement.
Of course the handling of tabs is almost identical to this bullet solution
just they are invisible.
Deciding on a standard tab size in view and edit or allow customisation?
Using https://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css3_pr_tab-size.asp css may be
sufficient.

The question now is how do we do this given tab is used for bullets in this
solution?

Perhaps a smart tab, if # * etc proceeds it add/remove a # *
If no character or tab then add/remove an actual tab?

Regards
Tony

[tw5] Re: New goody for Stroll - outliner

2020-08-13 Thread Saq Imtiaz
@bimlas @JD

Assuming the following selection, would you expect the line that does not
start with a * or # to be indented as well?

# It's a fez.
# I wear a fez now.
# Fezzes are cool.
Bow ties are cool.

Similarly should the following be indented on tab, or not:

It's a fez.
I wear a fez now.

My feeling is that any line selected should be indented/unindented,
regardless of whether it is already part of a list. But what should the
default list type be, * for unordered list?

[tw5] Hosting NodeJs version of site (not stripped down)

2020-08-13 Thread Garrett
Hi there!

New to TiddlyWiki but extremely excited about the potential! I'm interested
in exporting my TiddlyWiki site from the NodeJs version into a replica
static website that can be hosted online (full JS, CSS, and HTML).

Currently, I'm running the wiki snapshot scripts here

 to
export the site, but I don't like how simplified down the static version is.

My end goal is to basically host online my TiddlyWiki editor version with
the controls/buttons turned off.

Would appreciate any help or pointing in the right direction!

Hi Jan,

<$action-setfield> can do it!

<$action-setfield $tiddler="indexbase" $index="fruit" $value=""/> will set

It should be possible to do this in Wikitext, but is there a more direct

Thanks for considering it, Saq! It will make for a more wonderful workflow,
mobile-wise.

I agree it might produce interferences while editting. Maybe while the node
is not in edit mode? Or maybe just along the left margin right outside the
textbox? Whatever the implementation might be I'd love to try it!

Thanks again, i'll also look into the issue you linked!

[tw5] Re: New goody for Stroll - outliner

2020-08-13 Thread Saq Imtiaz
@bimlas I expected that this would be preferred over Streams by some, and
that's a good thing. Streams shouldn't be used just for easier
indenting/unindenting lists.

This was a very quick regexp based hack as a result of a reddit thread I
came across where they had tried to implement something similar by means of
buttons:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TiddlyWiki5/comments/hufvs9/automatically_continue_bullet_list/

The actual code is here:
https://saqimtiaz.github.io/sq-tw/editor-autolists.html#%24%3A%2Fplugins%2Fsq%2Feditor-autolist%2Feditor-operation-autolist

Its rough and not pretty. But I do think this could be extended to handle
indenting selected lines. From what I remember I just ignored the selection
when I wrote this.

Feel free to give it a go if you feel like it bimlas, otherwise I'll try to
clean up the code and implement this when I can find the time.
Cheers,

Saq

2020-08-13 Thread Birthe C
Thank you so much, Mark and Bimlas for your information about Vivaldi.

Glad you wrote so detailed, Bimlas, then I'll know at least a little about
what to do and what to expect.

In case you are wondering about all my questions around the group, I am
reinstalling 20 older computers with different linux os'es ...according to
cpu and ram. Yesterday I got to the slow 2 models and tried MX Linux.
Chocked it ran rather well ;-) One of the options to install was Vivaldi. I
did not do that...but was reminded, that I will get it for my own second
hand computer, when I get to that one. The last in the potsomething to
look forward to.
Tiddlywiki has been a tremendous help in this adventure. I had it on a usb
stick, and could write detailed about every system as I found the relevant
information - and refind when needed for another computer. The next owner
will find a tiddlywiki on the drive with needed information about the
system.
Searching the net, reading and watching youtubestrying something
new...that is what keeps it interesting enough to get through them all.
(Cross your fingers).

Hi Tony

I did manage to solve my problem.

I created a button which selects the required tiddlers by tag, and then for
each tiddler it copies the wikified content of the text field to a new
field. Then when I export the tiddlers as a csv I have a column with the
plain text as required.
Seems to work fine.

Thanks for your interest.

[tw5] Tiddlyserver portable install

2020-08-13 Thread Rob Jopling
Apologies if this has been covered in previous posts. I have tried to find
the answers.

I am trying to create a portable install of Tiddlyserver that I can use on
my Android tablet.

I have followed Arlen's instructions and have a created a portable install
in a folder called Tiddlyserver on my Windows 10 pc. I have used the
settings.json template that has been suggested and placed it in the
Tiddlyserver folder. I have also created folders within the Tiddlyserver
folder called myfolder, workstuff, user and projects_group and have placed
a test wiki in myfolder. After running the batch file I can access
Tiddlyserver in Chrome at 127.0.0.1:8080 and I can see the folder tree.
However, when I try to open any of the folders I get an HTTP ERROR 404.

Can anyone advise what I need to do to access the wiki? Have I put the wiki
in the correct place?

Any suggesting about porting this to my Andoid tablet?

Many thanks in anticipation.

[tw5] Re: [ Streams ] : feedback and issues

2020-08-13 Thread Saq Imtiaz
Hi Keelan,

The detailed feedback is highly appreciated, no need to apologize. I will
reply properly when I have a bit more time, but wanted to drop a quick note
that the latest version of Streams should not have the issue you
experienced with needing to add a space at the start of a node:

[tw5] Re: How do you manage bibliography and other citations?

2020-08-13 Thread Keelan Cook
I concur with Mark. I'm currently using Refnotes as well, in addition to
Saq's Streams plugin.

Here's my workflow with it:

   1. I've created a text expander flow that auto-populates the syntax for
a footnote, so that I can just use a / command to call it up.
   2. I create a source tiddler for the book, and using the Streams plugin,
you can very quickly take notes on a book. Each new node is actually a
tiddler, so it creates atomic notes that are all just connected to the
source tiddler for the book. Each one can then be linked to other topics of
notes, of course, and they can be transcluded or copied into another
   tiddler for composition later.
   3. With each note created this way, I use my text expander to quickly
call up the macro for a footnote and simply add bib info at the end of each
note. That means every, single note now has the bib reference in it.
   4. Added bonus: The Refnotes plugin also allows you to easily create a
bibliography at the bottom of a tiddler based off all the footnotes in the
tiddler. And if I pull in notes from multiple books to a new article
tiddler by transclusion, it dynamically updates the numbering in the new
tiddler and adds them to that bottom bibliography section for that note.
This is especially nice if I'm writing an article inside TiddlyWiki.

Happy to explain more if it would help.

[tw5] New goody for Stroll - outliner

2020-08-13 Thread David Gifford

Hi all

Saq created a plugin called Editor AutoLists. It is so good that I am now
promoting it on my Goodies for Stroll site as a great add-on. It makes
TiddlyWiki feel more like an outliner program like Dynalist or Roam.

Start the first line of an unordered (bulleted) list with an asterisk as
usual.
Hit enter for a new line with an asterisk in place.
Hit tab to enter another asterisk (i.e., indent the line)
Hit enter again, and you have a new line with **
Backspace twice to go up to remove the extra * and return to the higher
level list
Hit enter twice to exit the unordered list and write normally.

Try it and get it at https://giffmex.org/stroll/goodies.html#Outliner

A personal word: I can't tell you how much it improved my writing. I
created a 40 page static HTML in three short mornings, *including the
research*. https://giffmex.org/ast/convenciones.literarias.html. This has
changed the game for me. Give it a try.

Blessings, Dave

[tw5] Re: Nice mention of tiddlywiki

2020-08-13 Thread bimlas
I really like Vivaldi because it supports customization just like
TiddlyWiki or Vim.

The main features I use in it are:

*Window panel*

The Vivaldi window sidebar can be useful because on the one hand we will
have a distraction-free interface and on the other hand you can look at the
open tabs as if they were just notes or files; a to-do list that is grouped
by topic.

You can access the list of windows in the "Window" section on the sidebar.
If the sidebar is wide, it’s a bit tricky to find the X that closes that
page, so you’d rather press the middle mouse button to close the page.

*Web panel*

You can add any website to Vivaldi's sidebar, so you can access it with one
click as if you had just opened separate tabs for them, but they wouldn't
interfere with your list of real tabs.

Usage examples:

   - Social networking sites (Twitter, Reddit, Facebook)
   - Pages that we look at from time to time, but don't want to leave a tab
open for them all the time (news, blogs, RSS feed reader extensions)
   - Google Translator
   - Online help for reading documentation
   - Our own notes (eg TiddlyWiki)
   - Appscope: For Progressive Web Apps (PWA)

What I don't like about it:

   - Mouse gesture does not work in it, instead it performs the action on
the "real" page in the background
   - It does not display Alert, prompt windows, so e.g. the question "Are
you sure you want to delete the note" doesn't appear either, ergo can't
perform these tasks in it (this can be a negative on TiddlyWiki)
   - Does not open a file download window (eg we cannot download a mail
   attachment)

To see the back, forward, reload buttons, right-click in the header ->
Toolbar -> Show All Controls. You can also set it to appear as a desktop
web page instead of the mobile view.

*Mouse gesture *

In Vivaldi, I can assign any mouse gesture to any command (go to the top of
the page, open DeveloperTools, print a page, ...).

The gestures I use:

   - Scroll to the top of the page
   - Scroll to the bottom of the page
   - Previous history
   - Window sidebar
   - Next history
   - Forced reload
   - New page
   - Close tab
   - Reopen a closed tab
   - Webpanel 1 (Google Translator)
   - Developer Tools (DeveloperTools)
   - User interface switch (hide the top block that includes the URL bar)
   - Horizontal mosaic

*Modding Vivaldi *

You can also add custom functions with Javascript and CSS.

The only problem with these hacks is that you will probably need to adjust
the code for each release, because in most cases, what you base the code on
will change, for example my "Show URL on the Thumbnails
" is not
working with the current release (as I know).

Hopefully this means that Vivaldi finally fixed a serious problem with its
browser. The last time I tried it, it would allow you close a tab, or back
off a page, without warning you that you had work to be saved. If you're
not saving all the time, you could lose everything instantly. At the time,
it appeared that Vivaldi had ignored this problem for many months. The
same thing would happen if, for instance, you were replying in a form like
on GG. For me, this made Vivaldi unusable.

[tw5] Re: [ Streams ] : feedback and issues

2020-08-13 Thread Keelan Cook
As promised, my response to your questions... at length (my apologies).

*Have you encountered any issues or pain/choke points in your workflow with
Streams?*

Overall, I'm very impressed with the manner in which Streams does what it
does. So, pain points are slight, but there are some of course. I've been a
long time Workflowy user, and I often find myself wanting it to work like
WF in instances. Furthermore, there is a good chance the pain points are
simply from the nature of TW and more an issue of me having to relearn
behaviors.

   - *Hitting enter in a node with text does not always behave the way I
want.* - I'm very glad you added the ability to split a tiddler into two
nodes by hitting enter. It would really slow down my workflow if that
process was inhibited, as I often write full paragraphs into a node,
realizing only afterward that they need to be separate paragraphs. If I had
to confirm this change every time, it would impede using Streams for
writing and notetaking. However, I also expect the reverse behavior because
of my time in Workflowy. If I am at the beginning of a node that needs to
be connected to the one above it, I expect hitting backspace to join the
two nodes. And, of course, Streams doesn't do this, so I find myself
regularly attempting this action by reflex.
   - *Nested nodes stay with an empty node when hitting enter instead of
moving with content.* - If I have a node with nested tiddlers and hit
enter at the beginning of the text in that node, my expectation is that all
the text of that node and the nested nodes under it would move down,
creating a new blank tiddler above with nothing in it. Again, this is a
Workflowy behavior. However, in Streams, this action leaves all nested
information under the blank node created and moves the text from the parent
node down into a separate tiddler below everything.
   - *Ctrl+down does not always behave as I expect.* - If I've collapsed
nested nodes and want to switch between top level nodes. For example, if
I'm writing an outline, I will have headings. If I collapse the subheadings
under each heading and then attempt to use the Ctrl + down function it
switches down to the nested node that is not visible (one of the
subheadings) instead of switching down to the next heading that is visible.
   - *Having to add a space at the beginning of a node.* - Finally, there
appears to be some quirk where I have to enter a space prior to using a
text expander. It will not call the action if I enter the slash as the
first character in a new node. So, I have to hit a space and then put it in.
   - *Search gets confusing.* I've learned to adjust to this, but all of
the streams tiddlers show up in search. Most of the time, I only want the
parent to show and then I will find what I want on that "main tiddler."
However, I periodically have a tiddler created in a stream that rises to
the level of a stand alone tiddler, so I would want it to index. I realize
the dilemma in all of this. So, I think if we could omit all the children
and just index the main parent tiddler for a stream in search, it would be
preferrable, since it is possible to just rename a specific stream tiddler
and then it could index. At current, when I have one of these special
stream tiddlers that I want to also stand alone, the relink gives me the
ability to name it with something outside the stream and keep it in the
stream. That's probably clear as mud. If you can't tell, I'm still thinking
   through this one myself.

*Are there any features you find yourself wishing that Streams had?*

   - *Easily adjust max width.* - It would be nice when you develop a
configuration panel to include adjustable max width. I've found that line
in the style and can easily adjust that way, but having that option in the
   control panel would be nice.
   - *Different views would be stellar. *- A Document view, in specific,
would be a great addition for me. As mentioned previously, I use this to
create a source tiddler for literature notes, then I create an outline
tiddler (also with Streams) where I draft the outline of the article I am
writing. I can easily drag my notes from source tiddlers to fill in the
article outline. With a little manipulation, these notes become paragraphs
within the outline. The outline becomes the article. If I could then switch
it to a document view that removes the bullets and makes nodes headings,
   that would be incredible.
   - *Conditional styles(?)* - Even while in outline form, I wish there was
a way to make some styles conditional. Though, I have no idea if that's
even a thing CSS can do. For instance, if I turn a node into a heading with
!!, it would no longer show the bullet next to it, but still show the
bullets on all body text in nested nodes under it. Another

[tw5] Re: Embed wiki into Microsoft Teams (BOB)

2020-08-13 Thread Stobot
Thanks for the feedback so far guys, but it sounds like I emphasized the
wrong thing here. Single file TiddlyWiki works out of the box in Teams or
otherwise with no problem using the SharePoint ASPX thing - I probably
shouldn't have mentioned ASPX as I probably turned off part of the audience
that could help. That's pretty cool and lets you replace the built-in Wiki
that Teams provides (which is terrible) with a TiddlyWiki.

My problem is only that I have my whole team using a Wiki using BOB for
it's simultaneous co-editing experience as our primary project management
software, and it isn't exposed as a http: address. So I'm not looking to
host it a different way than I am (I just set aside a dedicated computer on
our local network to run BOB), but I need to "trick" Teams by giving it a
url starting with http: I mentioned SharePoint because I know I can put any
file on SharePoint and have access to it via a http: address, so my thought
was to fake a .html file that solely contained an iframe to the
10.1.#.#:8080 address as a kind of hack to bypass Team's url filter.
Unfortunately web stuff and networking is probably my weakest area of
knowledge.

I guess in thinking through it, this is more a question of how
works, if it can be given a src="10.1.#.#:8080" type address (so far it
appears no?) or if there are any similar ideas on how to make that work.

Thanks!

[tw5] How do you manage bibliography and other citations?

2020-08-13 Thread IvanPsy
Hi all,

I started with TiddlyWiki as my second brain, and I love it!

Now...I read lots of papers and other research, articles and blog posts.
When I extract the information and put them in my TiddlyWiki I lose all the
references, as all is mixed inside my second brain: in a single tiddler
there may be information extracted from several articles, and a single
article may be split into several tiddlers.

But I need to get back to the reference when I write my articles for the
public, so that I can cite who said what.

How do you manage it?
Any example?

Thank you!
