Hi Mohammad,

Yeah I did it for me, not to share. Then I was so impressed with how fast
the process is, that I shared it as is. There is a lot I would do to change
it before telling people outright to use it.

David,
Good efforts and a clean app!

Few comments:
1. Why you have hardcoded some styles e.g links color? If somebody like a
dark them then there will be difficulty in ready low contrast texts!
2. The topbar toolbar, on mouse hover on links/texts it shows a white text

 Here are my reactions:

 1. That export tab is a stroke of genius! Time saver for exporting
 multiple-but-not-all tiddlers.
 2. That drag tags tab is also a stroke of genius. I don't use tags that
much, but that is a great idea.
 3. It took me a while to figure out that effectively, the Another one
bites the dust is the text field editor and the Title is the title editor.
I am so used to seeing title on top and text below. And since they are
headers, that reinforced my idea that the top was the tiddler title, which
made me wonder what the title field was for. Not saying you should change
anything, just letting you know of my confusion. Or perhaps replace
 Another
one bites the dust with Text or something that identifies what it is for.
 4. Not a fan of having an omnibus tag for omnibus tiddlers, since that
might be confusing to viewers if I publish a file online, but I tend to
hide the tags field in view mode anyway, so it won't affect me.
 5. Amazing that it all comes toghether so well, expand/collapse
individually or collectively, change editing options or show clean, drag

rearrange, add new in the place where you want it. Also the interface is
not overly invasive/cluttered, and you can hide various elemen

[tw5] Re: [HELP] Tiddlyserver Update

2020-11-27 Thread Kei
I normally launch Tiddlyserver on cmd by tiddlyserver --config.

My personal files is located inside the tiddlyserver directory. When I
inputted npm install -g tiddlyserver@latest, the error occurred and when I
checked the directory in node_modules, there's no tiddlyserver directory
anymore. I checked the recycled bin but the files aren't there so I don't
know where it went :/

Sorry, I don't know what administrator box is, what is it? Anyways, thanks
for the reply!

[tw5] Stroll on steroids

2020-11-27 Thread David Gifford
Hi all

At the moment this is just an experiment. It has a lot of clean up
necessary to make it publishable as a finished product. But if I get a lot
of requests, I may clean this up during my vacation in December.

I played with this combination of features and it is really fast.

Fast generation of tabs as subtopics of an article.
Editor autolists so it is easy to to start new lines and indent in bulleted
lists.
Modal window button Eric helped me with
Everything from Stroll

https://giffmex.org/experiments/stroll.on.steroids.html

Read the instructions, play with it for half an hour, and let me know what
you think.

[tw5] Re: Getting Started using node.js ... TiddlyWiki is not connecting

2020-11-27 Thread Joshua Fontany
IF you have installed Tiddlywiki globally as a node.js package, you can
invoke it with just "tiddlywiki" in the command (which it looks like you
have done).

So, when starting the server on either device, you can have the "command
line directory" set to anything you want if you pass the full (or relative)
path from there to where your wiki is located. The below would be
equivalent if your command prompt reads " C:\Users\Fred> " as it does in
your example.

tiddlywiki '../../Wikis/mynewwiki' --listen
OR
tiddlywiki 'C:/Wikis/mynewwiki' --listen

If you do give the full path to your SD drive, then you are giving node.js
permission to actively read/write from the SD card as your wiki changes. It
might be better on your PC to have the wiki in a folder on your hard-drive,
and then sync to and from the SD card when you want to sync the copies.

I use the Free File Sync app @ https://freefilesync.org/ to synchronize a
set of QWikis between 2 PCs, by syncing to the Wikis folder to an external
HDD, and then syncing that Wikis folder to the other PC's hard-drive.

Best,

[tw5] Re: How

2020-11-27 Thread TW Tones
vpl,

You may need the temporary value stored for some reason, but sometimes it
is possible to simply calculate it each time you need it.

For others reading this thread the macros from vpl and Eric are used inside
a trigger such as the button widget to get the action-setfield to work.

[tw5] Re: Plugin: Omnibus tiddlers

2020-11-27 Thread clutterstack
In case anyone's interested, I have some updated versions of my plugins
going at https://clutterstack.github.io/can-tw/workshop/.

It's a never-ending evolution, breaking and fixing and tweaking, but I
thought I'd share an imperfect public wiki. The latest version of Omni
addresses some of David Gifford's notes: hiding of the toolbar that changes
modes, and more sensible placeholder text. I also fixed whole-tiddler
folding for omnibuses, which I had broken and then neglected for a long
time.

Cheers,
Chris

Try this:
{{!!char_name}}<$list filter="[has[alias]]">, alias:
{{!!alias}}

Notes:
* the has[alias] operator only returns the currentTiddler if the alias
field is non-blank
* if you wanted to allow a blank alias field (but still require the field

Split the filter into two separate $list widgets, like this:

[tw5] showing a section of text from a template only when the field is present

2020-11-27 Thread 'MissyLaMotte' via TiddlyWiki

Hi,

I am relatively new to TiddlyWiki (I did use the classic version before,
though) and I am trying to find my way around. Here is what I am trying to
do.

I am writing a novel and I want to keep my character list in a TiddlyWiki.
I made a template for how I want my character information to be shown,
using fields. For a new character I then just fill out all desired fields
and transclude it into the template. It works fine, so I think I have the
general mechanism down. Now, some fields don't apply for all characters, so
they can be left empty. in that case, I would like to be able to hide that
portion of text.

So, in my template I have something like:
Name: {{!!char_name}}, alias: {{!!alias}}

on my actual Charakter tiddler I only have the field char_name, but not
alias, so it renders to
Name: John Doe, alias:

and I would like to find a way to hide the ",alias: " part completely in
that case. I have a feeling it can be done with filters and (has then else)
somehow, but I don't get the syntax correct. Can anyone with more
experience help me out, please?

Thanks,
Jutta

[tw5] How

2020-11-27 Thread vpl
Hi,

I want to update the field of tiddlers that have been filtered based on a
compare operator ..
I have a set of tiddlers taged "test-1"
Each of them have a "date" field which stores a specific MMDD
I want to filter all of these tiddlers whose date value is greated than
{!!testval}
And for each tiddler I want to set a specific field ('tempid') with a value

When I run the below code, the <> is note the *title *of
the filtered tiddler bur the date value !!! So at the end the
action-setfield is applied on new tiddler whose title is the date value and
not my existing 'test-1" tiddlers.
It turns around this <> that I do not use correctly but
cannot figure out how to solve it ...

Any expert who could help .. ??
Many thanks in advance
Vpl

\define my_test()
<$list filter="[tag[test-1]get[date]compare:date:gt{!!testval}]">
   <$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $field="tempid"
$value="4"/>

[tw5] Re: TiddlyWiki best practices

2020-11-27 Thread Mohammad
Springer,

I really like your Tiddlywikis act as course pages with all related
materials. One difference between my own wikis with yours is I keep
information in a loose format while you arrange them in a dense format! By
this I mean I have little information per tiddler, most of them are
visible, I use fields for special purposes so I use the rich environment of
Tiddlywiki but in its simple possible form. Like you I am a big fan of
dynamic tables.

I also use Tiddlywiki for Homework. Students submit their homework as a
Tiddlywiki single file. It is a standard one I distribute to them. (with
Relink + Shiraz+ favorites+ comment+ todo+ commander + Highlight.js + KaTeX)

Using comment plugin I can review and comment their solution and return to
them.

I also use Tiddlywiki + Tiddlyshow for lecturing!

I also distribute some course materials as plugin. I learned this from
Xavier Cazin. For example they can download a plugin called: Root finding.
This plugin contains all my course notes, pyhton codes, ... in a form of
plugin regarding root fining for scalar algebraic equations. So, they can
play with them add their own notes, ... but they always have my original
course notes in their Course Tiddlywiki.

Cheers
Mohammad

[tw5] Re: TiddlyWiki best practices

2020-11-27 Thread Mohammad
CI0d,
While you got some good replies from right people I would like to add my
two cents:
You use Word processor like (MS Word, LibreOffice Write, Google Doc,... or
similar) do you put all your writings in on document? For example consider
me as a PhD student
I store my manuscripts each in their own file e.g a docx (MS Word),
progress reports in their own files (but in one folder), thesis report in
its own file (even each chapter in a separate file in one folder),... you
may for example create a master document to build your thesis report for
chapters,

Tiddlywiki is the same, keep different things in different Tiddlywikis.
Don't put learning notes about Tiddlywiki in the same wiki you prepared as
a monthly report for your supervisor. Keep monthly reports in separate
wikis.
You work on a research project say: COVID-19, use a separate wiki and store
all related research notes, links to resources, webpages, ... in that wiki

I see each Tiddlywiki like a Word document, so I don't expect it to keep
everything for me from grocery list to my lecture notes, recent
manuscript, my talk for xx conference, TW learning notes, Q&A from GG, bla
bla ...

Those who use Tiddlywiki as a comprehensive second brain, they mostly use
it for notes! In most cases it is just like Mr Woopee and hos closet

[tw5] Re: Making a custom Journal button

2020-11-27 Thread Linda B
I’ve tried the instructions on the tiddlywiki.com website for “Making a
custom Journal button”. I’ve managed to create a Journal-type tiddler with
the same format of title, no custom text, and a different tag. This
template is called NewAnomaly.

Now in my Table of Contents and List-Links macros,
the $:/config/NewAnomaly/Tags tiddler itself is listed. (This also
sometimes happens with Journal tiddlers in the basic TOC macro.)

What change do I need to make to these macros so that that shadow tiddler
doesn’t show up in the list? I have Googled for hours and can’t make sense
of it.

I’m using Quine 2 for iOS on an ipad. I don’t know whether the container
makes a difference in this problem, so I’m starting with this forum in the
hopes that someone can rescue me.

Thank you,

[tw5] Re: Filter operator for grouping by removing suffix

2020-11-27 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
The """ thing is a habit I go into to help prevent code that breaks when
confronted with tiddlers that have spaces, quotes, or other odd
punctuation. Very often it isn't actually needed.

It's a similar thing for the <__pfx__> syntax. It's a bit funky, but it is
more robust when the content of the parameter might contain some unexpected
punctuation. I probably could have used [$pfx$] instead.

The notation is really useful when you are using a variable define outside
the macro (that is, a variable defined in the calling environment). Then
you might call it like:

...tag...

which is a lot less clunky than other alternatives.

Re: [tw5] Re: Passing macro output to another macro?

2020-11-27 Thread P M
Hi Tones,

I am now trying to do this with <> instead of using
tags. I was thinking that maybe it would be easier to just use fields for
this but now I am not that sure...

Do you know if there is a variable which stores the name of the tiddler
from which an item is being dragged from? Like actionTiddler has the name
of the tiddler being dragged, and targetTiddler (I think?) has the name of
where I am dragging it. I would like to remove an item from a list when it
is being dragged away from the dropzone. So if I have a tiddler "Parent"
and a tiddler "Child", where the tiddler "Parent" has a field "list" with
"Child" in it. So it would be

* Parent
* Child

And now if I drag the "Child" away from the "Parent", I would like to
automatically change the "list" field of Parent to reflect that "Child" is
no longer its child.

[tw5] Re: [HELP] Tiddlyserver Update

2020-11-27 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
Arlen would be the best person to answer, but while we're waiting I'll ask
some questions.

How do you normally launch tiddlyserver? An upgrade to ts shouldn't affect
your personal
files unless you did some unusual like putting them into the node_modules
directory.

So if you can remember how you launch, then you should be able to find the
configuration
that will tell you (or remind you) where your personal files are. With TS,
your personal files
could be anywhere on the system, depending on configuration. So your
personal files should
be there -- you just have to remember where.

Looking at the logs, it appears that ts didn't have enough permissions to
complete it's process.
Possibly if you opened an administrator box and ran the upgrade it would
complete. Perhaps
that is what you did when you first installed and have forgotten. But, like
I said, you might
want to wait for other input.

Good luck!

[tw5] Re: Requesting Help to Port My TiddlySpot Files

2020-11-27 Thread springer
TiddlySpot was absolutely the lowest bar-to-entry for instant-gratification
create-edit-save-publish work in TiddlyWiki. Having something like it is
essential to attracting new users with an interest in public-facing
instant-edit projects.

Alvin: For those like you who already know they love tiddlywiki and love
the tiddlyspot convenience, I do recommend the GitHub saver. It's
effectively the same workflow experience as TiddlySpot... at least it's
comparable *AFTER* the arduous process (at least, it was arduous for me) of
getting the repository set up and properly cleared for saving from the
browser. Mohammad's walkthrough tutorial is very helpful (and it seems like
the glitch around GitHub email verification, which hobbled my own
experience, was idiosyncratic).

Also, I want to correct what I just posted about the Relink plugin and

[tw5] [HELP] Tiddlyserver Update

2020-11-27 Thread Kei
(Sorry had to repost) Hello so I found out that there was an update in
Tiddlyserver so I immediately went straight to the getting started guide
and I ran npm install -g tiddlyserver@latest in the cmd since I already
have tiddlyserver installed. The problem is after entering that, I got a
message from cmd saying that there's an error along with the debug log. I
checked the directory in node_modules and there's no tiddlyserver anymore
along with my wikis. I once again typed npm install -g tiddlyserver@latest
this in and that when the tiddlyserver directory appeared but my wiki is
not there ofc. Now I can't seem to find my server config, files, and wikis
anywhere and I'm afraid that I can't retrieve it anymore. I have a backup
but it was last updated 2 weeks or so ago, I haven't downloaded the latest
HTML file so yea.

I guess it's partially my fault since I didn't read the instructions
further but can anyone clarify about this, thank you!

Yes, Relink is about being able to rename tiddlers without having any
markup links to them go cold. But given how many of us found it to be
essential, I believe it's been brought into the core for a while now (since
5.1.14). So if you're just starting up you should already see an option box
appear, when you rename a tiddler, to verify that you want the links to
follow along. (Sometimes you might specifically *not* want the links to
follow, so it's great that it's de-selectable.)

@springer : Alright. That lowers my fear of messing up my data. Got you,
that's also what I saw on your teaching Wiki. You have a red outline and
yellow background for definitions for example, which, as you say, tells us
clearly that we're looking at a definition.

@Charlie Veniot : I'm sorry if I sound dumb, but I don't understand what
could be the use of "relink". Is it related to the dynamic modification of

Just to edit my response, now I've actually read the thread carefully,
oops, I'm slightly off track in my reply...I'm just looking at individual
hosting. I'd happily chuck some cash somebody's way for continued
tiddlyspot workingness. I'm guessing no one has heard anything regarding
the future of the site?

[tw5] My amazing you tube Video.....:)

2020-11-27 Thread Ste
Well, it's not that amazing (I say 'Er' an awful lot)...a while ago I put
up a quick intro to TiddlyWiki video in the hope of enticing my colleagues
to the dark side.

Despite me putting up many more really interesting (read 'really niche
engineering content') videos up for my students the TiddlyWiki video is my
most watched one. It's not going to let me retire on the youtube revenue
(only just over 1000 views) but does seem to come up regularly in
searches. This suggests to me that TiddlyWiki visibility on youtube is
quite lowas there is no other reason I'd be appearing on searches :D

So...get screencasting people... let us tell the world! :D

The correct syntax would be:

<$list filter="[tag[test-1]get[date]compare:date:gt{!!referencets}]">

[tw5] How to pass a tiddler field value to a compare operand

2020-11-27 Thread vpl
Hi,

Discovering this compare operator I block on one point ..

I have a set of tiddlers with a "date" field
I want to list & filter them based on their date field when it's greater
than a value store in a reference tiddler field called 'referencets'

I've tried the following but it does not take into account my referencets
value
<$list filter="[tag[test-1]get[date]compare:date:gt[{{!!referencets}}]]">

I've also tried with simple bracket but not working ...
<$list filter="[tag[test-1]get[date]compare:date:gt[{!!referencets}]]">

Any magic idea ?

Thanks a lot for your help and support

Regards Vpl

[tw5] Re: Filter operator for grouping by removing suffix

2020-11-27 Thread Christoph Chalfin
Thank you so much for this detailed example!

I have two questions:
1) What do the three """ mean? Could you also just use one " or do the
three have a special function?
2) I never really understood what the syntax <__pfx__> does. I get the
$name$ and $(name)$ - but the other macro notations don´t come easily to me.
