And how about the plugins depository?

How much of the plugins are already adjusted to 5, and how quickly are

[tw] Tiddly wiki 5 ?

2015-04-28 Thread Dani Zobin
Hi dudes,

How ripe is tiddlywiki5?

I'm about to start a new wiki, and wondering which version to use

(I have a large wiki already, based on the original version [whatever it's
called, not the 5])

Thanks

[tw] TiddlyWiki API

2013-09-09 Thread Dani Zobin
Hi

I want to start adapting a plugin (Radom Tiddler) to my needs

Where can I find a documentation of the tiddly wiki api?

Some notes:
- I'm a web developer, so no problem with js, jquery, DOM
- I don't want to go too deep into the tiddly code. IDeally short
documentation of the api so that I can achieve my specific goal as quickly
as possible and leave it alone

[tw] Cancelling the TiddlyFox allert

2013-05-04 Thread Dani Zobin
I'm using Tiddly on firefox, through the TiddlyFox extension.
Every time I load Tiddly, an annoying allert pop's up, asking me aboujt the
obvious: do I want to enable tiddlywiky saving features. Yes I do.

Is there a way to turn this alert off?

Who is it that asks me that - is it the extension or firefox itself, maybe
some security measure?

[tw] Looping through a set of tiddler with "prev" and "next" buttons

2013-04-27 Thread Dani Zobin
I would like to be able to loop through an ordered set of tiddler by seeing
one tiddler at a time, and having "prev" and "next" buttons to navigate.
Does anything like this exist?

The selection of tiddlers can come form different sources, this is not the
point, asking mainly about the widget of prev - next looping through a
predefined set of tiddlers

Thanks

[tw] Showing tiddlers by creation date with YourSearchPlugin or otherwise

2013-04-16 Thread Dani Zobin
I'm using tiddly to write down my thoughts on specific topics as they come.
>From time to time I want to read many tiddler, sometimes by topic sometimes
just everything. And often I want to read them by the same order they were
created.

Now I could just use the timeline, but this is not helpful if I only want a
fraction of my tiddlers. There is also the issue that the timeline shows me
the tiddlers by the date they were last edited, and not the creation date.
This is sometimes a problem, especially with tiddlers that are edited by
accident while reading.

So, I would like to
1. Show all tiddler by creation date
2. Show a set of tiddlers by creation date

For finding single tiddlers I am using the awesome YourSearchPlugin. Is
there a way top ask it to show search results by a certain order, and open
all of them by this order?

Would like to hear also about other methods not involving YourSearchPlugin

Thank you

Dani

[tw] Re: content organization: the advantage of hierarchy that tags lack, and a cure for this problem

2011-05-01 Thread Dani Zobin
Throwing in one more idea:

The ability to "stick a filter on the top of you wiki". Probably usually the
filter be a tag.
The "sticking" means a focus into a sub-world of your domain.

For example, if I have a wiki about cars, at some point I may want to set a
"Subaru" filter in the background, i.e. today I'm working only on Subaru, so
append tag:subaru to all my searches / tag browsing and maybe also
automatically apply the tag "Subaru" onto all the new tiddlers I create.

[tw] content organization: the advantage of hierarchy that tags lack, and a cure for this problem

2011-05-01 Thread Dani Zobin
Hi

A word of introduction: I came to Tiddly recently, during my search of a
better tool to organize my content, which is usually text related
to diverse areas.
So this is what I'm after more than everything: effective ways to organize
unstructured content.
I basically feed very good about Tiddly for this aim.

And to the topic.

I'm sure many of us are coming originally from a background of folders and
files to organize their content.
Than, one day you figure out: this piece of content is related to more than
only one category. And my data model (directories tree) is not expressive
enough to reflect this fact.
Than tags step in - you can tag a piece of content by many tags. If it only
belongs to one - than great, tag it with only one tag. And here we have a
more expressive data model. Great.

But (!) on the way we lost something important . Hierarchical structure
hides from us the vast majority of our content, exposing on each step only a
small part of relevant content. This follows one of our biggest natural
cognitive limitations: *attention*.

*Tags, in the traditional form, fail to do so*. You have all your tags at one
big pile.

The idea of tags cloud tries to handle this problem, by showing the most
used tags bigger. But this is a statistical categorization, not conceptual
So here is a claim: we need a way to powerfully categorize tags themselves
as well. And, be able to select them by categories whenever needing to
specify a tag (when searching by tag or
when applying a tag)

I'll suggest here an initial list of requirements for a feature that follows
the thoughts above

*- Be able to categorize existing tags, by applying other tags (already
possible in Tiddly) [example: apply the tag "vehicle" on the tag "car"]*
*- When applying a tag, be able to create a new tag under an existing tag
[example: create the tag "subaru" under the tag "car" (that himself is
tagged by vehicle). Later, we'll be able to apply also "Japanese products"
on "subaru" but in the time of creation it will be probably apropriate to
limit categorization to one parent tag]*
*
*
*In two situations we need to specify tags, and this search for tags: when
applying a tag, when filtering by a tag*
*In this situation we need to be able to search for tags, exactly as we're
searching for content. Namely: by textual search - i.e. auto complete (a
plugin for this by Udo already exists) and by tags*
*So if I want to search info about a car that I recently saw and don't
remember the brand, I will type (or better be also able to use a GUI):
tags:car [here a dropdown will appear with all tags that are themselves
tagged by car, i.e. brands of cars] and I can now choose: only filter by the
main category - car, or continue and choose a subtag: Subaru. *
*
*
*Whenever a Tidler is tagged by a tag, it will be automatically tagged also
by all parent tags. So when tagging a tiddler by Subaru, it'll be
automatically tagged also by "car" and by "Japanese product". (This can be
implemented at the time of tagging, or at the time of retrieval. Should be
transparent to the user.) *
*
*
Some more general thoughts:

Personally I feel that rarely more than 2 levels of hierarchy will be
needed. Maybe 3. But this 2-3 level are absolutely needed. I felt this need
many times since I started to insert content into my Tiddly some week ago

My guess is that many may not feel strongly the need for the above, because
they don't use so much tags.
However, in my opinion, there is a great chance, that those people would
use much more tags, IF they had an efficient way to order and retrieve
them.
And more tags used is more captured meaning, and better abilities of
retrieval. I.e. more chances that you'll actually use what you wrote.

Hey guys, I hope for a positive resonance, for this post of mine.
I feel this is a key point, go ahead and share you thoughts.

Dani

P.S

Generally I'm a web developer, and even if more server side oriented, I have
some experience also with JS and JQuery.
If my excitement with Tiddlly will continue to be at high level it currently
is, there is a good chance that I'll jump one day into the wagon of Tiddly
development.
I'm not sure however how soon my time will allow this
So for now I'm throwing this idea here into the group, in order for it to
start getting feedback and resonating with other peoples minds. I'll for
sure be very glad if someone likes it enough to implement

[tw] Shortcut keys don't work on FF/windows

2011-05-01 Thread Dani Zobin
Hi

I've just became aware of shortcut keys in Tiddly.

For some reason, ctrl+enter and esc work for me, but not alt+f, aln+n, alt+j
for searching, new tiddler and new journal respectively

Looked again at the documentation, and I suspect that this can be related to
the following "The macro needs to be used in an open tiddler (or the
MainMenu or SideBar)
in order for the access keys to work"

However, I don't 100 % understand what it means and what do I need to do.

Will appreciate your help

Dani

[tw] Creating journals with full datetime stamp, rather than only a date

2011-04-18 Thread Dani Zobin
I figure out that TiddlyWiki has a link "create a journal" which allows me
to specify as the title the current date
However this only uses the date for the title, thus creating another journal
at the same date, will take me to editing the existing journal created
earlier at that date, rather than a new one
Using date and time instead of just date for the Tiddlers title would have
solved the issue.
I wonder if there is a simple way to do it. Anybody knows?

Lyall, thanks.

"No point in searching the content, it's encrypted!" well, unless you
decrypt them before searching, and then there is a point
This is one of the reasons why I'm trying to get the EncryptedVault plugin
working for me: It encrypts all tiddles, then when you open, it decrypts
them, and than *all are searchable*.

I guess that the amount of encrypted tiddlers varies vastly depending on the
sphere of usage, and usage patterns.

Are the encrypted tiddlers searchable once decrypted?
Let's take the following scenario: I use one encryption group, and want to
decrypt it uppon loading my tiddly wiki. Can I run one decryption command,
and then freely search all the tiddlers?

[tw] Encryption

2011-04-13 Thread Dani Zobin
Hi group,

I'm in the process of setting my basic tool box, in order to reach a point
soon when I feel safe enough to trust Tiddly with my data

One must item in the toolbox is encryption.

I enjoyed very much the
EncryptedVaultPlugin
which
is symple, and exactly what I need. Unofortunately, it fails to decrypt my
Hebrew Tiddles which is a complete show stopper, taking me too seek other
alternatives.

I'd appreciate a response from anybody who uses encryption in practice in
his Tiddly, with a reference to the plugins he uses.
I'm particularly interested in the below questions:
- Is this a per Twiddle approach, or for the whole document
(like EncryptedVault above)
- Can I search encrypted Tiddles (of course, via decrypting them somehow.
This works great with the EncryptedVault approach, where you can decrypt all
the wiki at once, and then use)
And generally in anything you have to say about this.

Anybody knows how can I contact the author of the EncryptedVault?
Anybody has idea what can cause the problem with decrypting Hebrew (or why
the collation is not transparent to the algorithm), and possibly how can
this be fixed?

Thanks

Dani

Re: [tw] Re: Filtering by tags

2011-04-13 Thread Dani Zobin
Eric,

I installed the plugins, but when reloading Tiddly, I receive the following
error from the plugin : "Error: SyntaxError: missing ; before statement"

I installed the plugin by copy-pasting all the parts of the code here
http://www.tiddlytools.com/#MatchTagsPlugin (you separate them with
spaces), into one tiddler, tagging it by systemConfig
I installed other plugins the same way, and they did work

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Dani

One more piece of data: I thought that maybe a Hebrew title creates the
problem. So no, an English title with Hebrew contents still leads to broken
nonsense (the contents) upon decryption

Now this is very interesting. Can you say more on this?
Which aspects of TiddlyWiki changed the way you think? And how?

I myself seek this kind of change. Actually I came to this tool (which I
haven't adapt yet in practice), because I was seeking exactly this
features , to organize my thought. (Extensive tagging, fast search,
wikilinks, and besides those - one bucket for all)

Hey Alex, that's interesting. How that's? One of the prominent elements that
I noticed during my short time in this list, is that people here seem to be
JS/css developers, or half the way there, as this is what needed to twist
the application (and it seems that everybody do it). Which is fine for me
personally, but I did notice to myself that this is probably not an app for
regular end users

Re: [tw] Re: How well Tidlly scales?

2011-04-07 Thread Dani Zobin
Michael, thanks a lot for sharing this valuable information.

What do you mean by loading time? The time it takes to load every Twiddle?
Or an initial time to load the file (in which case it's amazing to download
17 MB in 30 secs)

Have you considered trying your huge wiki on a different browser? And see
if the saving problem persists? just for the sake of debugging this

[tw] What's so special about Tiddly

2011-04-06 Thread Dani Zobin
Hi,

During the last days on which I examine TiddlyWiki, I figure out that it's
considered a *unique* application. Citing a Eric from a recent post " It is
nothing like TiddlyWiki -- is anything? ", and I've heard more stuff like
this

My question, is, what is *so* special about Tiddly in your opinion?

For me, Tiddly sounds like: 1) tags 2) search 3) wikilinks 4) timeline
All of this Wordpress can provide, but probably much slower, which is my
motivation to pursue TiddlyWiki

Re: [tw] Re: How well Tidlly scales?

2011-04-06 Thread Dani Zobin
Hey guys,

Thank you for your responsiveness, these all are good inputs.

Disabling tags is not a good option for me however, as tags and fast search
are the main reasons for me to pursue tiddlywikki

I'm considering writing a script to test this by myself,
Where can I learn about the file format of tiddly (so I can create lots of
tiddles by editing this file with my script)?
How simple / complicated is this format?
