[tw] Bullet points stripped out when using SubStories

2017-11-14 Thread johnraekwon

The screen shot below shows how a particular tiddler appears when accessed
in the usual way:

However, when this middle is accessed as a SubStory (a la Creating
SubStories - https://tiddlywiki.com/static/Creating%2520SubStories.html),
the bullet points are lost. How to ensure that formatting is retained when
using SubStory?

Is it a bug or am I implementing wrong?

I played around with using different spacing and but nothing restored
the bullets in the SubStory version... bold formatting seems to have been
retained.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Cheers
John

[tw] WD my cloud - WebDAV or node.js TW server?

2017-09-12 Thread johnraekwon
Hello all,

I have been trying to see about WebDAV solutions for serving TiddlyWiki,
but it seems that most implementations (such as BOX) don't provide access
the .html page through the web interface.

I am using the TiddlyWiki in the Sky with Dropbox at the moment (and I have
relative links to other content stored in the same directory -- so, these
contents are broken in my TiddlySpot version, sadly - meaning I don't
really have a public "read-only" option).

I noticed this:
https://support.wdc.com/knowledgebase/answer.aspx?ID=16497#ConfigureWebDAV

I wondered if anyone has used WebDAV and a WD My Cloud drive to serve a
TiddlyWiki?

I also saw that some people have installed node.js on these... but the
details are above my pay grade so I have not penetrated the method yet.

I have this version:
https://www.wdc.com/products/personal-cloud-storage/my-cloud.html#WDBCTL0060HWT-NESN

But it doesn't seem to support the WebDAV.. I might upgrade depending on
responses here - or I may attempt to install software on it to expand
capabilities.. but, I suspect a lot of bricking occurs when people do this.

Any feedback is welcomed. I am simply looking for what, I think, many users
are - a (relatively) simple way to host my Wiki that allows me the
following:

(1) have multiple users able to edit content securely
(2) append content stored in local directories.
(3) have a public read-only access

I am sure the list will grow :)

John

[tw] Joint saving, local and remote files at once

2017-09-11 Thread johnraekwon
Greetings all,

Hope this is not too redundant - I did a search in the mail archive and did
not come up with much of relevance aside from "TW5 saving offline and
online."

I am using tidily
desktop: https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop/releases

In there I specify my Wiki, which is in a Dropbox folder (I am also playing
with DB based solutions).
In the control panel, under "saving," I have Autosave enabled, Download
Saver disabled, and I also specify a TiddlySpot.

WHEN I give the TiddlySpot credentials to my Wiki while using
TiddlyDesktop, the local DB file is no longer updated -- seems as though
ALL of the saving is strictly via TiddlySpot synch'ing.

Is this expected behavior? Is giving TiddlySpot creds supposed to override
local autosave?

Ideally I would like to get a local save in my DB and a remote sync to the
TiddlySpot. Am I missing something?
Once I removed the TiddlySpot creds, TiddlyDesktop again resumed writing
the local copy (and the backups in the backups folder, which also ceased
with TiddlySpot use).

I'll likely be posting more here as my use and sophistication develops, but
right now I am quite cretinous.

Thanks in advance for your attention and assistance.
John

[tw] Download issue with FF 3.6x and Safari 5.x -- Again.

2010-10-15 Thread johnraekwon
Hi,

I on OS X, 10.5x
I posted about this a while back, regarding FF 3.0 (and the then
latest version of Safari). The problems are two fold:

1) I cannot download from www.tiddlywiki.com the latest version of
tiddlywiki. It just hangs and the dl never initiates. I have tried
going though other sites with direct download links (rather than
javascript links) but the dl initiates and then just hangs... forever.

2) I cannot upgrade my current version of TW using the backstage
upgrade option. It just hangs, so far as I can tell. Reads: loading
core... and then that is it. I presume these two things to be
connected.

Can you advise on the issue? In the meantime, could you provide me
with a link to successfully dl the latest version of TW?

Thanks in advance for your time and attention.

2010-10-15 Thread johnraekwon
Hi..

I... ugh :-)

I have also tried on multiple computers -- with no success, so I
presumed it general rather than local, as a problem.
They were all macs though and all with FF and Safari... did not test
IE

I am downloading through the browser -- http...
No error code is generated.. it just hangs. I didnt check a log about
this. Could do, but not sure the right one.
I can look into this. The hanging is not the browser crashing, it is
the download just waiting for a response from the server.

I can use an FTP -- but dont know the FTP address for TW download.
Could you supply?
Is it simple ftp://tiddlywiki.com -- with anonymous user?

This was pecked out in a hurry... apologies for typos etc.

Cheers,
John

Since you've tried a number of links and get the same result, I suspect
the problem is more likely to be at your end.

You don't say what tool you are using to download with.
You don't report any error codes or messages.

I'm a Linux user, not an OS user, and I often resort to the command
line.  My distribution has _four_ web browsers and occasionally one
works on a page when other's don't.  I also have a number of GUI FTP tools.

But for serious downloading I use the command like and tools like WGet
 and
 cURL.http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/manual/wget.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wgethttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CURLhttp://curl.haxx.se/http://curl.haxx.se/docs/manpage.html

I believe there are GUI front ends for them but the command line is
where the real power and flexibility - and visibility of results and
errors - lies.   Such are essential to diagnosing problems.

Can you advise on the issue?

 Not without more information.

In the meantime, could you provide me
with a link to successfully dl the latest version of TW?

I, as you report, all the links you have tried hang, this won't be of
 use.

[tw] Re: Download issue with FF 3.6x and Safari 5.x -- Again.

2010-10-15 Thread johnraekwon
Nope.

You cannot save as the first link to the effect which you propose.
It saves a URL, not the HTML page. If you (right click, or ctrl
click) in Safari (with the TiddlySaver.jar at the ready in the
destination directory) 'save as' that link, a file containing the URL
(www.tiddlywiki.com) is saved, which when opened directs you to the
http:// site. This method does not work.

Any FTP, SFTP or other server possibility?

Am I the only user reporting / experiencing this issue?

Cheers,
John

Because TiddlyWiki is just a single HTML file, you can download a copy
just by right-clicking on the following linke and using the save link
as... command from the popup menu.

    http://www.tiddlywiki.com/

For your purposes (using Safari), you also need the associated
TiddlySaver.jar file in order to provide support for local file
 saving.

Again.. just right-click and save link as.  Be sure to put the
TiddlySaver.jar file in the same folder as the HTML file, and you
 should be all set!

But it has followed me around so, that is pretty eerie.

[tw] Advice - best way to keep two Wikis in sync on some content?

2009-07-24 Thread johnraekwon

Hi all,

We are two people maintaining distinct TiddlyWikis. However, we have
some content that we propose to share. My question is: What is the
best way to do this?

If I want to link to a specific article in the other TW, I can
permaview there tiddler I want to link to. However, this poses a
problem that if that articles name changes (this happens
occasionally), then the link will become broken.

Another possibility (which I haven't played with yet) is to import the
tiddler from the other TW, and choose to keep them synchronized. My
question is... does the synch fail if the tiddler in question gets a
name change? Same as hyperlinking?

I wonder if it might be possible to configure TW in such a way that
whenever a tiddler is renamed there is a marker held that essentially
says this tiddler used to be called X which would remain as long as
no other tiddler acquires the name X. In this way a synch would
succeed even in the event of a name change, as long as a new tiddler
by the same name is not created.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Also, any suggestions on the best way to coordinate between two TWs
would be appreciated. It doesn't make perfect sense for us both to
edit the same TW for many reasons... so this is why we are trying to
collaborate some content.

[tw] Issues downloading a empty.html and viewing site...

2009-07-14 Thread johnraekwon

This is the second time I have posted on this issue...
For reasons unexplained, a download of the empty.html tiddlywiki
cannot be initiated from firefox (I am using 3.5)... the dl initiates,
and then just hangs. I posted on a similar issue months ago, the
solution was that someone posted it on this group for me to dl.

I am on OS X 10.4.11, as I write, but before I was on 10.5... it may
be OS X specific, but not version specific, or so it seems.

Also, it is IMPOSSIBLE to load the TiddlyWiki web site using Safari...
it seems that Safari should be supported...no? TiddlyWiki runs
locally from both browsers (FF and Safari) and both have pros and cons
as TiddlyWiki agents.

In the meantime, could someone please post an empty.html for me to dl
until the site works as expected?

Cheers for your help.

[tw] Re: Download with FireFox 3.0?

2008-10-17 Thread johnraekwon

Hi,

Thanks for the file, received fine.

As for the other method... I had tried before, but tried again at your
request... had same problems:

1) When I JUST click to download (we are talking about from the
'advanced' section), a new tab opens,
and it loads for ages and ages... and either nothing happens, or it
(eventually) loads the same page as the one
that launched it... no DL initiates.

2) When I choose SAVE AS from the the context menu, a DL initiates,
and then pauses immediately after
starting (~1/4 DL progress), and is stuck there for infinity.

Something about my FF 3.0 install, or my OS X 10.5 doesnt like your
site...
However, all my other browsing activities are working fine, and have
been doing so, which is why I think
the issue is specific to the site AND my computer... not either alone.

Thanks for your help,
John

That's strange - we've tested this with FF3 on OS X, and it worked just
fine. Can you try the links in this tiddler:

Will do - although I'm confident that the above will work.
