Re: [Tinyos-help] modifying components of Xmesh routing protocol

2011-03-23 Thread Yong, Chee Yeew
No, you cannot modify XMesh without the source code. Like you say, you need
the Enterprise edition.
IIRC, you can modify the code (if you have the enterprise edition) as you
please, but if you integrate with your product, then there're royalties
involved.

An Enterprise license would give you all the necessary sources. I have not
seen Memsic advertise this license for MoteWorks, but Crossbow's pricing
(this information is around 4 years old) for that license was around GBP8k.

I don't have access to the XMesh source code. I have not actually used this
mode before, but it doesn't make sense to explicitly broadcast _and_ send to
base. So, its just one hop.

Hi Yong,
 May i clarified that is MODE_ONE_HOP_BROADCAST means
broadcasting for one hop but the destination is still the base ? I read the
x-mesh manual but still a bit confuse the usage.

 1 ) Currently i am using the Intercept() interface in tinyos 1.x .
The interface says that base on the return value we can choose either to
forward the msg or not. My question is that ..the msg is forward to a
particular node or to every nodes within the transmission range (
broadcasting ).

 2) is it true that ReceiveMsg interface can onlyreceive
non-multi hop message ?

 3) How many buffers can be use for a micaz mote ?

 4) Wat is the differenct between
 pack = (XDataMsg *)&(msg_buffer.data);  and  pack=

Can i  change the BASE_STATION_ADDRESS to TOS_BCAST_ADDR

3) TOS messages are generic messages at the MAC level for TinyOS. Multi-hop
message is a particular type of TOS message, so yes, it is possible to
handle both, but you have to investigate how to use both Xmesh and your TOS
meesage handler.

XMesh does not support peer-to-peer messaging. You either send to base
station or from base station to a node.

Re: [Tinyos-help] Intercept Mesg

2010-11-11 Thread Yong, Chee Yeew
Looking at the structs that you are using, I am guessing you are using
Moteworks version of tinyos-1.x.
I'm slightly rusty now having not used Moteworks for a while, so this is to
the best of my recollection:

1) If you choose to continue forwarding your message, it will be unicast
'towards' the base station. The underlying MAC is broadcast, though, so this
is something you can exploit. I strongly encourage you to read sections
5.2.2 and 5.2.3 of the XMesh manual (its only 2 pages long!).

2) As you state, ReceiveMsg is an _interface_, so depending on what it is
wired to

3) Not sure what you mean. Its better to state what you want to achieve.

4) There's no context, so I don't know which one is correct (that's
essentially what you are interested in). I usually use the latter format to
fill an outgoing message.

5? ) Use MODE_ONE_HOP_BROADCAST. You need section 5.2.1 of the XMesh
manual.

Re: [Tinyos-help] Collection Protocol

2010-11-09 Thread Yong, Chee Yeew
Yes, Moteworks comes with XMesh, but not CTP. I am not familiar with CTP, so
I'm not sure it's equivalent to XMesh. XMesh forms a routing tree rooted at
the base station (node id=0) for forwarding data from nodes to the base
station.

Since MEMSIC bought Crossbow's WSN arm, input from Crossbow's WSN developers
and support team have been non-existent here - they used to reply here to
questions related to their platform or Moteworks specifically. So, I would
proceed with caution if you want to use Moteworks; as Urs mentioned, help
will be spotty at best.

Not being a lot of help here, but I measured / calculated the input
impedance of the MDA300 ADC input recently, and it gave me 500kOhms.

Tinyos 1.1.* and tinyos 2.* are not compatible. So, no, you cannot just
'update' the tinyos - at least, its not straightforward.
Why don't you just uninstall Moteworks and install tinyos-2 ?

CTP is available only on 2.x. You can look at apps/tests/TestNetwork
for an example on how to use it.

Unless you have some randomisation before you transmit packets, sounds like
your packets are interfering with each other. SendDone can be signaled even
if packet's lost in propagation (I think..).

As XServe is proprietary software (even if it is free to use), and Crossbow
(or MEMSIC) hasn't made a Linux specific release, you're out of luck.
However, it runs in Cygwin, so it might work in Linux? Try it out and let us

[Tinyos-help] MDA300 - ONE_SHOT parameter is invalid?

Hello all,

Does anyone know if the value 'ONE_SHOT' as an 'interval' parameter for the

The compiler is complaining - the only alternative I found is SAMPLE_ONCE -
is equivalent to ONE_SHOT?

Thanks.

RE: [Tinyos-help] Resizing message_t MTU problem

2008-02-21 Thread Yong, Chee Yeew
I am guessing here, but the first possibility that your serial port is not
fast enough to handle the amount of messages you are sending through it.
Therefore, as you increase the rate, new messages are in fact overwriting
the messages already 'in the pipe' (i.e. the serial port).
How are you writing to the serial port, on the base mote application? Have
you based your code on an existing application?

You may want to look at the source code for the Java serial forwarder
(Packetizer.java).

Subject: [Tinyos-help] Resizing message_t MTU problem

Dear all,
I've been trying to increase the performance of my modified BaseStation, but
I'm now unable to do more.
Problem: Sensors send messages to BaseStation, which receives these messages
containing different sizes. At the BaseStation, each message is time
stamped(Arrival Time), and forwarded to the serial port(UART). There's no
possibility to insert time stamps on the incoming message. The solution I
found is to change the MTU at the BaseStation to 42, so that, I create a new
message and the payload of the incoming message is copied to the new message
with higher payload and the time stamp is also inserted . These new message
will then be forwarded to the serial port. On a PC the arrival time can be
decoded through a packet parser that I developed.

The application is working fine, but my big challenge now is that I'm
getting so many "Bad Packets" in the Java application running in the PC. I
know that, the problem is at the BaseStation. With low traffic the
Application works quite fine, but with High traffic, it sends so many bad
packets. The resizing process cause delay to create a new message and to
forward the message to the Serial port, but what I don't understand, where
these bad packets are from?. And what could cause a packet to be considered
as a Bad Packet?. Because up to 97% of the packets are being correctly
received without errors in the Java App.

Any help is welcome.

RE: [Tinyos-help] some questiones about Xserve

2008-02-21 Thread Yong, Chee Yeew
I have not used the web server option before, but I'll try to help.

1) Which 'base station unit' are you using? MIB510 or MIB600?
2) a) If MIB510, does your PC or laptop have a serial port?
2) b) If MIB600, you need to change the arguments to xserve to point to that
device's IP address.

Subject: [Tinyos-help] some questiones about Xserve

Hi everyone:

Hope to gain some warm responses from you!

I encountered a problem after intalling MoteWorks, I want to visit the
Webside such as http://localhost:8080   through
Xserve WEB Interface as said in the MoteWorks Guide. Before visiting this
URL, the xserve must be started. the corresponding command in Cygwin is -h,
but here always appears the following output:

$ xserve -h
[2008/02/21 01:40:15] xdebug: could not open log file
/opt/MoteWorks/tools/xser
ve/bin/logs/xserve_log.txt: No such file or directory

Using params: [xml raw] [xml parsed] [xml converted] [server port=9001]
Opening serial device: /dev/ttyS0 @ 57600

XMonitor: XServ failure.
Evaluating process exit...
Exit status - Application Level Exit. No restart requested.
Signal Status - Normal.
wait: No error

So I want to ask some quesiones based on the above output:

1.What does the meaning of this output stand for? it seems that the
xserve.exe under the path.//opt/MoteWorks/tools/xserve/bin/bin, has not been
run.

2.what is /dev/ttyS0:57600, how to use it?

3.How to start Xserve normally in MoteWorks with the Cygwin command to visit
the web interface provided by Xserve?

4.is there a special CygWin.dll for Xserve? if so, how to
gain it? How to configure it in the MoteView and MoteWork for normal
operation?

Looking forwark for your help and reply!! Thank you very much!

Best Regards;

Maggie

Hi all

Recently I did some programming through NesC in few crossbow MICA MOTE for
monitoring the Light. The core program used was SenseToLed.nc in the apps
folder as shown below

 configuration SenseToLeds {}

implementation{

  components Main, SenseToInt, IntToLeds, TimerC, Photo;

   Main.StdControl -> SenseToInt;

  Main.StdControl -> IntToLeds;

   SenseToInt.Timer -> TimerC.Timer[unique("Timer")];

  SenseToInt.TimerControl -> TimerC;

  SenseToInt.ADC -> Photo;

  SenseToInt.ADCControl -> Photo;

  SenseToInt.IntOutput -> IntToLeds;

}

 This works well and I could able to modify this program to communicate the
reading over RF to a base station and further through serial port to PC. The
Same Code I modified for temperature monitoring as shown below, But I always
getting the 10 bit information readout of ADC as Zero.(In case of Photo I
could able to get real values and keeps changing when the sensor board
exposed to alternatively to dark and light)

 configuration SenseToLeds {}

implementation

{

  components Main, SenseToInt, IntToLeds, TimerC, Temp;

  Main.StdControl -> SenseToInt;

  Main.StdControl -> IntToLeds;

  SenseToInt.Timer -> TimerC.Timer[unique("Timer")];

  SenseToInt.TimerControl -> TimerC;

  SenseToInt.ADC -> Temp;

  SenseToInt.ADCControl -> Temp;

  SenseToInt.IntOutput -> IntToLeds;

}

 I am using MIB510 Serial port programmer, MPR2400 Mote processor and MTS310
Sensor Data Acquisition board. The MTS310 I have carries both Photo Sensor
and Temperature Sensor.

 If some one can help to sort the temperature monitoring problem.

Thanks in advance,

It would be helpful to state which version of TinyOS you are using.

Assuming you are using 1.1.10, try wiring ADC and ADCControl to PhotoTemp
(instead of Temp).

RE: [Tinyos-help] MIB600 115200

2007-10-03 Thread Yong, Chee Yeew
I believe that you can use the Lantronix Device Installer to look up any
MIB600s connected to a LAN. I don't know what protocol it uses to do this,
but perhaps Crossbow can explain this?

I do sometimes find that you can probe and find a MIB600 even if it is not
on the same IP subnet. Again, I don't know what are the circumstances that
this will definitely work. Perhaps if you are both connected on the same
network switch/hub?

By the way, you can set the MIB600's IP address using the Lantronix Device
Installer.

RE: [Tinyos-help] Wiring parameterised interfaces

2007-08-01 Thread Yong, Chee Yeew
Thanks for the reply, but I wish it was that easy to solve.

I believe the problem to be that I am wiring the Timer erroneously in TestC.
However, I cannot put my finger on why my wiring is not acceptable to ncc.

[Tinyos-help] Wiring parameterised interfaces

2007-07-31 Thread Yong, Chee Yeew
Hello all,

I am having a bit of a problem wiring parameterised interfaces. The program
is as below.

I keep getting the error:
"MyTimers.start() not connected".

I am not sure why it is complaining when I clearly have MyTimers wired in
the Configuration file.
My environment is Cygwin with TinyOS 1.1.10.

Thanks for any help/advice.

Regards,
Chee

=
Configuration file (TestC.nc):
configuration TestC {
}
implementation {
  components Main, TestM, TimerC;
  Main.StdControl -> TestM;
  TestM.MyTimers[0] -> TimerC.Timer[unique("Timer")];
  TestM.TimerControl -> TimerC;
}

==
Module file (TestM.nc):
module TestM {
  provides interface StdControl;
  uses {
interface Timer as MyTimers[uint8_t tid];
interface StdControl as TimerControl;
  }
}
implementation {
  event result_t MyTimers.fired[uint8_t tid]() {
return SUCCESS;
  }

  command result_t StdControl.init() {
return call TimerControl.init();
  }

  command result_t StdControl.start() {
call TimerControl.start();
call MyTimers.start[0](TIMER_ONE_SHOT, 1000);
return SUCCESS;
  }

  command result_t StdControl.stop() {
return SUCCESS;
  }
}
