RE:[tips] word confusions- one more
Finally, someone can tell me if the term went missing is actually correct, as in: The two hikers went missing shortly after sunset. It sounds so wrong! Pat Santoro --- To make changes to your subscription contact: Bill Southerly (bsouthe...@frostburg.edu)

Here is Grammar Girl's take on went missing. http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/went-missing.aspx She says that it is correct, a British usage dating to at least the 1940s that has gained a footing in the US recently. I love this Britishism, but do not know if it's grammatically correct in UK: American Me: Is she going home after dinner? British You: She might do (or just, Might do.) Paul --- To make changes to your subscription contact: Bill Southerly (bsouthe...@frostburg.edu)

RE: [tips] word confusions- one more
Reminds me of the time when I worked a night shift job as an undergraduate and one of the supervisors tried to get us a “night differential” raise by arguing that he would have a “moral problem” on the night shift if we didn’t get the raise! Heh . . . I did persuade him to add an “e” to improve the memo. J Claudia J.
