[tips] New? Course
Our department is working on developing a new (for us) course to cover those topics all of get asked, including: What can I do with my degree in Psychology? What graduate programs are there? How do I go about applying to graduate school? What do I need to apply? What careers are available? and most of the others you can think of. We are thinking about a 2-credit course required of all majors, to be taken sometime before the senior year. If any of you have such courses, I would appreciate any syllabi, information, etc. that will help use avoid the pitfalls. We are particularly looking to have the course be an one-line course, so any help or sage advice (don’t do it?) along those lines would be extremely useful. Thank you in advance for all your wise counsel, Joel Joel S. Freund, Ph. D. [tips] Underwood quote
To David and other tipsters, I was very interested in the quote that David found, so I searched for the first 9 words of the quote and also found the quote on page 96. However, it was in a volume titled Psychological Research by an M. Asch. The bio says of her: ...a keen researcher and a teacher in the filed of guidance and counselling, [sic] did her Postgraduation [sic] and Doctorate from a leading university in Ontario. She has been actively involved in teaching and research work for the last five years. Her vast experience has been carefully incorporated in this book. The book is published in 2005 by Sarup Sons, New Delhi, ISBN 81-7625-558-0. Some of the chapters differ from Underwood's, but all those that are from his book have been lifted verbatim; I suspect the others have been lifted from other sources. The quote from his text actually appears on page 87 in my copy of the text, which, I purchased new for $4.50 (long ago). Joel S. Freund, Ph. D. I've looked around the web for some time without any success, so have turned as a last resort to this august (ahem...) and cheerful band of scholars. Here's what I recall, and I hope it's not a Loftus-esque false memory, which I seem to be experiencing more and more these days. It's from a famous psychologist (yeah, I know that's really helpful), and the gist goes something remotely like this. One's reaction to a manuscript rejection occurs in three phrases...first, one becomes angry at how stupid the reviewers are; second , one realizes that the reviewers may have a few valid points here and there; and third and finally, one is relieved that the manuscript wasn't accepted for publication in its original form. Does anyone out there recall any quotation at all like this? (if not, maybe I'm just confabulating the whole darned thing...) [tips] Paper Journals
Tipsters, I am beginning to clean up my office, and I have a library of experimental psychology journals starting in the 1960s and continuing to the present. Most are complete sets, although some have issues missing. I would like to donate them to a college or university library. All I ask is for them to cover the cost of shipping. If you know of a school that might be interested, have them contact me. I can send a list. A partial list of the titles is below. Thank you for any help you can provide. Joel Joel S.
