Rig Control

2022-05-25 Thread Ed
I use a ic-7300 and have it set to use USB0, but I get no rig control.

Not sure how to correct this, the 7300 uses a symlink to USB0, so how
do I get this to work ?

/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_CP2102_USB_to_UART_Bridge
+_Controller_IC-7300_02038316-if00-port0

this is how I use my USB-serial converter.

I have an udev rule:

$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/21-persistent-local.rules
ATTRS{manufacturer}=="Prolific Technology Inc.", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0557",
ATTRS{idProduct}=="2008", SYMLINK+="rig0"

so when I attached the converter (or boot my system), udev
creates a device with name /dev/rig0.

After that, I can use it in config:

RADIO_CONTROL
RIGMODEL=2009
RIGSPEED=4800
RIGPORT=/dev/rig0

You have to create your own udev rule for your device.

That should be a symlink to the actual tty device. On my system it is
/dev/ttyUSB0.

pi@pi2:~ $ ls -l /dev/serial/by-id
total 0
...
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 May 17 10:50
usb-Silicon_Labs_CP2102_USB_to_UART_Bridge_Controller_IC-7300_02034059-if00-port0
-> ../../ttyUSB0

So in logcfg.dat:

RIGMODEL=373
RIGPORT=/dev/ttyUSB0
RIGSPEED=19200

I recall the USB driver for that chip is picky about the baud rate, and
I think I had to set it to 19200 to make things work.

The ttyUSBx device name can change on reboot if you have multiple USB
serial devices. Hence the previous suggestion to create a unique name
via a udev rule.

On my system I created:
/etc/udev/rules.d/99-radio.rules

which contains the lines:

SUBSYSTEM=="tty", KERNEL=="ttyUSB*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="10c4", \
ATTRS{idProduct}=="ea60", SYMLINK+="ttyUSB-ic7300"

Udev will then always create a unique symlink: /dev/ttyUSB-ic7300 that
you can use as the RIGPORT.

Same as here,except this error in tlf

Rignumber is 373
Rig speed is 19200
Trying to start rig ctrl
rig_open: error

here is my setup

RIGMODEL=373
RIGSPEED=19200
RIGPORT=/dev/ttyUSB0

I have no experience with udev and it is going to be a challange

Hey, folks:

Please explain why people don't just set it in the TLF config file like:

RIGPORT=/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_CP2102_USB_to_UART_Bridge+_Controller_IC-7300_02038316-if00-port0

That's what I've been doing with my IC-7200 (which has a slightly different
id), and it's been working fine on two different computers. No mucking around
with udev rules required. Is there some hidden problem with that approach that
just hasn't happened to me yet?
