Jill,

I've been on Prednisone off and on since 1983.numerous side effects, but it
also does some good..thru the years I took 'dose-paks' for my bad outbreaks
of eczemaseveral times I'd be put on 100mg amd then be backed off
slowly

Never just go off!! that could kill you, depending size of dosage, altho' when my
hubby had strained muscles in his chest and they knew it had nothing to do
with his heart, they gave him 50mg two days and then stopped it.
Side effects I've experienced are loss of bone density, steroid induced cataracts,
cataract induced diabetes, weight gain, etc.I'm on low dosage 20 mg in a.m. since
I had sweats, chills in 2004 which after 2 weeks in 2 hospitals they discovered was
something in my liver...it's gone now, but when they try to wean me completely
off, I start sweats, chills again.

Personally I hate to take it, but the other option is worseso, you do what you
have to do, and go on with life!

At onset and diagnosis of tm, I fought idea of IV steroid treatment but listened
to doctors and got 1000 units by IV for 5 days then was slowly weaned with
oral pred..there's worse things, and by listening to drs, I came away from
onset to become one of walking woumded.

Hope my rambling has helped!! janh

P.S. If you have other questions I'll try to answer them.jh

Is anyone out there? I'm weaning off my prednisone now and had a few questions.
Thanks,
Jill

My Deareast of Freinds, To so a simple thank you is it seems not quite significant enough to say to you how much it means to send out a call for help like I had to do concerning my son. At a time like this when I felt embarrassed to ask for money from people who actually don't owe my family a thing and to see the out pouring of love and sympathy from many of you was an amazing thing. Its hard for me to put into words the way it made me feel just knowing that you all felt my need and distress in this difficult time in our life with the loss of a son, a freind and such a tender spirit. Jeff when he was alive read many of the letters from the fine people and was, to say the least, amazed at the amount of caring from people on the list for each other. He was so proud, knowing my condition, that I found you all. He could not believe how willing we all were to give advise to each other in our times of need. If it helps to sustain us, know this, he is in Heaven, of this I am sure, spreading to our heavenly Father the fact that people are good and in a time of need that my needs were met by the most unlikely source, handicapped people like me who were there in my time of need. We have all been bless by a crippling disease, not by the way it affected our mortal body but by our mortal heart. We all deserve a huge hug and a pat on the back. I cannot express in words the pride I have for the TMA and the IDC. To say anything more than thank you all, I just don't have the words in my vocabulary to express how I feel for the out pouring of love. Just let me say thank you for your help and you can let your mind tell you how proud you should feel for what you did for someone you barely know. Again Thank you and concider yourself blessed by God our Father. With all my love, Rick Ashford

Hi Gang, First I would like to really thank those of you who shared your prayers and dug into your pockets for me. Its quite humbling to see such and output love true and caring. I was quite embarased to have to come to you with a request, but you are my family and after conciderable thought, I figured It couldn't hurt to ask. You responded with prayers and a total of about $650. I will be writting the people who actually sent money seperately, I owe you all so much. this has been a very trying time for us all and It seemed to hit my wife and me very hard, we still can't believe Jeff is gone. I personally have had a big set back in my TM I think because of my helplessness to take the lead and to really take care off the expence brought own by this tragic event. I'm better now and My Dr. was wonderfull and helped me through it. My Pastor Dr. Greg Jordan was a big part of keeping us sane and grounded WE thank you all so much. I really can't say much more than that. God Bless Us All. Your friend Rich Ashford

First I would like to thank Jenna for coming to the hospital to help me today (and the visit was great)
Nero left and good news the paralysis and stinging in my arms and hands has nothing to do with my TM. The MRI’s they did last night found 3 herniated discs on my neck that is causing spinal cord depression causing my arms and hands to go numb. He called neurosurgeon to come see me tomorrow and let me know what my options will be. So far a friend that had the same this said the least evasive is to inject steroids directly into the disc to stop the bone on bone rub and release the compression on the spinal cord this is good news!!! So this explains why after receiving the first dose of IV steroids my arms and hand improved 90% within 5 hours.
If it were TM related the damage can not be reversed! But the herniated disc can be repaired! So YIPPIE!!!

Down side right now is with all the steroids I have not slept at ALL since I go up Wed at 6:30 am, serious best I have done is a 20 minute nap today! They gave me morphine and Ambian sleep pills tonight so hoping I get some sleep tonight! I am starting to feel like a zombie going thru the motions, getting harder to focus with sleep deprivation.

Will post what Nero-surgeon says once I hear from them tomorrow

Again thanks for the one on one email I have gotten the concern and advice mean a lot to me
What a great second family we all have in each other! Note J

Note: to the Atlanta TM suport group if I get out of the hospital by Sunday in time for our meeting I will be there!!

My dear friends, I' never heard of the notion of a state or city volintatily doing any thing for free , there has to be a hitch in someone giddy up to think that this county, city town and all there ride thier golden horses they ride on on. For instance when we had a tornado blow through here they had the nerve to first raise our taxes, and then take a whole page on our local news paper to beg for and demand an increase to pick up the ruins left. We just spent 12 milion dollars on a new jail full of good people who would love to have a few days in the sun cleaning up after this natural disaster. Instead the would rather punish these people by letting them sit around and do nothing. I'd sell my soul to the devil before I'd let them take charge of buring Jeff. We like a little over three thousand dollars. Plus what ever a headstone costs. But we spent everything we could muster up and I must say he went in style. Thank you Jude, Gunny and everyone for your generosity. It could only happen here where love exists. I just can't say how much this means to Jeannette and me. God built this list and with out a doubt he doesn't half way do anything. What goes around comes around. God ,Father,an Jesus, thank you for this brother and sisterhood and especially take care of our dear Jude. Protect us and surround us with this type of love, a lesson we learned from you. Thank you and I can't say what a family we have. Love Jeanette.Rick and our family.

  Hello All,

Thank you so much for the kind,
positive response regarding my plea for Rick
Ashford.

I do have one thing to
say... It seems to be the same people who always respond to those of
us in need, that emailed me.Maybe there are a bunch of
you out there who read the List that are sending a donation to Rick's
request, and simply haven't emailed me about it. I hope and Pray
that people have done just that.

  However, Rick needs donations from
more than the few people who always respond to those of us in need.
The rest of you, who haven't sent Rick the money he needs so badly, please
think about it again and dig deep into your pockets and send him
  something.

I will post his address again when
I can find where I wrote it down. If anyone else wants to post it,
that would be a great help. And, those of you who would rather send
your donation to me, I will then pass it on to Rick and will be sure
to give you credit for being so generous.

The guidelines need to include "political messages"
We are one group united by our common factor TM. but when a
member spouts political rhetoric we are divided into the right and
the left. There are tons of groups devoted to this type of political
banter but only one for TM sufferers! I happen to be very
politically active (even volunteering for my party) but I respect the
rights of my fellow TM family members to have their Own Opinion
politically, I respect that they were not born yesterday, have
a lifetime of experiences shaping their views and have
asovereignright to their opinions! keep politics out of

pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This
will serve to give those of you who are underachieving a "fair
shake." 2. All low level
workers will be pooling their wages, including overtime, into a
common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves. This will
help those who are "too busy for overtime" to reap the rewards from
those who have more spare time and can work extra
hours.3. All top management will now
be referred to as "the government." We will not participate in
this "pool ing" experience because the law doesn't apply to
us.4. The "government" will give
