Re: [TMIC] DRUG ADDICTION
NAOMI YOUR NOT ADDICTED. I ASKED MY DOCTOR ABOUT THIS. I DO NOT TAKE AS MUCH MEDS AS YOU DO, BUT I KNOW FROM HAVING TM FOR ALMOST 18 YEARS YOUR NOT. I TRIED A EXPERIMENT, I STOPPED THE VALIUM, THE HYDROCODENE, THE SOMA AND THE NEURINTIN, THATS ALL I TAKE FOR TM, I WAS ON IMURAN AND BONIVA. WELL I HURT LIKE HELL FOR 2 DAYS BUT I DID NOT HAVE A WITHDREAWAL SYMPTOM AT ALL. I STARTED BACK ON MY MEDS. YOUR PHARMACY WILL NOT FILL A NARCOTIC BUT ONCE A MONTH, SO JUST DIO WHAT YOU HAVE TO . THIS TM BULL IS A NIGHMARE AND I DO NOT HAVE IT AS BAD AS ALOT OF YOU DO. I TRY RELAXATION TAPES, I THINK THE POOL IS GREAT, HERE OUTSIDE OF NEW ORLEANS YOU CAN USE IT ALL YEAR. THIS WAS A COLD WINTER WE HAD SNOW, ITS A GOOD THING THAT MY HUSBAND WAS A PLUMBING CONTRACTOR SO OUR POOL IS HEATED. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE NOW. YOU DO WHAT YOUR DOCTORS TELL YOU.YOUR NOT GOING TO GET ADDICTED, TRUST ME, I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE. GOD BLESS TIAD PAM! PS I FELL I HURT MY BACK WHERE THE HERNIATED DISC IS AT, I UPED MY MEDS IN MY OWN AND I SEE MY REHAB DOCTOR ON THE FIRST SHE WILL FUSS AT ME ORDER A MRI. I AM JUST RESTING AND RELAXING I N THE POOL, THE FLOWING WATER POOL IS THE BEST BUT IT WOULD COST TO MUCH MONEY TO HAVE IT PUT IN MY POOL, I GO TO THE HOSPITAL POOL AND I USE IT WITH THE PT GROUP, I LOVE THAT THE BEST FOR MY PAIN AND THE ECHO MASSAGE, I GO 2 TIMES A MONTH FOR A MASSAGE IT HELPS ME ALOT!!! Re: [TMIC] Drug addiction
Jude, Thank you so much for the information you gave me regarding my question on drug addiction. It's good to get advice from someone who has experienced such things themselves. I did not know, that the spasms from not taking the Baclofen, could be very painful or cause death. That is very useful information. I will consult my physician, when I decide to wean off the Baclofen. I am just concerned, about the effect all of these drugs, are taking on my body. I do have regular blood work for liver screening. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems. I'm just hoping it stays that way. Jude, you have certainly been through way too much pain and suffering, for any one person. I send you blessings for continued recovery. Naomi C-4 Quadriplegic, since July 2, 2005 Due to Transverse Myelitis **A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps! Re: [TMIC] Drug addiction
Gosh, Naomi, You sure do need a good provider to go over your meds with you and do something about your continuing pain. I do know from nursing that the patients that became addicted to their meds got to the point where they just could not do without them. I personally don't know what they were feeling but I do know how they reacted when they were told they could not get an early refill or needed to see the doctor before they could get any more. Some even went from doctor to doctor to get more but I think the pharmacy's now have it on computer so if patients try that the pharmacist can catch it. I think they may be tied in together just for that reason. Some tried changing the amounts on their script. Some tried calling in under a nurse's name and we even had one come in, lay down on one of our exam beds while sobbing that she was not going to leave until she got more meds. It is not a good thing to become addicted to them. It is good that you are concerned. But with you when you have serious questions about your meds, you need someone to truly sit down and talk to you about possibly changing them in order to help you. If your provider does not have time, go to someone that will!!! I have taken so many different pain medications, over the past nearly four years, I don't think they work for me anymore I am currently taking, Percocet 5/375mg or Vicodin 7.5/750mg 4 X daily, Lyrica 800mg, Fentanyl patch 125mcg every three days. After taking all this pain medicine, I still have excruciating pain in my hands, legs and feet. As long as I've been taking these drugs, I have never had the feeling of euphoria or being high. My pain just increase, if I don't take my medicine on time. I experience blurred vision, sleepiness, lack of concentration and memory; and the fact that I have recently had my Baclofen pump turned off, and now take oral Baclofen four times a day, does not help the situation any. I have never tried to wane myself off the medicine, in fear of the pain I may experience from not taking it. I hear of people being addicted to painkillers, does that mean that they are getting a high from taking it, or that they can't stop taking it because of their pain? Re: [TMIC] Drug addiction
Naomi, I can't begin to understand your position, but if I were you I would print out a copy of the email you just wrote here and show it to your neurologist. He needs to know where you are coming from and how affected by TM you are. So many times when we go see the doc, we start forgetting either the questions we usually have or get shy about facing the doc with the concerns we have. You are needing help and I think you did a really good job of laying it all out in your email.Don't let the doc blow you off - be persistant in letting him/her know you need help. Please let us know what you did and if you are feeling better.
