Other answers already were given, this is an alternative that *might*
help if it is startup environment variables you are interested in. If
you add a file to TOMCAT_HOME/bin/ and call that file setenv.sh it
will run this file and set environment variables in it. I had to do this
on fedora core 2, I found adding to individual files plus other ones
already mentioned always left something broken. Add file
TOMCAT_HOME/bin/setenv.sh with these contents fixed everything for me:

 #!/bin/sh

 export JAVA_HOME=/opt/jdk1.5.0
 export CATALINA_HOME=/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.30

You can use an editor to create this file, then chmod u+x setenv.sh to
make sure it is executable (linux can use filenames as hints but really
has no defined name for type of file, chmod makes it executable).

mod_jk2 and subdirectories

2004-08-19 Thread Webmaster
Hi all,

I'm trying to upgrade a setup I was using with mod_jk to mod_jk2.

This setup has 2 workers. Here it is:

With mod_jk:

JkMount /webapp1/*.jsp worker1
JkMount /webapp2/*.jsp worker2

Everything works fine if call, for instance, http://localhost/webapp1/admin/login.jsp

With mod_jk2 I'm trying:
Location /webapp1/*.jsp
  JkUriSet worker ajp13:localhost:8009
/Location
Location /webapp2/*.jsp
  JkUriSet worker ajp13:localhost:8010
/Location

If I call http://localhost/webapp1/login.jsp, it works, but if I call:
http://localhost/webapp1/admin/login.jsp, it doesn't !! Since I don't know which
subdirectories I'll have, I don't want to hardcode all the entries

What can I do ?

Thanks !!
Renato.

Do you have the exception? Which Tomcat version are you using?

I'm using 4.1.29. The classes that hibernate creates dinamically are the ones that
don't follow the codebase anymore, it's like they have a 'null' codebase after they
are created.

Are there any security risks on a security setup with those 3 lines for all classes
 in the JVM ?

Yes. It will now allow a Servlet to load tomcat internal classes and
 maybe do malicious things.

Right now, my clients don't have permissions to read the classes in /server/lib
directory ( I don't give file io permission to this directory, only to /common/lib ).
Would that be enough to stop these malicious things ?

Could you give an example of how a malicious code could affect the security of the JVM
?

Usually I have a codebase policy like this for each user:

permission java.io.FilePermission /home/client/public_html/-, read,write,delete;

I guess that if someone writes a piece of code that tries to acess private functions,
static variables, etc from other libraries in different directories, this policy will
intercept the request and the malicious code will not work. Am I right ? Is there a
way that somebody could write code that uses the catalina classes in order to do
something bad ?

Yeah, that's too bad. The SuppressAccessChecks permission is dangerous,
if malicious code is running inside your VM.

IP Addresses on Subnets, etc.

2003-12-15 Thread webmaster
I want to use my home computer for some development on Tomcat. I
frequently use a laptop which is on a home combination wire and wireless
router (one wireless and four wires). How can I find out the ip address of
each machine in the the network? A call to the ip address of the laptop
yields the subnet address 192.168.0.101, which, of course, is not the real
ip address. A determination by examining a request object sent from the
laptop reveals an alias of some sort from the isp. So, somewhere in
between is the real ip address of the laptop. How do I find that? Thanks.

Re: IP Addresses on Subnets, etc.

2003-12-15 Thread webmaster
Hi, Alan,

The folks in the know suggested this as the appropriate list. I am not
trying to obtain an ip address in order to access locally Tomcat, but to
access Tomcat globally. Therefore, the local subnet address will not
help. By a request object, I mean an http request object that I send to an
outside computer and which, then, holds under request.getRemoteAddr()the ip
address. However, this appears to be an alias ip address which resolves to
a remote host that is the isp address preceeded by a series of hexadecimal
numbers. Does that help?

At 07:57 AM 12/15/2003, you wrote:
!!! u r posting a question about networking, this is the wrong place to

but i will answer ur question anyway:

u r behind a router, think of a router as two pieces, a piece that talks
to the outside world (the internet) and a piece that allows your internal
network to communicate with itself, between these two pieces is a firewall
now, if ur on a pc network like me, the easiest way to figure out a
computer's INTERNAL IP (because thats the ip u want) is to go to Start -
Run ... - type: cmd then hit Enter - type: ping computer-name then
hit Enter
this will reveal the computer's internal IP
now, that piece on ur router that talks to the outside world u can
consider it as a computer that has not only an internal IP but also an
external one (the external IP is the one ur ISP assigns to u)
i dont know what u mean by request object and i dont know what program u
r using to talk to each of the computers on ur local network, but u
shouldn't have to go outside of ur router and then back in to talk to a
computer that is local on ur network

mod_jk feature question

2003-10-08 Thread webmaster
Hi all,

I don't know if mod_jk supports this. I usually integrate Tomcat and Apache by mapping
*.jsp and /servlet/ to Tomcat and leaving everything else to Apache.

But there is a situation where I need to let Tomcat server everything BUT images (
*.gif and *.jpg ). How can I do this with mod_jk ? If it's not possible to do with
mod_jk, is it possible to do in another way (like mod_rewrite maybe ? )

Thanks
Renato.

problems with different tomcat-axis

2003-09-04 Thread Webmaster
hi to all,
I've a big inknown problem.
I'm developing a web application with a VB-SOAP client.
I'm using some java servlet in tomcat-axis.
I have a LAN for testing my web application. It's all ok: any PC with
tomcat running working fine.
Any PC with my VBclient communicate with the current tomcat running. (All
under windows).

Now, I'va built a web server, mount in my provider, with linux, tomcat and
axis.
I've upload on this server my context axis and my web app, under
var/tomcac4/webapps
but my VBclient, on my PC, doesn't communicate with the remote application.

I don't know about this! The error occourred is (in VB): WSDLReader:
XMLParse error

bou i've installed all the necessary library on my PC, instead the MSSOAP
Toolkit

It may be a problem of versions?

I'm also a newbie for using linux and line command-compiling (to trying it
on the server...).
I haven't found anything about this error on Internet, my description is in
Italina, but can be translate in Impossible to find the specific resource.

thank to all,

Tiziana

reloadable='true' and MBean

2003-06-25 Thread webmaster
Hi all,

I'm using Tomcat 4.1.24 with some virtual users on it. I'd like to give my users the
flexibility to change their
Context properties on the fly ( like reloadable='false' for instance ), but I don't
want to give them access to
MBean application.

Is it possible ? How can I do a 'wrapper' so I can customize my own application ?

Thanks

Time Out (I need help!)

2002-10-23 Thread Webmaster - Unimed Piracicaba
Hi people!

I am getting some problems with time out when a client tries to send
a (around) 800kb file to my server via JSPSmartUpload. I think that
if I set the timeout to a bigger time this problem will be solved, but
I don't know how to do it...

1) How do I to re-set the timeout of tomcat (or apache)? (not the
session time-out)

2) Does Somebody have the same problem with JSPSmartUpload or other
upload package??

Thank u all!!

Dear Sir/Madam

We are conducting some research concerning the public's opinion about the
level of ethics in advertising. As you may be aware, many companies have
ethical advertising policies. Furthermore, the media (i.e. TV, Radio,
Magazines and Newspapers) have governmental and non-governmental
organizations that are suppose to monitor the ethical content of
advertisements. The questions we want to address in this study are whether,
in the public's opinion, (a) this control is really maintaining a high level
of ethics in advertising executions; (b) what are the main issues in
advertising ethics that should be dealt with in order to ensure this high
ethical level, and (c) if ethics impacts consumers attitudes and behaviours
towards firms that maintain high levels of ethics in their business and
advertisings, which may be reflected in the company's society and

Subject: URL Problem with blanks in names

 Hi,

how can I create a link (A HREF...) to a file with blank in either the
 directory or in the filename?

 I mean for example: A HREF=/images/a b.gifOpen/A

I tried to create the link using URLEncoder.encode(..) but the created
link
 didn't work either.

 INÉDITO : PESQUISADORES CAPTAM SINAL
EXTRATERRESTRE.

(O SINAL CAPTADO)
