Double check it. To remove the admin application remove webapps/admin.xml.

If I use http://mail.xxx.net/grouplink , I get to my webapp.

Check whether the web application is configured in the server.xml.
Some other reasons may be grouplink is a directory name in the
application or a context configured in that name or some other URL
mapped in web.xml. You can check this by looking at webapps folder. If
grouplink is inside webapps, it is a context. ie. a web application.
If it is inside webapps/ROOT, it is a directory inside that web
application.

Could someone point me in the right direction? How/where do I configure an
 alias?

I have Aliasmysite.com/Alias in server.xml nested inside the
Host/ element. You should have a valid DNS entry for mysite.com.

Logging assistance.

2005-04-11 Thread Scott Purcell
Hello,
I am trying to get the logging to work for a webapp I am working on. I am using
Tomcat 5.5.7 and I am here:
http://localhost/tomcat-docs/logging.html

I followed the instructions but do not get what I assume is proper behavior.

1) created the log4j.properties file and placed under common/classes.

2) then I made sure I got the latest logj.jar and commons-logging.jar and
placed both under common/lib

Then in my JSP file I have this:
%@ page import=org.apache.log4j.Logger %
% log.debug(alive.); %

Now I see the log file that was created, named Tomcat.log, but all that is in
there are a bunch of Catalina messages and not my alive statement?

Anyone have an idea why this is not working? Do I need to create a resource, or
something outside the docs?

Thanks,

Configuration Assistance Request - Apache 2.0.5 - Tomcat 4.1.3 - Tomcat 4.1.3 Connector - JK2

2004-09-04 Thread Cary Conover
Hello Folks,

It has been a long week. I finally got the Apache 2.0.50 to compile on AIX 5.2. I
had to use gcc to get it done. Too many issues with C for AIX 6.

Have moved on. Got Jakarta 4.1.3 installed from fresh copy that I got from the
jakarta site. I also used the Jakarta 4.1.3 connectors to compile the mod_jk.so.

I have gotten Tomcat to start on 8080 and 49080 and change control for ajp13 from 8009
to 49009. No problems getting the Tomcat working as long as I worked in the
CATALINA_HOME. Ever since I started making the CATALINA_BASE the configuration has
been amiss.

Have found some notes on the internet yet it is very vague.

Have

http://starbase:49080/examples works and all subdirectories
http://starbase:49080/tomcat-docs works as well.

Form-based authentication assistance

2002-10-25 Thread Scott Purcell
Hello,

I am trying to understand how the built-in forms validation works in tomcat 4.03 on
win.

I believe that I have my web.xml file correct, (below). All appears good. If I put in
a bad username and passoword, I go to the error page, but if I successed, it throws up
an error, [Invalid direct reference to form login page].

Which makes sense, I guess it is submitting it back and the URL shows
[http://localhost/altercast/j_security_check]

How do I forward the user to a good login page, if they pass the basic authentication?

My page is /loginpage.html

PINPUT TYPE=PASSWORD NAME=j_password VALUE= SIZE=15

So be warned. This is a known trick from criminal organizations.

Lately, they have changed their modus operandi. They tell you it is necessary for you
to come to: Nigeria, Angola or even Amsterdam, to sign some contract, act on a phony
ID or just be there. Afterwards, they put you up in a nice, quiet and secluded
residence, where you get persuaded to participate in some other business
arrangements.

That's what I've heard, so don't take my word for it. See for yourselves - *if you are
totally crazy*!!!

Nix.

Dos Santos, who has been my late father's rival for years. Now the
liberation of Angola, for which my father has been fighting for since 1966
 has no future.

President Dos Santos, remains a colossal failure since he assumed
office. He is running a government of greed and gross marginalisation.
The United States of America, the United Kingdom and other Western
powers, are aware of this glaring fact, and have done nothing about
it. It is most unfortunate and disheartening that my father has died.
Now UNITA is like a herd of cattle without shepherd. Prominent members
are now lobbying to assume office as leader to enrich themselves
and some of them who see me as a threat to their ambitions, are
even plotting to kill me. However, I am a young man who has ambitions
and is not in any way interested in wars.

I write to seek for your urgent help in respect to safe keeping
of some of my father's money(US$25.4Million) that arose from Diamonds
sales. This money(US$25.4Million) was already on its way to my father's
Swiss bank account and is in transit with a safe deposit company
in Amsterdam, Netherlands. We used major part of our money in prosecuting
the war. It is very clear with the way things are now, that President
Dos Santos will freeze my father's assests and accounts in this
country to ground UNITA. I wish to use this money to safeguard my future.

It is paramount that you understand that the kind of trust and confidence
being reposed in you is extraordinary, and that this is an act of
desperation. ALSO, THIS CONTACT WITH YOU SHUOLD BE TREATED WITH
 UTMOST SECRECY AND CONFIDENTIALITY.

The help I need from you is clearing the money which is deposited
with a security company in Amsterdam, after which, a professional
banker, who is an attachi of IMF will join you and assist in depositing
the money and lodging into an account in your name. The money shall
remain in your custody till I decide to leave Angola. In the interim,
the money can be invested into riskfree profitable ventures, and
there will an agreement by my lawyer to protect my interest. I have
all the documents that will enable you claim the consignment from
the security company. I will reward you with 20% of the money.

I to thank you in advance in anticipation for your assistance in
 enabling me achieve this goal.

Please contact me whether or not you are interested in assisting
me. This will enable me scout for another partner in the event of
 noninterest on your part.

 With best regards,

 Mr.Thomas Savimbi.

newbie assistance with catalina.policy

2002-06-13 Thread David Boyer

I realize I can use a - or * at the end of my pathname. Can I use
one in the middle?

I have approximately 1,200 user webs that I'd like to enable for JSPs
with Jakarta Tomcat. I'd like each user to have write access to a
/webdata folder withing their web:

permission java.io.FilePermission
d:\\Inetpub\\Wwwroot\\dev\\jtest\\students\\-\\webdata\\-, read,
write;

The directory name between students and webdata will be different for
each student. How do I handle a varying directory name in the middle of
the path?

Any suggestion, or am I stuck creating a separate application context
in server.xml for each user?

2002-06-01 Thread joelh

Over the course of two days I have sent in 8 e-mails requesting to be unsubscribed

my address from the list. This is beyond a minor annoyance now, and has begun to be
harassment. I'm beginning to be an advocate of WebLogic and Sun ONE.

newbie assistance with catalina.policy

2002-04-29 Thread David Boyer

I'm using Novell's eCommerce beans for LDAP authentication, and my JSP
works fine until I start tomcat with security manager. I've resolved
several errors by modifying catalina.policy, but I can't seem to get
past this one:

com.novell.ecb.CommandException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission
C:\j2sdk1.4.0\jre\lib\security\java.security read)

I've added this line to the web applications section of
catalina.policy, but the error persists:
permission java.io.FilePermission
file:${java.home}/jre/lib/security/java.security, read;

Any suggestions on what I need to do? Thanks!

2001-12-18 Thread Richard S. Huntrods

Richard,

I don't mess with CLASSPATH or the copying the jar files to
JDK/jre/lib/ext directory. I use JBuilder 5 Personal to compile my
java
classes. That way you just point the IDE to the libs that you want to
include in the project. You can tell the IDE to use the jar's that
Tomcat is currently using without copying them to another directory (as

well as Struts or anything else you are using).

P.S. JBuilder 5 Personal is free from Borland. :)

Barry

Barry,

Thanks for the info on Borland. I have 4 professional, due to my
teaching of Java. You are quite correct about it's handling of class
libraries - it is quite good at that. I have also got VisualAge 3.2 and
Together 5. All have many plusses, and some minuses.

In the end, because I wanted a stock compile environment that I could
use on any machine (i.e. W2K or Solaris), I went with the Sun Java SDK
plus a good editor (WinEdit, although Crimson is also good - and free).
The benefit is that anything that compiles on W2K will also compile
exactly the same way on Solaris. I know there are versions of many
IDE's for Solaris, but I cannot afford the time to learn them at
present.

Thanks again and cheers,

-Richard

Assistance please - fixed W2k 4.0 vs 4.0.1 problem, created another!

2001-12-17 Thread Richard S. Huntrods

Greetings!

I have solved my problem on W2K where Tomcat 4.0 worked, but Tomcat
4.0.1 did not.

I simply moved some jar files (most importantly servlet.jar) from
JDK/jre/lib/ext into somewhere else (a temp directory).

Now Tomcat 4.0.1 runs perfectly. Obviously the occurance of TWO
servlet.jar files was causing all my problems.

BUT - Now I have a new problem, for which I would like to solicit some
advice.

NOW - I cannot compile servlets. The problem is historic - I hate the
classpath, as almost everyone who tries to use classpath gets into big
trouble - *eventually*. I teach Java at the University level, and
classpath is a nightmare for students.

But - most of the time you do not need any classpath at all, as Java is
very intelligent about finding what it needs. Hence my use of the
JDK/jre/lib/ext directory. This is where Java says to place those jar
files for java extensions (i.e. servlet.jar, junit.jar, mail.jar,
activation.jar, etc...). AND - javac and java always find them. Until
Tomcat 4.0.1 (which found them twice G).

Even Tomcat says to put stuff in JDK/jre/lib/ext - specifically this is
one of the two approved methods to get SSL (jsse) working. In my case,
I had to do this as the JSSE_HOME variable did not get picked up
properly. Using the jre worked perfectly.

So - how do most people compile servlets, etc if they do not put those
jar files in JDK/jre/lib/ext? I guess I could use classpath (i.e. in
the compile command line), but I'd really like to find a better
solution. Until TC 4.0.1's double load of servlet.jar, the
JDK/jre/lib/ext was essentially perfect.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations from all you Java / servlet
developers!

Cheers,

-Richard

Re: Assistance please - fixed W2k 4.0 vs 4.0.1 problem, created another!

2001-12-17 Thread Richard S. Huntrods

Greetings!

Well, I fixed the problem completely!

I checked the jar files I was using in JDK/jre/lib/ext against the ones
in Tomcat 4.0.1, and the file servlet.jar was larger and newer.
Although I'm using JDK 1.3 on my machine, servlet.jar (and a number of
other JAVAX jar files) come from the Sun site as add ins.

I tried replacing my older servlet.jar with the one in
TOMCAT/common/lib, and everything works, including (non-classpath)
compiles! This is not only great news, but solves all my Tomcat 4.0 /
4.0.1 problems!

So - I would say the key thing here with add on jar files is that
whatever you have in Tomcat library directories MUST BE IDENITCAL with
whatever you have in your JDK, especially the JDK/jre/lib/ext
directory. I have identical copies of mail.jar, activation.jar and
servlet.jar in both places, and *now that they are identical copies*,
Tomcat 4.0.1 works perfectly.

Cheers,

-Richard

this is due to the fact that the servlet 2.3 spec enforces the order of
