Re: how to unsubscribe - tried twice!

2003-06-10 Thread John Turner
I had major problems with this list and the Redhat users list when using my
company's Outlook and Exchange. I switched to Opera and most of those
problems went away. The rest went away when I unsubscribed my Exchange
InBox from the list, and subscribed another address on a more well-behaved
MTA.

If that fails have a look at the first header, in Outlook open the message,
then View/Options the ReturnPath will then show, which email address is
subscribed in a format similar to the above, it might be case sensitive.

I'm sorry, that was my typo. I did send it to the unsubscribe email address. I've sent
it three times now, over several days, and always had confirmation that I've been
unsubscribed. This is getting to be painful, since these messages are completely
clogging my inbox. Yes, I know that I can filter them using Outlook, but can't do so

Maybe the address you are sending from is not the one you subscribed with?

2003-06-09 Thread Keith Adams
I tried twice, with the subject line: [EMAIL PROTECTED], on Friday, and I'm still
receiving the emails. I even received a confirmation that I'd been unsubscribed. Has
anybody else experienced this?

More specifically:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subscribe me. ezmlm will send you a confirmation request, and once
you reply to it a message confirming that you are a subscriber.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] Here the default subscriber address (the
one you send from) is overridden by an argument to the -subscribe
command. To subscribe any address of type [EMAIL PROTECTED] just
replace the ``@'' in the address with ``='' and add it after a hyphen to
the command. In this case

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Of course, ezmlm
will ask [EMAIL PROTECTED] to confirm the request.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Unsubscribe me. ezmlm will send a confirmation request to your
address and remove the address once you reply.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You've guessed it already! To unsubscribe from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
just send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED], then reply
to the confirmation request. ezmlm will send you a message to let you
know that you are no longer a subscriber. ezmlm will also let you know
if the address was not in the subscriber list. If so, you are probably
subscribed under another address. *When this happens, construct an
unsubscribe request that contains your subscription address.*

*If you message contains a ``List-Unsubscribe:'' header, just click on
it if your mail reader supports it and send of that message. If you mail
reader doesn't support this, copy the entire address from after
``mailto:'' until just before ``>'', paste it into the ``To:'' field of
a new message and press ``SEND''. Reply to the confirmation request.*

Otherwise, you have to know your subscription address. To find it, look
at the very first header of any message from the list. This should
contain something like
[EMAIL PROTECTED] which tells you
that the message number is ``2345'' and the subscriber address is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Now you remember that you subscribed a address, and
construct the appropriate command address to remove that address from
the subscriber database:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (You can see
that this is a normal unsubscribe request, with a ``-'' followed by your
subscription address with the ``@'' replaced by a ``=''. If you like,
you can just use the address in the ``Return-Path'' header, and replace
the ``return-2345'' with ``unsubscribe''.) Replying to the confirmation
request will return the desired acknowledgement that the address has
been removed from the subscriber database.

You can also send -unsubscribe requests for each potential subscription
address and reply to the confirmation requests. The message sent by
ezmlm in response to you -unsubscribe confirmations will tell you if you
-unsubscribe attempt was successful.

With ezmlm-idx(*) you can also send mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED],
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and so on. For each
message, the address will receive a reply telling you whether or not the
address is subscribed or not. Construct a ``-unsubscribe'' message from
the one that gave you a positive reply and you're off the list!

If you for some reason are not successful with these attempts you can as
a last resort contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please describe
your problem and include a FORWARDED message from the list and a list of
the possible addresses you might be subscribed under. The list owner
will be able to help you get off the list, and can usually figure out
your subscription address from the information sent (see Helping users
to unsubscribe).

1. Set your mailer up so you can see all the headers of some message
   to the list.

2. Look for a header line that looks something like:

   [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The number will be different, but more importantly, the
"edmund_b_smith=yahoo.co.uk" part may be different as well. Note
   what it is.

3. Send a message to:

   [EMAIL PROTECTED]

with "edmund_b_smith=yahoo.co.uk" replaced by whatever you found in
step 2. I don't think it matters what's in the body (or the
subject) of the message, but perhaps it's best to leave it
   empty/blank.

Hi!

If you just clicked on the link at the bottom of the message, your browser
may have put the whole thing in your destination address, like this:

Just a thought..

The mail thingy had a go at me when an email from the list to my email
account bounced. It threatened to withdraw me from the list if further mails
bounced and a probe was unsuccessful. If you can re-configure your mail
server to reject TC emails or take your account off-line for a day or two
(!), then the mail thingy might just remove you. A bit drastic I know :)

It just a snippet from standard ezml mail which you (should) get
by sending a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In casse it does not work for you here the complete text:

Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list.

I'm working for my owner, who can be reached
at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is a generic help message. The message I received wasn't sent to
any of my command addresses.

--- Administrative commands for the tomcat-user list ---

I can handle administrative requests automatically. Please
do not send them to the list address! Instead, send
your message to the correct command address:

To subscribe to the list, send a message to:
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

To remove your address from the list, send a message to:
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Send mail to the following for info and FAQ for this list:
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Similar addresses exist for the digest list:
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

To get messages 123 through 145 (a maximum of 100 per request), mail:
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

To get an index with subject and author for messages 123-456 , mail:
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

They are always returned as sets of 100, max 2000 per request,
so you'll actually get 100-499.

To receive all messages with the same subject as message 12345,
send an empty message to:
   <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

The messages do not really need to be empty, but I will ignore
their content. Only the ADDRESS you send to is important.

You can start a subscription for an alternate address,
for example "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", just add a hyphen and your
address (with '=' instead of '@') after the command word:
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

To stop subscription for this address, mail:
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

In both cases, I'll send a confirmation message to that address. When
you receive it, simply reply to it to complete your subscription.

If despite following these instructions, you do not get the
desired results, please contact my owner at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Please be patient, my owner is a
lot slower than I am ;-)

I'm guessing the apache server isn't accepting your message beacause your
mail server is adding that InterScan_Disclaimer.txt attachment. Not sure
how you get around that.

AW: How to Unsubscribe?

2002-03-07 Thread Ralph Einfeldt

If despite following these instructions, you do not get the
desired results, please contact my owner at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Please be patient, my owner is a
lot slower than I am ;-)

nice try. considering how obvious that is, don't you think we would have
tried that ?

when you click the link, it emails you something that says 'click this link'
with a really long email. outlook express probably breaks this (though not
visibly), so the server doesn't recognize the recepient.

the human email contacts have not responded or unsubscribed any of us.
i have been trying for 4 weeks now.

How to Unsubscribe (was RE: Unsubscribe does not work)

2001-06-25 Thread Jann VanOver

This was originally posted by Thomas Vollmer -- thank you Thomas

it is a little tricky to unsubscribe from tomcat-user
when you have changed your e-mail address and need to
use this

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

to unsubscribe. Some mail clients like MS-Outlook have
trouble with the equal-sign "=" in the recipients address.
Here's the e-mail header you sent. If you look closely at
the "To:" line, you will see what has happened:

> To: 'tomcat-user-unsubscribe-lmayer=' <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Your e-mail client has split the recipients address at the "="
into the display name ("tomcat-user-unsubscribe-lmayer=") and
the e-mail address ("[EMAIL PROTECTED]").

Somehow you need to make sure that your e-mail client
really sends a message to

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

For MS-Outlook, the following has worked for me:
1. type the correct unsubscribe address into the "To:" field.
2. click outside of the "To:" field and watch Outlook "convert"
the address you typed into display name and e-mail address.
3. double click on the display name in the "To:" field, note
the wrong e-mail address in there and adjust the e-mail address
to the correct one.
4. done.

Just follow below...

Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list.

I'm working for my owner, who can be reached
at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Welcome to [EMAIL PROTECTED]!

Please save this message so that you know the address you are
subscribed under, in case you later want to unsubscribe or change your
subscription address.

--- Enclosed is a copy of the request I received.

HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE from tomcat-users

2001-04-05 Thread William Kaufman

Sorry to blast this to everyone, but, since a lot of people are trying to
unsubscribe from tomcat-users the wrong way, here's the right way, as taken
from the email you were sent when you subscribed:

> I can handle administrative requests automatically. Please

And you can look at the Return-Path: header to tell what address you
are subscribed from. For example, the Return-Path: for me for the
message I'm responding to is:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

And the address I'm subscribed from is [EMAIL PROTECTED] (so looks
like they change the "@" to an "=" in the address). It looks like the
number there (30023) might be some kind of message number for posts to
the lists, because it varies for each message I get from the list (and
it's consecutive for all the recent posts I'm going through now).

Once you know what address you are subscribed from, you can use that
to unsubscribe. I don't know the exact format for specifying that is.

Oh, here's something I pulled out of the intro message I got when I
subscribed to the list (it's a good idea to save such things):

You can start a subscription for an alternate address, for example
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]", just add a hyphen and your address (with '='
instead of '@') after the command word:
  <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

To stop subscription for this address, mail:
  <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

In both cases, I'll send a confirmation message to that
address. When you receive it, simply reply to it to complete your
  subscription.

If despite following these instructions, you do not get the desired
results, please contact my owner at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Please be patient, my owner is
  a lot slower than I am ;-)

So that shows how to unsubscribe for a specific address different than
the one you receive mail at.

Are you sending the unsubscribe email from the email account for which you
are subscribed? If you're reading/sending your mail from a central address
to which all your aliases (the one for this list, for example) are
forwarding, then the mail list won't recognize the unsubscribe because it
will be coming from a different address than the one subscribed with.
