Thanks!  That worked.   This is strange:

Class.forName(dbDriver).newInstance();

compiles fine, with my JSP and JavaBean classes, but I
have to use:

Class.forName(dbDriver);

in order for this Servlet to compile.

Leave out the .newInstance()..
E.g
