Performance Test

2002-11-05 Thread Ganesh
Hi All,

We are testing our software on jakarta-tomcat-4.1.10 under different environment
(Windows, Linux, Solaris). When we run the performance test (50 user login and do some
operation like send mail, read mail etc. and logoff), the JVM size is keep on
increasing and the response time is also very slow. Basically this problem will happen
in all platforms, but comparatively less in Linux. We have increased the JVM size, but
still the result is same. The same test is looking good in iPlanet Webserver. Please
let us know any parameter do we need to configure in Tomcat or if anyone has some
suggestion/comments etc will be really helpful.

Thanks

test-tomcat.xml

2001-04-05 Thread berman

I want to verify that my standaloneinstallation is working. (RedHat
7.0/tomcat 3.2.1)

When I use test-tomcat:

  bin/tomcat.sh ant -f conf/test-tomcat.xml client

I get 4 FAILs. Two are due to hardcoded machine name in
./Golden/movedwelcome.txt
and ./Golden/movedindex.txt.  Two seem to be due to use of ${host}
inside an
expect... attribute in test-tomcat.xml.

I assume these are not significant.

If I'm wrong about this, I'd greatly appreciate someone letting me know.

Thanks.

hello,

i developp in Visual age 4.0 and use a Tomcat test environnement 3.1. This
is very useful because all jsp are compiled in servlet which are genereted

i find a more recent Tomcat Test environnement for visual age or an other

DBCP test

2002-12-18 Thread Veniamin Fichin
Hello list!

Thanks to Robert Sowders, John and Craig, I've finally set DBCP up. For
those who still trying to do the same, here is my configuration. If
anybody have issues about it, please respond.

--= [ server.xml snippet ]=--

   type="javax.sql.DataSource"
   auth="Container"
   scope="Unshareable"
   description="Database resource for esljsp project" />

   dbusername

   password
   dbpasswd

   maxActive
   20
   java.lang.Integer

   validationQuery
   select count(MODULE_ID) from MODULE

   factory
   org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory

--= [ / server.xml snippet ]=--

This is not exactly what I want, because I wanted to use Oracle's DBCP
implementation instead of Jakarta's one. But I'll take more
investigation on it.

--= [ / web.xml snippet ]=--

Connection con=ds.getConnection();
//out.print(""+con);
Statement stmt=con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY,

ResultSet sections=stmt.executeQuery("select MODULE_ID, NAME,

out.print(""+sections.getString(2));
out.print(""+sections.getString(3));
out.print(""+sections.getString(4));
out.print(" ");
}
%>

--= [ index.jsp ] =--

Now I have a question. How do I make sure that connections are really
taken from pool, and not maden each time I ask for a new one? I'm sure
there is some simple technique to check it, but I don't know where to
look in...

The question is: what is the way to check if DBCP is really used, and I

RE: Performance Test

2002-11-06 Thread David Tildesley
4.1.12 appears to be the stable version that most people are using.
Can you provide some metrics from your performance test (e.g. average
requests/sec, time to first byte, time to last byte). For the linux, what is
the hardware spec? What JDK version? using SSL? What is the CPU utilisation?
Can you do the same test on the example servlets that come with Tomcat and
get similar results?

Subject: Performance Test

Hi All,

We are testing our software on jakarta-tomcat-4.1.10 under different
environment (Windows, Linux, Solaris). When we run the performance test (50
user login and do some operation like send mail, read mail etc. and logoff),
the JVM size is keep on increasing and the response time is also very slow.
Basically this problem will happen in all platforms, but comparatively less
in Linux. We have increased the JVM size, but still the result is same. The
same test is looking good in iPlanet Webserver. Please let us know any
parameter do we need to configure in Tomcat or if anyone has some
suggestion/comments etc will be really helpful.

Thanks

Nagaraja

First of all,
what does "spare-treads" mean?
Secondly,
there are 2 very important parameters that should be configurated: delay and
threads - and 1 important concept: each new group will begin after the prior
one ends. So, you should have enough CPU and memory to allow multithreads.
Finally, if you are testing a web page, this kind of tool (in general)
doesnt simulate the real overhead.

So, spare-threads seems to be waiting listenners, doesnt it? Its always very
very important that you have an ideia about the amount of users which are
using your application at the same time... Thats the reason for using
threads. Some questions: does your app use SGBD? SGBD has threads
configuration too and needs disk space. Anyway, it seems that TomCat isnt
strong enough for this kind of test or else your hardware/S.O. isnt good
enough. If you are using NT/2000, try to tune it.
I hope it helps!

Spare-threads are idle threads. We want a few idle
threads to quickly answer incoming requests. We don't
want too many idle threads, or else we can negatively
impact performance. So, we can represent the config
below with this pseudo-code in an attempt to make it
more clear:

// Max spare threads
while ( IDLE_THREADS > 20 ) {
server.killThread();
}

// Min spare threads
while ( IDLE_THREADS < 5 && THREAD_COUNT <= 200 ){
server.spawnThread();
}
