Startup Errors & Apache crash

2003-05-31 Thread Allen Williams
Here I am again:

Apache 2, Tomcat 4, WinNT

Upon startup, I get a dialog box saying "Apache.exe- Application Error: The
instruction at 0x1 referenced memory at 0x00...01. The memory could not
be read...blah, blah blah".

I get this several times (multiple threads?).

In the error log I have the following:

...

[Fri May 30 19:20:02 2003] [notice] workerEnv.init() ok
E:/ApacheGroup/Apache2/conf/workers2.properties
[Fri May 30 19:20:02 2003] [error] mod_jk child init 1 0

(Notice *two* errors here)
[Fri May 30 19:20:27 2003] [notice] workerEnv.init() ok

[Fri May 30 19:20:27 2003] [error] mod_jk child init 1 0

[Fri May 30 19:20:27 2003] [notice] Child 753: Acquired the start mutex.

[Fri May 30 19:20:30 2003] [notice] Child 747: Acquired the start mutex.

And so on, with the "error state" (whatever that is) incrementing.

Any help or insight?

TIA,
Allen

Tomcat 5.0.24 startup errors

2004-05-25 Thread Carl Olivier
Greetings.

I recently upgraded to TC 5.0.24 on Windows XP Pro, using the packaged
tomcat5.exe and service.bat to install the TC service.

On startup I am noticing the following errors in the logs (note that
everything does still seem to work fine though):

I checked and the class being referenced in the error above is definitely in

Any ideas?

I experienced this problem on FreeBSD.. i cant remember what the fix was
"exactly" but i can tell you to work around it you will have to make a
change in your httpd.conf. I found my fix by pasteing the error into
Google..

good luck

Hmmm starting to get beyond my realm of expertise... Stab in the dark... You
haven't got Tomcat already running do you? It shouldn't be...

Also try upping all your debug levels in workers2.properties to 10 and see if
any better errors get spat out.

Re: Startup Errors & Apache crash

2003-05-31 Thread Jason Bainbridge
Okay last try before hitting the hay...

Have you got the following line in your jk2.properties as well?

shm.file=g:/ApacheGroup/Apache2/logs/jk2.shm

Maybe try using my config files and just changing the paths. :)

Also have a look to see if it gets as far as generating any Tomcat logs, it
could be something silly like a port conflict. I'm assuming Apache still
ins't starting at all? Otherwise I'd let it start for about 2 minutes and
then try to access http://localhost/examples/

Good luck!

J.

RE: Startup Errors & Apache crash

2003-05-31 Thread Allen Williams
Yeah, Apache is starting, and generating the error.log (which is where I'm
getting the messages itemized below). But, I then get a memrory access
exception from WinNT. Where are your config files? At this point, I'll try
anything!

I'm also getting this right after the first error (Note that this is where
the child process exits):

[Fri May 30 20:49:07 2003] [error] mod_jk child init 1 0
[Fri May 30 20:49:07 2003] [notice] Child 538: Acquired the start mutex.
[Fri May 30 20:49:07 2003] [notice] Child 538: Starting 250 worker threads.
[Fri May 30 20:50:00 2003] [notice] Parent: child process exited with status
3221225477 -- Restarting.
[Fri May 30 20:50:00 2003] [notice] Parent: Created child process 736
[Fri May 30 20:50:00 2003] [notice] Child 736: Child process is running

It is right after the "Starting 250 worker threads" message that the WinNT
dialogue pops up.

TIA,

RE: Startup Errors & Apache crash

2003-05-31 Thread Allen Williams
I have downloaded the jk2 source, and have looked for the following errors.

[Fri May 30 21:47:26 2003] [error] mod_jk child init 1 0
[Fri May 30 21:47:26 2003] [notice] Child 729: Acquired the start mutex.
[Fri May 30 21:47:26 2003] [notice] Child 729: Starting 25 worker threads.
[Fri May 30 21:47:40 2003] [notice] Parent: child process exited with status
3221225477 -- Restarting.

The first one I can find, and appears to be innocuous. I cannot find the
other two, and so am assuming they must come from Apache.

Are there any developers monitoring this board that might be able to help
here? Where would jk2 be exiting from? I know there must be simple
configuration problem here.

TIA,

Hi,
You did a clean install to a new directory, right? There's no chance of
an old configuration file (e.g. server.xml) sneaking into your new
installation from the older one?

Hi Yoav.

Clean install yes - into a new directory yes. My server XML is a "custom"
VERy minimal one - looks as follows:

server.xml

END server.xml

Hi,
Add to your server.xml the MBean declaration from the default one that
ships with tomcat (they're right near the top of the file, under Server
and above Service), restart tomcat, and let us know what happens.

Ok, added them, same errors in the logs.

apache startup errors with tomcat workers

2001-04-23 Thread Farrell, Sarah

Hi all,

I finally got my mod_jk.so compiled. on to the next glitch.

I'm running Linux, jakarta-tomcat-3.2.1, and apache_1.3.19, with
j2sdk-1_3_0_02.

I have configured /usr/local/tomcat/conf/workers.properties file to work
with Linux, and set my tomcat home and my java home. as well as the
following:

# Defining a worker named ajp13 and of type ajp13
worker.ajp13.port=8009
worker.ajp13.host=localhost
worker.ajp13.type=ajp13
worker.ajp13.lbfactor=1
#worker.ajp13.cachesize

I have configured tomcat's server.xml with:

I've started Tomcat running.
Then I start Apache and I see the following error in the error log:

[Mon Apr 23 17:36:33 2001] [emerg] (2)No such file or directory: Error while
opening the workers

Does anyone see the problem?

Thank you for any help you can send my way.

Hi,

You forget JkMount.

JkMount /* .jsp ajp13
JkMount /servet/* ajp13

Ajp13 is also used in SSL.Why don't you refer to mod_ssl site?
You will find clue there.

Re: apache startup errors with tomcat workers

2001-04-23 Thread Joel Parramore

Sarah:

Do Apache and Tomcat work separately (i.e, once compiled and configured, do
Apache and Tomcat serve requests properly when accessed separately?)

If they do, then look at the tomcat-apache.conf (or mod_jk.conf-auto file
again and check the settings in it again as suggested by

http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat/src/doc/mod_jk-howto.html

(Apologies if that seems obvious --- I don't know what else you may have
already tried so I'm just covering as wide a swath as I can.)

The only other thing I see right now in your configuration is that it
appears that you're running Apache on port 8080. If that's the case, bear
in mind that Tomcat's default port is 8080, so you'll have a conflict there
when starting one when the other is running.

Regards,
Joel Parramore

Error handling in ServletContextListener/investigating tomcat startup errors

2002-10-20 Thread garrett smith
Hey,

If I have problems in an implementation of ServletContextListener, TC refuses
to give me a reason. How can I log the error message? To generate an error, I
divided by zero. A more likely (and less avoidable) exception is
NamingException (what I expect).

[code]
public void contextInitialized(ServletContextEvent event) {

try{
Database.init();
Mailer.init();
int i = 0;
int j = 1/i;
}
catch (Exception ne){

// doesn't do anything.
System.err.println(ne.fillInStackTrace());
//ne.printStackTrace();
}
}
[/code]

Here's the log file:

2002-10-20 03:25:07 [org.apache.catalina.connector.warp.WarpConnector] Error
accepting requests
java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort
at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketAccept(Native Method)
at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.accept(PlainSocketImpl.java:421)
at java.net.ServerSocket.implAccept(ServerSocket.java:243)
at java.net.ServerSocket.accept(ServerSocket.java:222)
at
org.apache.catalina.connector.warp.WarpConnector.run(WarpConnector.java:590)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:496)

In general, it is annoying when TC refuses to start. I'd like to have some sort
of meaningful message as to why.

How can I get a meaningful exception/error msg?

RE: Can't find TomcatStarter & Startup Errors & Apache crash

2003-06-01 Thread Allen Williams
Pascal,

Thanks for the suggestions. Based on what you and a few others told me,
I've moved past that point and now am getting errors in the new thread I
started called

RE: Startup Errors & Apache crash.

Basically, everything looks like it started OK, then it references memory
location 0x01 (WinNT), then the child thread exits and Apache keeps trying
to restart it.

So far, I can't find anyone who has any insight or has seen this before,
hence my attempt to try to go through the source code.

Thanks for your help,

Allen

Hmm... did you compile mod_jk2 from source ? I read some of the
documentation concerning JNI channels, and the only platform it seems to
work on is Windows. I'm not much of a Windows expert, so I can't really
help you there. But from the available stuff on Windows + mod_jk2, it
seemed to be pretty straightforward, so I might want to look at
re-compiling from source or using the binary (if it is available), or
"down-grading " to the last version that worked. Not a very attractive
set of options, I know.

RE: Can't find TomcatStarter & Startup Errors & Apache crash

2003-06-01 Thread Allen Williams
I haven't tried recompiling from source. I am hoping I won't have to go
that far!

As for dropping back to an earlier version, another interesting problem is
that when I drop back to an earlier version, Apache tells me it can't find
the file. For example, if I have in my modules directory the following
three files:

mod_jk2-2.0.43.dll
mod_jk2-1.3.27.dll
mod_jk2.dll

In my LoadModule statement in httpd.conf, I reference the mod_jk2.dll file.
If I copy mod_jk2-2.0.43.dll into mod_jk2.dll, everything starts OK, up
until I have the problem described below. If I copy mod_jk2-1.3.27.dll into
mod_jk2.dll, Apache gives me a "file not found" error and doesn't start at
all. I'm assuming the "file not found" error is erroneous, and the dll is
corrupted, so the OS can't load it. I haven't followed up on this because,
of course, I want to use the latest stable version, but I'm having "child
exit" problem.

At this point, it does not look like compiling from source is a trivial
option. I really don't know the development paths and structures and file
organization (although I'd like to learn because I'd like to contribute, and
also because I could then solve my immediate problem *very* expeditiously),
and, from what I downloaded, the .dsp file (the Windows project file) can't
be read by the IDE.

At this point, I'm in sequestered meditation, prayerfully contemplating the
possibility someone has seen this before, or that a developer will see what
I've got here and respond :-) Otherwise I may drop all the way back to
mod_jk. I've heard NOT to use warp, but haven't tried it.

TIA,

I hear you, Allen ! I am trying not to do that for my Linux installation
as well. It tends to increase the number of questions and the risk of
breaking something. Which is why I always try the rpm or binaries
approach first, and try to stick with it come hell or high water.

mod_jk2-2.0.43.dll
mod_jk2-1.3.27.dll
mod_jk2.dll

mod_jk2 can run on both Apache 1.3.x as well as Apache 2.x. The second
DLL file, mod_jk2-1.3.27.dll seems to be made for Apache 1.3.27. I
wouldn't expect it to work for Apache 2. Having said that, I was
wondering if there were multiple versions of mod_jk2 for Windows, like
there is for Linux (v 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 for example).

At this point, it does not look like compiling from source is a trivial
option. I really don't know the development paths and structures and file
organization (although I'd like to learn because I'd like to contribute, and
also because I could then solve my immediate problem *very* expeditiously),
I've heard that trying to compile using Visual C++ can be an ordeal in
itself. I'd have tried to help you, except I have a deep aversion to
everything Microsoft (and Oracle) because of some things that happened
to me in the past.

At this point, I'm in sequestered meditation, prayerfully contemplating the
possibility someone has seen this before, or that a developer will see what
I've got here and respond :-) Otherwise I may drop all the way back to

Well, no point dropping back to warp because that module will no longer
be developed further, or so I hear. If you have the luxury of time, I
would say meditating on it is good. It should not be long before they
churn out another binary, I should think, because of certain problems
with SSL connections that were solved only in the latest CVS version of
mod_jk2.
