I have been listening for a few days now. They have never had a readable signal 
until last night. For about 2 hours they were S7-S9 and hearing very well. 
Actually much better than the east coast stations that were calling. Spot light 
to my location? I dont think so because of the long opening.


I would like to commend the 160 meter operator who was excellent. He seemed to 
have a great sense of just how well the station that he came back to could copy 
him. In one case he came back to an east coast station about six times. During 
one transmission he gave the stations call at least 10 times. Great devotion to 
get him in the log.


Great job by the A35T team.

Same thing happened to me with the T88 a few years back. 

Sat in front of the radio for hours for seven days listening to nothing but 
static. On the very last day for less than a minute, they came out of the noise 
and I made the contact.

 It was one of the most exciting things in ham radio!

They have an amazing signal tonight at 0923 here in Arizona.  They have 
been solid for at least an hour, so no spotlights or sunrise 
enhancements this time.  Sunrise is in several hours from now.

I was fortunate to work them this AM on 160 M.  However, the problem was 
hearing their signal.  It was weak, as it was the previous morning when I 
listened only to a few dits.  IMHO their signal is at least 20 DB below 
where it should be when compared with other South Pacific DXped Top Band 
signals.


As said, their signal was weak while sporadically getting answers from both 
NA and JA.  I waited for a signal peak where I was sure I could hear the 
reply.  I got a come back with a single call to them.


I also worked them on 80 M this AM, with 100 Watts.  Lots of callers.

They QRTed on 40 M right at the time I was making the all important 160 M 
contact.  Otherwise I might have made the trifecta in a short period of 
time.  I only have a single 160 M vertical (full WL on 40 M) for use on 40 M 
but the K3 tuner tunes it very well.  Will see if they are on 40 in the 
manana.

Here is the Wisconsin RX Report.

For RX, I have a YCCC array, RBOG, and two amplified phased loops
spaced 135 feet into a DCC-1 box ( along with the TX vertical ).

Yesterday, 2/23, I woke up with a sinus headache at 3:30 AM Central
time.

Listened alternately on 80m and 160m for A35T until well after
sunrise - not even a hint of a signal.

Today, 2/24, I woke up again at 3:30 AM Central time, ( no headache
).

Listened alternately on 80m and 160m for A35T until well after
sunrise - not even a hint of a signal.

Both times I could hear many west coast stations calling A35T.

Oh well, I'll keep trying.

Very weak this AM 1300-1345z, in New Mexico.  Barely out of noise,with
QSB. Many CQs with nobody replying. Usually have a pipeline into
Pacific. 80m was bad, too.

The ops have made a valiant effort since they were able to install the low band 
antennas.The prop has not cooperated. 
On 80M here in WV they have not been strong.  I had to work them twice on 80  
because the first Q, made during the ARRL DX test, was NIL. 
 
On Topband, extensive listening only produced copy right on my sunrise on 23 
Feb.   The opening was fleeting. likely lasting only a couple of minutes, and 
the signal peaked barely out of the noise.   I heard them calling NO3M several 
times during the initial part of the opening.  I tried a quick call after that 
Q was completed.  They answered someone and gave a report, but I could not tell 
who they answered. The opening was already on the downhill slide.  I listened, 
hoping they would repeat the callsign/report.  No one else was answering them 
on the QSX frequency.  In the noise, I heard my callsign one time and a report. 
 I heard them confirm, and then the prop was gone.  This is about as lucky of a 
Q as I can recall on Topband.  They were logged dead on my SR, 1207 UTC. 
 
It turns out they miscopied the last letter of my call as N rather than R, but 
Tim M0URX corrected the busted call, and the Q is confirmed on LoTW.  Many 
thanks to Tim M0URX for the excellent service/ support he gives to the DX 
chasing world.
 
I was receiving A35T on my transmit inverted L, which is situated on the west 
side of my hilltop.  During these sunrise openings to the Pacific, the TX 
antenna, with the front end of the FT5K set on IPO2,  usually outperforms my 
receive antennas, which are not optimally deployed due to terrain issues.  
 
Sometimes even a blind squirrel gets the nut :-) 
 
Thanks to the op at A35T for pulling me out, and sticking with it on Topband.

here and I occasionally heard them on 160, but
never well enough to call.  I did manage to work
them on 80 meters 1/2 hour after sunrise.  They
were a few dB out of the noise on QSB peaks.
Just enough to make a QSO.  Nothing to spare.
This wasn't a good sign.  Generally, 80 needs
to be be solid before 160 is usable.
I heard VY2ZM work them night before last.
VY2ZM's signal was huge, and not a whisper
from A35T.  I don't understand what is going
on here.  A pacific island should be a chip
shot from the left coast.

After looking for them at sunrise for the past 2 days and hearing 
nothing I decided to try earlier, so I got up at 0900Z and listened for 
2 hours.  Saw no spots for A35T on 160 and heard nothing.  Saw no spots 
on 80 and heard nothing.  Saw a spot on 40 and decided to see what he 
sounded like there.  He as calling CQ UP but had the rig on simplex.  He 
was sprinkling CQs from 7025 to 7030.  I listened to a few people 
calling and then would hear ? on their freq, no response, then A35T 
would call CQ on their freq.  Next CQ would be on a different freq.


Right after he went QRT on 40 I saw a spot for them on 1824 kHz from a 
JA.  I was really expecting them to be on 1821.5.  I was hoping it 
wasn't the guy from 40, but it didn't matter.  I never heard a peep, 
same as the previous last two nights.  I only need Tonga on 160 and this 
one is looking slim.

I couldn't hear a peep yesterday from about 1015Z and today from about 
1045Z until our sunrise at 1140Z.
I did hear VY2ZM and K8PO and another K1 in MA work them yesterday. 
Today, not one call to them.

Past two mornings I could only copy A35T right at my SR for just a few
brief moments, but not strong enough to call.

This morning while everyone was lsning they kept moving their TX freq
around (or at least reported that way by JAs who could copy) at 22.5, then
23.5 then up to 25.5 and then back to 22.5 that made it difficult to keep
up with and lsn for a very weak signal to peak out of the noise. Not sure
why all the moving around but assume there was a good reason on their end
even though it was a struggle here.

need them on 80M.
