Operating as W1AW/9 I worked them at 0135Z Saturday night on 80M. They had a pretty good signal. They were operating high in the band, 3555. Re: Topband: TO7CC
Being on the left coast obviously has its disadvantages...except when you want to work into SE Asia.then you can smile when we on the right coast get up in the early morning hours to have maybe a 5 minute opening to HS0ZKX or DU7ET. Fortunately for us over here, those two dudes understand the gray line and make the most of it! Norbert, DJ7JC and Gilles, F6IRA have both been operating TO7CC on the low bands and I believe that both understand gray line propagation. However, this expedition is coming to an end very soon. They will QRT on Sunday. By their web site time clock, they have a little over one day to go. I'll get one more try, possibly two, on 160 when hopefully the propagation will be OK and the snow noise will have dropped to a reasonable level Good luck to all of us who need them on top band! 73, Ken - K4XL On Fri, Feb 14, 2014 at 3:39 PM, wrote: > Jim, > > Your points about understanding grey line propagation is right. Jim, Your points about understanding grey line propagation is right. I know that they have been on almost everyday working just that. If you have a great circle map located on your QTH you will see a very great difference in paths between FT5ZM and TO7CC. FT5ZM was almost a East West path and TO7CC is North South Path right through the intensity of the auroral oval a much more difficult path by far. So I don't think I can expect to hear TO7CC as easily as I did FT5ZM. Re: Topband: TO7CC
Heard bits and dits on 160 last night my sunset gray line, but noise from snow was too great for solid copy. Worked them at 0100 on 80 on Wednesday. Not strong, but workable. They have said that they will operate through their night if there is an opening on 80 and/or 160. 73, Ken - K4XL On Fri, Feb 14, 2014 at 12:30 PM, Merv Schweigert wrote: > They have been on 160/80 almost every day, so far I have not heard > a peep on 160, seems they are on for their sunset and then move > to 80.
