Re: [topbraid-users] Topbraid free for Mac broken download: (tbcfree-4.6.3v20150326-1917-macosx.cocoa.x86_64.tar.gz)

2015-06-02 Thread Mark Graham
Hi Jerven,

Thanks for the update and work-around information. Glad this is
working for you now. And at times some versions of Mac will prompt for
trust verification of new software. TQ will look into this for future
releases.

Thanks,
Mark

 fine in both cases.

Perhaps try another browser (or disable download helper plugins) and see
if that somehow caused a problem with your specific download or unarchive

2015-06-02 Thread Jerven Bolleman
Hi Mark,

I now downloaded the application with Firefox.

I have the following file
tbcfree-4.6.3v20150326-1917-macosx.cocoa.x86_64.tar.gz

mkdir tbcfree
mv tbcfree-4.6.3v20150326-1917-macosx.cocoa.x86_64.tar.gz tbcfree
cd tbcfree
tar xzvf tbcfree-4.6.3v20150326-1917-macosx.cocoa.x86_64.tar.gz
./TopBraid\ Composer

Ok starts up workspace selected
Close topbraid composer

Started finder navigated to tbcfree directory created earlier
Double click on Topbraid Composer app.
Get earlier shown error message.

Work around is actually to go into Mac OS X preferences and change installation
allowed from anywhere
Not just Mac OS X and identified developers

Looking at https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202491 it looks like your
build/codesign procedure has an error.

Jerven

[topbraid-users] Re: SPARQL Web Pages without Topbraid Live

2015-06-02 Thread Jack Hodges
The sad reality is that semantic web services are becoming popular, and the
world sees all web servers (do the names Apache and Tomcat ring a bell?) as
free. I think that the best way to sell a product like TBL is to provide a
free version that has a published limit on the number of triples it can
handle. That allows the growing number of researchers trying to prove that
semantic technologies can help solve real problems make their case. This
can only lead to more sales. I fear that the current approach will lead
business away from TQ, which cannot be the desired result.

[topbraid-users] Why is startup/load screen always in back of other windows?

2015-06-02 Thread Jack Hodges
I would like to suggest a small feature enhancement. For years I have been
plagued by having the TBC startup screen pushed in back of other open
applications. As a result, when TBC asks for which workspace I want to
launch I often don't know it is waiting for an action on my part. Because
the launch process can be time consuming I would prefer to know if TBC is
waiting for me (like in your face). I am sure that someone else must have
complained in the other direction (to get rid of the launch window or put
it in back), but since it is antithetical to the way most applications work
I am hoping that TQ will see a way forward. Maybe put a 'hide' button, or
'run in the background' button on the dialog for those who don't want any
notification until the GUI completes its launch sequence...

2015-06-02 Thread Mark Graham
Hi Jerven,

Lets look at these options to test:

 - open the downloaded file with a different (third party) unzip utility
application.

- also try to open the TBC application (even though chrome says it is
damaged - as it may not actually be damaged).

It looks like this is occuring with your unzip utility. Can you test a
different utility

Thanks,
Mark

Hello Jerven,

I just tried the download again and can start TBC FE under Yosemite 10.10.3 so
the files in the gz file do work for some of us on a Mac. I tried Chrome and it
works too.

If you are still having problems, the dev team will need more technical detail
about your environment. I’m not part of the dev team, so will bow out of this
thread.

Re: [topbraid-users] Topbraid free for Mac broken download: (tbcfree-4.6.3v20150326-1917-macosx.cocoa.x86_64.tar.gz)

2015-06-02 Thread Jerven Bolleman
Please read my e-mail carefully.

The downloaded tar.gz file is correct. It is decompresible and matches both
formats.
The decompressed contents are at issue.
I can start the application on the CLI.
Every use from the Dock or Finder gives the error message I attached earlier.

i.e. the issue is more insidious then a simple corrupt download.

Regards,
Jerven

Chances are the downloads are incomplete. The user should check the size and
checksum.

Yes, trying a different browser often works.

Re: [topbraid-users] Topbraid free for Mac broken download: (tbcfree-4.6.3v20150326-1917-macosx.cocoa.x86_64.tar.gz)

2015-06-02 Thread David Price
After seeing this email, I just downloaded

tbcfree-4.6.3v20150326-1917-macosx.cocoa.x86_64.tar.gz

and it unarchived just fine for me on two different Macs (I used Firefox
Yosemite on one, and Safari Lion on the other). Interestingly, Firefox resulted
in a tar.gz file and Safari in a tar file, but they unarchived fine in both
cases.

Perhaps try another browser (or disable download helper plugins) and see if
that somehow caused a problem with your specific download or unarchive software?

Cheers,
David

Hi Holger, All,

The application inside the tar.gz seems to be broken.
I attached the screenshot of the error message.
This is on Mac OS X yosemite.

I downloaded it 3 times, gz/tar file is fine but the contents are not.

Regards,
Jerven

Hey Holger,

thanks! Now it works. I'm still struggling to understand the problem you
are explaining, but however, I need to have a closer look on that.

Thanks again.
