Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch in bridge mode for use with a Controller and no access point ?

2010-06-15 Thread magnum77

Thanks a lot for the hints, after a hard working week end I did the job.

Conditions are static ip for touch, controller, squeezebox server, ...
and encrytion WPA-NONE for the ad-hoc mode. So the controller can only
be used when the touch is running.
I adopted the interfaces and wpa_supplicant.conf on controller and
touch and added some things to the rcS.local on the touch for routes
and arp-proxy (helpful were parts of a touch script named bridge in
init.d).
I can post more details if somebody is interested in doing similar
things.
By the way, are the mentioned files kept by upgrading to newer
firmware?

[SlimDevices: Touch] Memory Usage

2010-06-15 Thread Ferdie

Hi all!

After downloading the latest software I noticed that the Memory Usage
was at 70% just with the HDD hooked on the USB(Not playing)...is that
normal? Is there anyway to see if there is something working in the
background? The software seems slower when using the HDD. Songs seem to
take longer to play.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I try correct volume leveling (but It was just a rapid test not a
full and perfect ABX). It's not the place to debate (a classic debate)
about ABX test. I'm not an idiotphile buyer too. There's for me, my

don't know if dac magic+SB Touch give better result.

Perhaps, I diy an audio PSU for SqueezeBox in very near future.

for the Duet as well. Or did you mean that Android/iPhone was an
advantage for _any_ SB compared to a CDP?
I don't say that, I think that globally, I Touch is a little higher
priced (in France 50€ difference) there's a lot of little improvements
: better cpu, embedded server, better dac, touch screen etc. And if you
want a remote you can buy a duet remote but also use an Iphone or
Android phone.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Windows Media Player song rating visible in Touch

2010-06-15 Thread Sai

I have spent some time assigning stars rating (1-5) to my songs under
WMP 11. Now, when listetning from a PC I find it very useful when I see
my song rating in the WMP playlist view.
As far as I know Windows Media Player allow you to store a song's
rating internally inside an mp3 metadata.

Is there any chance that this kind of information would be read and
shown by Touch in the now playing view? Maybe some kind of a an
applet could enable this feature?

To confirm the remote is dead, point it towards a digital cammera while

as white on the cameras screen or in a photo.

Other than that, yeah, contact Logitech directly. Remember this is a

[SlimDevices: Touch] Server control: composer as artist

2010-06-15 Thread Teus de Jong

Is it possible to let tiny sbs treat the composer as artist? As a
classical music lover, I have build a library with a tagging system
over the last years that depends heavy on this feature. Have I
overlooked this option or is it just not implemented? If so, could it
be 'put on' by changing a configuration file via ssh?

Hi There,
I just remarked, that the amount of memory can vary tremenously. Nr. of

In my case I have merely around 2000 songs (on SBS) and memory usage is
still on 50%.

You can connect to it using the CLI on port 9090 (telnet touch 9090).
Then send a pref conductorInArtist 1. This should do what you want. You
can verify the pref value using pref conductorInArtist ?.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Server control: composer as artist

2010-06-15 Thread rotho

Yes, by editing via ssh the following file on the Touch :

/etc/squeezecenter/prefs/server.prefs

you have access to far more user preferences than what the Touch UI
(with Tiny SC) gives you.

In your case, you have to change the following line:
composerInArtists: 0
into :
composerInArtists: 1

You can also change the conductorInArtists and bandInArtists
parameters.

However, after having done these changes, I noticed that there was a
bug in the navigation by artist, when the artist is a Composer : you
can't access directly to the tracks of an album this way; you have to
go into the contextual menu ('+') and choose Play.

See the following thread for more details :

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Which tags?

2010-06-15 Thread rotho

On the Touch, go to :
Settings - Advanced - Remote Login - Enable SSH

Note the address (for example 192.168...) and password (by default
1234) given by the Touch.

If you have a Mac, open a Terminal window and type the following
command :
ssh -l root the_address_given_by_the_touch
Then you will be prompted for the password.
And now you have remote access to the Touch.

On a PC, I don't know how to do it (I've read that you can use a
program called putty...).

Anyway, on the Mac, here is what I do next :
cd /etc/squeezecenter/prefs/

The I use the vi program to edit the server.prefs file :
vi server.prefs

You then have to locate the composerInArtists line and, in your case,
replace the 1 by a 0 and save your modification.

On the Touch you will have to wipe out your old database scan and do a
full rescan of your music files, so that the composers are no more
listed in the Artist menu.

What I don't understand is why you have this User Preference with a
value different from the default value...

2010-06-15 Thread Teus de Jong

Thanks Michael, set and done via ssh.

Any idea when the navigate bug will be fixed? As you said, at the
moment you have to choose the context menu at the album level and
choose play, but that will play the whole album, starting at track 1.
So you have to go into the playlist and choose the track where you want
to start. (I've got several 'Albums' like 'Mahler: Symphonies (Haitink)'
-- all symphonies form one album.)

Hello and Welcome to the Forum. The TOUCH will not do any transcoding
when running in TinySC Mode. IIRC, I did play some 24/96 FLAC files. I
think the issue is what compression value one ripped with. Mine were
all done at -5. -8 takes way to much processing power for TinySC.

Like I said its been awhile, so I hope I am remembering correctly.
