Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 7.6 testing - Native WMA Pro and Lossless
I downloaded and installed Version: 7.6.0 - r31169 on my computer, and then updated my touches from there. The touch that is running it's own server and accessing the wma lossless files from the WD USB hard drive hooked directly to that touch seems to operate just fine...artwork shows on the touch display. I wanted to try some more out of the ordinary wma lossless files and found that the DTS encoded ones I have play the center channel and surround channels but not the left and right mains. My preamp is showing that 5.1 sound is being received from the digital input hooked to the touch, but no sound from the left and right mains. That same wma lossless DTS encoded file plays fine when playing from the sbs on my computer through the touch, but not when using the server in the touch and the USB source. That could be a horsepower issue...the server in the touch doesn't have the power of the one running on my computer. Regular 44 khz two channel ripped CD's play fine on the touch server though, in wma lossless. One issue. The artwork does not appear on the touch display or on the Duet controller when using the sbs running on my computer. -- strindl strindl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39162 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80482 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 7.6 testing - Native WMA Pro and Lossless
Ok..now I understand what the purpose of this update is. I wasn't aware until tonight that I was not able to use my WMA lossless files when running the touch from it's internal server with a USB device source. It doesn't recognize the wma lossless files without the SBS software running on my computer to act as a go between. I'll give this another shot and see what happens. -- strindl strindl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39162 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80482 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Thanks for the input guys. I have a pair of 30 foot ICs made from Mogami quad microphone cable. You need tools, but I can't imagine a system not supplying them as mandatory these days... ext3 isn't all that new. (ie, there is a special version of fsck for ext3 (called, appropriately enough, fsck.ext3 -- this is part of the debian e2fsprogs these days, so should be included already .. an option in mke2fs sets the journal on, so unless you have an ancient mke2fs, it should be ready to go...) ext3 will save you if your computer crashes or dies. You can be assured that inconsistent state (saved inode but not data, etc) is recoverable... It still won't save you when the power to the drive cuts when you're in the middle of the write. The drive will start spinning down, the heads will not be writing or may be writing garbage as the drive electronics lose power, etc. No amount of software will save you from that unless you have prior notice that the power is about to go out and to stop issuing commands to the drive other than 'spin down'. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80447 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] operating question about power-off
Actually the reason why I first chose ext2 was because I thought it would reduce read/write (so for USB FLASH drives it would have been a better choice to reduce the wear) - but I had not thought about the advantage of journalling for protecting the file system. I must admit I dont really know how ext3 works -- Is the whole journalling and restoring is automatic or if you need tools to restore? ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] automatic brightness not working when light is completely off
I recently moved my touch to my bedroom, and noticed an odd behavior. The automatic brightness control stops working when the light is completely off in the room. Instead of staying at a very low level, the display jumps back to 50% (approximate guess) for no apparent reason. I set the "minimum brightness" to 0%, since I want it to be as dim as possible. When there's very little light in the room (ie, just one bedside lamp), it actually works pretty well. But when the light is completely off, I can see it actually getting brighter gradually. If I put my hands over it (have to try it a few times since I don't know where the sensor is), it will get darker. but as soon as I remove my hand, it will gradually go back up. So I end up put a cloth over it. With the cloth over it, it actually goes down to the lowest level and stays there.. It's not obvious to me what the bug is. Is it receiving part of its own reflection at night? Even if it does, it doesn't explain the behavior. Did Logitech engineer test this in a completely dark room? ;) -- wildgoose wildgoose's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23501 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80964 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

One should only use ext2 anymore where journaling is not needed such as the boot partition of a nix system. Reason why you do not want to use ext3 in the boot partition is simply because you have very little risk in corruption since you will not mount this partition after boot and the journaling just adds extra overhead. -- m1abrams m1abrams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=850 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80447 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I doubt very much that you would drop any power on a 20' run, assuming it is decent cable, and not bell wire, although I have a friend who will not use anything else on his speakers, and he apparently suffers no problems with that kind of cable run. -- craig strong craig strong's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80799 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SBS stops from time to time
I did some cleaning to my music library, I found some crap like .cue files, some bmp images that weight 10 MB each which were embedde to mp3 files and stuff like that. I know that maybe is a supeficial cleaning but again I did wipe and rescan and it crashed at 99% with just 1 second left to complete, that means there are problems yet? Is there a way to see what files are corrupted? because I checked log messages and I don't see any "error scan" or something like this. I can't checked my 7.000 folders (yeah, I was very wrong about my 3.000, I wish they were...)
