Actually the reason why I first chose ext2 was because I thought it would reduce read/write (so for USB FLASH drives it would have been a better choice to reduce the wear) - but I had not thought about the advantage of journalling for protecting the file system. I must admit I dont really know how ext3 works -- Is the whole journalling and restoring is automatic or if you need tools to restore?
