Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Add to Playlist - nicely

2010-10-29 Thread toby10

Yeah, that can be annoying. Not only does such an inadvertent screen
tap stop the current playback it also wipes out the playlist you were
building.
A suggestion of adding a user selectable safety feature was brought
up but it was never implemented that I know of.
i.e. After setting this Safety feature to YES, nothing could be played
nor wipe out a current playlist without a Context Menu screen popping up
confirming you want to play the selected track.

My only suggestions are:
- use the full SBS web UI to create Playlists
- if using the Touch server, save the Playlist after each addition of
a song/album/stream/etc...

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Play has stopped working with The New Music menu option

2010-10-29 Thread Mick Trusler

Hi,

Now working, thanks.

Rather than do everything you suggested at the same time, I started
with the FULL RESCAN of the music library. I wanted to do it bit by bit
in case I get the same problem again.

The rescan has fixed the problem.

Again, thanks for your help.

[SlimDevices: Touch] PC control of the Tiuch

2010-10-29 Thread alan sh

Am I correct here?

I can control my Touch from my PC by going to Remote in Mysqueezebox
but I can only control radio stations and not my locally stored music
on another PC (which my Touch sees via the squeezebox server).

So, is there a way I can remote control the Touch and actually see what
it is playing?

thanks

Alan

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] PC control of the Tiuch

2010-10-29 Thread aubuti

There are various ways you can control the Touch via your pc. The
easiest is to open any web browser and point it to
http://SBS_ip:9000/ , where you substitute the real IP address of
your computer running Squeezebox Server in place of SBS_ip. There are
also 3rd party applications, such as Moose. Or you could use Squeezeplay
on the pc, and set it up to control the Touch.

I use iPeng remote application on both my iPhone and iPad. It has a
setting with three possibilities:

1. Play now
2. Play next
3. Add to the end or playlist

Looks like you'd like the third option.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch and Duet remote out of synch?

2010-10-29 Thread magiccarpetride

This is what's been happening to me on an almost regular basis: I use
the Duet remote to control my Touch. Every now and then, when I press
pause on the remote, and then later on I press the play button on the
remote again, the remote is showing the 'Now Playing' details, while
the Touch screen remains in idle. Pressing pause and then right after
that pressing play on the remote rectifies this, but I'm wondering why
is this glitch happening so often?

Looks like you'd like the third option.

Meaning you can customize what a quick button tap of that item does?
i.e. I can set a quick tap of the listed item to either play or add to
playlist?

These three choices are all available via the Touch. If you press
hold the item those same menu selections you describe for iPeng pop up
on the Touch's screen.
The issue is that sometimes you intend to press hold but
inadvertently end up not holding so then the item just starts to play
(and thus, inadvertently erases any playlist you were building).

Just a display issue; the music continues playing without any hiccups.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Add to Playlist - nicely

2010-10-29 Thread R Johnson

I had the Touch for months now, and I still have trouble with adding
Albums or individual tracks.

I'll have to read the Feature Guide. Hmmm... It seems you CAN'T add a
single track. From page 10: Note: When you select a song that is part
of the album, the entire album becomes part of your Current Playlist.

A curious approach. I'd have thought that selecting individual
tracks/songs to add to a playlist would be highly desirable.

Are you sure you are doing a touch and hold over the track? Then you
see Add to End?
I have no trouble adding entire albums to a playlist or individual
tracks from an album to a playlist on the Touch.

Its USB that most perks my curiosity these days. It was curious that in
the Stereophile Touch review, the reviewer found that PC via ethernet to
Touch to Ayre via tweaked USB output as the best Mo Fo sound he has
heard bla, bla, bla, etc. etc. IMHO, I give credit to the Touch for
that assessment vs. the USB protocol in the Ayre.

From my initial review reads - USB has some growing to do. SPDIF has
its own problems which are well documented. So, anything I find on USB,
in particular the real contenders - unsync protocols - I'm right there.
USB - right now - seems like the audiophile lazy mans way out in some
ways. I may be missing the point. Im still not happy with the idea of
running a USB cable to a DAC.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Finally found the cause of multiple music stoppage problems

2010-10-29 Thread rgro

So, I've experienced several of the issues that other folks have posted
about here and in other SB forums. I've had music stop playing (though
it still looks like it should be playing, but wouldn't restart), having
to switch to mysb.com and back to get things restarted and a few other
annoying but related glitches. I may have a solution---maybe not the
only solution, but one that's certainly solved my problem! In short,
it's NOT been a Touch/Logitech problem, it's been a Win 7 problem.

Even though I'm running my computer that runs SBS 24/7 and have set the
Power Management option on it to never sleep, my sense was that
something was still causing the NIC card to sleep anyway, thus
terminating the connection from SBS to the Touch, causing the seemingly
random stops in the music, etc. Once the music stopped, it appeared
that switching to msyb.com and back to My Music (SBS server) sent a
WOL command which then woke the NIC card up.

I had played endlessly with the Power Management options for the NIC
card which are accessed in Win 7 through the Device Manager. None of
the combinations seemed to work to keep it awake---even though I had
the allow the computer to turn [the Nic] off to save power
UNCHECKED!

So after poring through a bunch of other tech and Microsoft forums the
past few days, stumbled on something which seems to have finally done
the trick. Under the Advanced tab in the Device Manager for the NIC
(which is an Intel 82567V-2 Gigabit), there is an option called the
System Idle Power Saver which was enabled. I changed it to disabled
and that has finally prevented the NIC card from going to sleep and,
thus, kept SBS and the Touch happily connected. Now, maybe this is
completely obvious to everybody else but I'm not a technical wizard at
all and it seems, shall we say, a bit obscure.

Why, Microsoftwhen you choose the the never sleep option in the
computer's Power Mangement, it still allows the NIC to sleep, is
baffling; why, when you UNcheck the allow the computer to turn off
device does the NIC still turn off; and why the option to really,
really disable the NIC's sleep state is in the Advanced tab instead
of in the Power Mangement tab in the NIC device manager is all just
plain lame, Microsoft (I've self-censored, here)!

I feel like I just trapped the annoying mouse in the attic that's been
running around for months in the middle of the night and waking me up.
Plus--and even better---I won't have to do any more wife
hand-holding/explaining when the music inexplicably stopsalways,
coincidentally, about 20 min or so after I've stopped using the
computer. ;)

Off to play around with my Revue, now, heheheh.
