[SlimDevices: Touch] USB Problems
I have owned my Squeezebox Touch for less than a week and cannot begin to describe my frustration and disappointment with the product. I have had nothing but problems with it since day one. I am running it attached to a Buffalo Ministation 500GB USB-powered HDD. When first attaching it to the Touch, it took about 2 hours to locate and index all of my 22,000-odd tracks, around 80GB worth of music. The first issue I had was that the unit was splitting single albums into multiple albums, which although annoying and time-consuming to solve, was easy enough to fix using MP3Tag. Although it resulted in another 2 hours of downtime while it re-scanned the USB to index the files all over again. Things were working well enough though, I had listened to a few albums and was enjoying the unit, I found the responsiveness great, and the integration with the official SB Android app on my Desire HD worked flawlessly... then this morning, when attaching the USB drive (I disconnect when not using to save wear on the disk), it took around 5 minutes to start SBS, played one file, after spending about 10 minutes loading the album, and then lost connection to the USB. Local music service has encountered a problem or words to that effect, was the error message. No indication of what the problem was, so I'm trying to fix it blindfolded. It has lost connection on a number of occasions throughout the week - why does this happen when it is connected to a local USB drive?! This has now occurred four or five times today, trying to play the same album. The next MAJOR issue is that the server has just reset itself and begins discovering files... why has it lost all of the indexed files?! I am now facing another 2 hours of downtime while I wait for the unit to rediscover all of the music, before I can begin thinking about how to fix it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can go about making the device work as intended? If I have left out any pertinent info I am happy to provide. Other problems I have had... minor issues... which I wouldn't mind some guidance with... 1. Is there any way to group albums by Album Artist rather than Artist? For example, I would like albums by Method Man Redman to be grouped under the album artist Method Man rather than as two separate artists. 2. The Android app doesn't seem to be reading from the internal SBS - I have added a few new albums which show up on the touch device, but not on the mobile app - any ideas? Although to be honest, I'd happily take suggestions for an alternative app. Sorry for the essay and thanks in advance. -- morocco1 morocco1's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46868 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87857 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] Empty Music Directories
Apologies - long post. OK, this is now driving me mad. I've bought a Freecom 1TB drive with its own power, which is very nice. I copied all my music files to it then attached it directly to the Touch, added it as a USB device and everything in the garden was rosy. Then I got down to adding the rest of my CD collection, ripping about 20 albums. I ejected the drive from the Touch, re-attached it to my computer and added the new files. Then I put the drive back on the Touch and watched it rescan. Result - no new music. All the album info and artwork is there but no tunes. It just shows as Empty. I ejected the drive, reattached it to my PC, rescanned and sure enough, there's all the music correctly displayed. I attached from the Touch and I could see and play all the music. I thought maybe the rescan hadn't worked properly on the drive when I had it on the Touch so I deleted the db files in the Squeezebox cache directory on the drive, moved it back to the Touch and tried again. Same result. All the new stuff not showing. Back to the PC, add the drive and sure enough, all the files are there and will play on the Touch. Coincidentally, I added an album I'd downloaded from the internet (all Flac files) and this album shows up on the Touch. So please can someone tell me what's going on? The reason for the external drive is so I don't have to have the PC on but at the moment that's the only way I can get it to work. -- Gillinger Gillinger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46364 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87858 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Empty Music Directories
Sorry, I don't have an answer for your main problem of the Touch's built-in server (TinySBS) not finding your new files. It should work, and none of the info in your post gives me any hints as to why it isn't for you. But I did want to mention that you don't need to remove the USB drive to add new files. The Touch also runs a Samba server for network file sharing. If you enable sharing on the Touch then you can copy your new rips/downloads from your pc over the network to the USB while it is still attached to the Touch. A lot of people prefer this to the Touch's automatic rescan every time you re-attach the USB drive to it. Good luck sorting out the main problem. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87858 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] USB Problems
It is POSSIBLE the USB on the Touch does not have quiet enough power for your HD causing weird stuff to happen. It is always best to get an external HD which has its own power supply... -- bitstopjoe Joe Sica bitstopjoe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45024 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87857 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Yes, you probably have the problem described in some way here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86665 Try browsing using artist or album instead of music folder. -- avr300 /avr300 avr300's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21177 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87858 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] USB Problems
Hi Joe Thanks for your response. I have a powered USB drive, which contains the same files as the USB-powered one, it was just for physical space reasons that I was not using that... maybe I will try the powered drive with the touch later and see if this makes a difference. There is one possible problem I can foresee with this though, the powered drive is formatted in NTFS - can the Squeezebox Touch read this format? -- morocco1 morocco1's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46868 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87857 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Empty Music Directories
I already browse by artist or album, never by folder. Oddly enough, I've just browsed by folder and found the music and can play it, although the Now Playing button doesn't show anything. Also, my software is up-to-date but I'll post on the other thread as well. -- Gillinger Gillinger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46364 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87858 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] How to modify the caps at analog out?
Thanks for the feedback. Right now my Touch is connected to a relatively cheap integrated amp (NAD C315BEE), but I mostly use it with a Grado RA-1 headphone amp: [image: http://www.audiostereo.pl/uploads/old/post-8831-11279%201257443362.png] Looks like my cans should be safe. In the unlikely event that I'll ever need caps in the signal pathway, I guess I'll mod the RCA cable instead of trying to do anything with the Touch itself. -- Soulkeeper -that is not dead which can eternal lie. and with strange aeons even death may die.- touch + duet + boom + radio / wrt160n/dd-wrt / sbs 7.5.1 or higher/win7(32b)/avira free Soulkeeper's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35297 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83412 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Empty Music Directories
Successfully browsing by folder but not by artists/albums/genres indicates that your scan did not complete correctly. Check your scanner.log for clues as to where things went wrong. Also, unless you are running 7.6.0 beta I think the thread that avr300 linked is unlikely to be the cause, as that thread is specifically about 7.6.0, which has a completely different scanner. Unless you're running the beta, there's no real point to posting in that thread. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87858 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] newbe advice please
The Squeezebox Server (SBS) software in the Touch is building a database from the metadata in the tags of your music files (artists, album names, track names, track numbers, etc). This takes a while the first time, but you don't have to go through it every time because it saves the database on your USB drive. If you turn off or disconnect your USB drive then the server will rescan the drive, but only to check for new or changed files -- it won't do a complete clear-and-rescan unless you ask it to. Most modern drives have a powersaving spin-down mode that the drive uses when it has been inactive for a while. If I connected a USB drive directly to the Touch I would probably use spin-down mode, and leave the drive on but sleeping when not in use. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87649 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] Issues with radiotime
Have owned a SBT for well over a year with some problems here and there, nothing serious. I started noticing last night that all of my stations will not stream and I get a Radiotime timeout message on the screen. I can get some local stations and some of the staff picks but for the most part no stations. I seem to recall someone mentioning that radiotime was doing some work on their streaming? Or is the problem on my end. You are correct, leave the HDD attached and leave the Touch on. If you eject the drive it will go through the scanning process again when it's reattached. -- dasmueller dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87649 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Issues with radiotime
Similar problem as of yesterday. Came home after a week away and the only stations I can get to play are the Staff Picks. All others show Connect timeout: when I try to play them. This includes my presets, and any attempt to Search stations. I reset to the factory settings, downloaded the latest firmware, nothing helps. I have no connectivity problems - diagnostics shows me connected to my hub using a valid IP, and all my other internet devices at home work fine. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Empty Music Directories
The only scanner.log file I can find is the one on my PC, where it works perfectly. There isn't one stored on the external HD. I've selected Enable sharing on the Touch but can you enlighten me on how I access that from my PC? I've tried attaching by FTP and http but there's no response.
