Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Sudden loss of Vol
bikerboy wrote: Hi the vol is fixed at 100% Well I can only think something has gone wrong with the digital volume control because you are getting the same faint sound from both the analogue and digital outputs, which precludes something being wrong with the analogue pre-amp circuitry. It also precludes some disaster in the digital circuits as you would not be getting any music at all, faint or otherwise! IIRC the volume control is a software / firmware implementation so I cannot think of a way of correcting it short of reinstalling the firmware and doing a factory reset. In fact if you have not reset to factory defaults yet that would be my first step anyway. I am not sure if there is a way to force a re-installation of the firmware on the Touch. On the Controller this can be done via the firmware loaded onto an SD card. Maybe somebody else can advise. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Wall mount?
Mnyb wrote: Was it not 100$ and we all had a laugh ? Well looking at the forum post it is just a bit of injection moulded plastic! The big cost is tooling up (creating the mould). There are a few injection moulding estimators on the web. Using a US based company, and taking a pessimistic view that the part is deemed to be complex requiring a very high precision and high gloss polish then it would cost about $52,000 to tool up. So it really does depend on how many you think you could sell. A short run of 1,000 would cost around $57 each but a run of 10,000 only about $10 each. I have no idea about demand, but I think at most you would sell low single figures of thousands worldwide. My guess is that a stock of around 5,000 would probably be all Logitech needed which comes out at around $15 a pop. Now adding in a 50% markup for profit and to cover the risk you don't sell as many as you thought (meaning you would break even if you sold 3,500) that gives a wholesale price of $22.50. Add the usual distribution and retailers markup of around 100% you get to just under $50 a pop - less if you sold direct through the Logitech on-line channels. However, if they have sold, say 100,000 Touches (not sure, just a pure guess) they could have put one in the box at an extra $5 cost. Personally I think that would have been their best policy. As an after-market extra it would have been a risky call. The Touch is not part of an integrated multi-room system with wall mounted controllers, speakers, amps etc, so it would only really be popular with the DIY fraternity rather than professional installers who make up the bulk of buyers of this kind of part. So it really would have been a case of package it as a standard part or not bother. Clearly Logitech took the less brave decision! [SlimDevices: Touch] New to Touch
Hi all, first visit and new to Touch. I would like to know what I should be doing here. I have just received my Touch used, and when I connect it to my cable network, it picked it up without a hick-up, that was good, but it wants to update the Software to version: 7.7.2 r9663. I did a Factory Reset and it will not let me go into the Setup Menu, goes straight to Update Software. Is it save to let it do it without being connected to a PC. Any known problems with that update anyone experienced specific problems. Trying to find out as much as I can. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Wall mount?
Well, you also have to see that there is very limited use for this thing. I am one of those who got a beta unit and I use it in my bathroom (there's a picture of the setup somewhere in the Touch photo thread) but the reason I could do that was that I completely re-built the bathroom when I installed it. Retrofitting is VERY hard. You need to get all kind of cables to the place, you need to be able to get the power supply hidden within the wall and you need a massive hole for all the connectors. And even then, the Touch will protrude around an inch from the wall. It may be easier in US houses with wooden walls or with a drywall, but if you've got a traditional brick or concrete wall, this thing is hard to install. So effectively used volume will probably stay low. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95571 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

You can also update Touch's firmware via SD card and a firmware bin file. But you can also force an update to re-update to it's current version. It will tell you that this firmware is already installed and ask if you wish to reinstall it anyway. [SlimDevices: Touch] Accessing Touch over WiFi
Hi On my old W7 laptop I used to be able to type 192.168.1.133 into the toolbar on Explorer and see the contents of the drive plugged into the Touch and use this for adding more music albeit slowly over WiFi. On my new laptop it switches to Firefox and tries to open a Web server which I know the Touch doesn't have and FF complains as such. Anyone any ideas on how to sort this. Nothing has changed on the Touch settings between my old and new laptop. TIA. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Upgrading the clocks in the SBT - is it necessary
A good upgrade to the Touch can be a decent DAC. The clock inside the Touch is not that bad. John Westlake (designer of the previous DacMagic DACs , the Audiolab M-DAC and other award winning gear) has tested the SBT and found that the clock is getting re-clocked inside the Touch. That is pretty amazing for a streamer at this price point. Re-clocking is something youd expect on high-end gear. So, dont worry about the Touch clock. In my main listening setup Im using the SBT with the M-DAC. The SBT is connected with optical SPDIF to the M-DAC. Works perfect and the sound quality is excellent. Thanks Pascal - good to know. However with the MDAC you have the opportunity to try the EDO applet - you can alway try, then revert back to how it was if necessary. Who knows, the sound quality might go from 'excellent' to 'sublime'. stop-spinning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95573 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Upgrading the clocks in the SBT - is it necessary
stop-spinning wrote: I ask this because some are saying that putting a re-clocker (such as the so called excellent ones from Empirical Audio) make a huge improvement to the SQ of the Touch. This, to me, means that the clocks in the SBT are not of hi-end quality so an intermediary device such a high quality re-clocker needs to be installed to elevate the music performance for an audiophile when connected to an outboard DAC. If this is the case, is it not cheaper to just get the clocks upgraded inside the SBT (if necessary), because that Empirical Audio stuff is expensive (but might be worth it I guess). Other than that does Async USB mean you conveniently totally bypass the internal clocks altogether so don't need a helping hand in-between from Empirical and the likes (if you have a good async USB DAC like the MDAC?). Thanks everyone. to provide a bit of balance to those who are happy with the sound of the unmodded touch quality wise it seems to be EA overdrive EA offramp EDO mods + reclocker - I use mf vlink 192, some have reported great things using the berkely usb/spdif EDO mods + async usb dac I have clock upgrade in my touch, not sure if the EDO mods have killed off the benefit of that upgrade though. JohnSwenson has measured the touch clocks and thought that the clock upgrade was worthwhile very few dacs have the async usb designed for SQ rather than a convenient way of getting a signal into the dac which is why reclockers work, even the new nad M51 dac benefits from an external usb/spdif over the usb input. depends on your setup and requirements, for playback into a high resolving system you may notice a difference it is a fast moving area, but not too expensive to try out different things.
